  1. I was thinking that, for this generation of Sox fans, we grew up with a s***ty UHF signal, and in the Cub's shadow. We probably started off with a chip on our shoulder.
  2. Two ideals are in conflict with me. 1. Discrimination is wrong. 2. Being forced to rent your property to anyone, seems wrong as well. For example, let's say a property owner decided as a concept to create a building that catered to Japanese businessmen who are sent to the US on two year assignments. (many maquilla employees are like this) He decorates the building in a manner that would be comfortable for Japanese with signs in that language, etc., and now wants to have mostly or all Japanese tenents. He believes this will result in a higher occupancy rate and greater profit margins. He believes that these businessmen will be more willing to rent his place and he can charge more if it is a "little" Japan. That doesn't seem wrong to me until someone is denied housing. Then I'd be outraged at the discrimination.
  3. Are Sox fans more likely to see the glass as half empty? Reading fan sites for teams behind us and seeing how some feel better about the Sox than Sox fans, has me wondering. Let's use this to talk about fans, not the team.

  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 07:22 AM) How so? Against quality teams, can we really expect 3 good starts by our starters? Yes. It's playoff time.
  9. Amazingly, this team is still one of the top 5 or 6 in all of baseball and would be a favorite in the first round of the playoffs. Since I missed all of June and July I can keep a more positive outlook. I also wasn't jumping off the cliff last year. Get the problems out now and let September roll.
  10. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) WOW, Prodigy...... Think you got a few years on me TEX GEnie was even earlier. All menu based, no GUI. Real time chats. Now dialing into BBSs that was a thril. The sounds of modems making love
  11. 90s? LOL I had an AOL account when they had less than 100,000 subscribers. I also had a GEnie account, Prodigy, Earthlink before they sucked, and before that it was dial in with your modem to the Well, ExecPC in Wisconsin, and a host of others. I kept an AOL when that was the only way to connect at hotels. Every town had a local POP, which kept long distance charges down. AOL was a pioneer and out marketed everyone.

    I wish I shared your optimism. I believe that nuclear bombs will be dropped within the next 10 - 15 years. As they become easier to produce, a nut job will get one and in a fit of suicide, it will be detonated.
  13. As bad as it looks today, I still like the chances for a playoff spot. Added bonus, the team will be playing their best ball of the season in September. Nope, not drinking.

    Something light hearted to take our minds off the Sox
  15. I finally got to see a game on the big screen.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) Tex, you ever watch that 70's show? Remind me of how many ways I can put my foot up your ass... LOL I may have to move to the Houston suburbs
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I don't know if that's good or bad. Could DeLay be back in Congress? Ugh. Parish the thought. He should be in the White House.
  18. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Amen
  19. Fact of the matter is, sadly, millions if morons are thinking "he's right you know. He just shouldn't have said it out loud . . ."
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) I dont think those who disagree with Isreal's methods are anti-semitic. I just think they're wrong. It's worked well so far . . . QUOTE(minors @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) They will never understand Nuke. Iran and Syria are threats and people who don't see that are ignorant. It's not that people don't see them as threats, it's the best path to avoid sensless killings and forge some peaceful solution that reasonable, intelligent, people disagree with.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) Hopefully the little guy is OK ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ times two

  23. August 7, 2006 NOTE FROM LARRY: Chicago Bulls' mascot Benny the Bull ran afoul of the law recently, getting arrested (in costume) for attempting to punch a police officer. Benny had apparently been tooling around on a motorcycle in an area set aside for the "Taste of Chicago" food festival. The Top 9 Things That Drove Benny the Bull Berserk 9> All shook up after reading "Slaughterhouse Five." 8> Constantly being set up on blind dates with the Minnesota Vikings mascot. 7> Elsie the Cow still won't give it up! 6> New item at the concession stand: Rocky Mountain Oysters. 5> Whenever the Dow falls, the Chicago Bears mascot always gets in his face. 4> "Tyson Chandler: You're seven freakin' feet tall. POST UP, ALREADY!!!" 3> His lady friend swore off red meat, if you know what I'm saying. 2> Cheerleaders never deliver after promising him a "beef jerky." and the Number 1 Thing That Drove Benny the Bull Berserk... 1> *WAY* too much Red Bull.
