  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) It so stupid to call pot a gateway drug. What % of people have used alcohol and/or tobacco before using any kind of drug? How come those are never called "gateway" drugs? Oh right, because we collect taxes on them and they are legal. It's also important to mention how much money will be lost by the big time drug dealers if their product became more easily attainable. I agree that you can link many items from mother's milk to McDonalds cheesburgers as precedents to hard core drug use. I believe part of the gateway is the procurement process. You can not buy heroin from the local tobacco shop. The liquor store probably isn't selling crack. By legalizing pot, and bringing it into the liquor stores and bars, it takes it out of the drug dealers. Hence my statement. Pot is usually the first illegal drug used.
  2. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) If that were the case, why do they never defend gun owners who feel their civil rights are violated? Because they have an agenda. That is why they interpret the second amendment with a much 'softer' stance than they do all the rest. If the applied the same standards to gun rights as they do to the supposed 'sepration of church and state', they would be advocating mandatory gun ownership for all. Also, I believe it was brought up earllier that the ACLU has to be asked first, otherwise they can file amicus curiae briefs (I think that's what they are called) in support of positions it favors, but was not asked to help. Part of their "agenda" is giving a voice to those that don't have one. We have a very powerful gun lobby in this country. When the lowest are protected, we are all protected. I can't stand those idiots, but if they are allowed their free speech rights, I sleep better at night knowing you and I can debate and not worry about who is in power and the secret thought police knocking down our doors. Heads, add me to that list.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) ......living with another man. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14082091/ Article didn't say whether they were in a homosexual relationship but its not a really big stretch to say they were. At any rate, this was a massive fraud perpetrated by this guy and he needs to get locked up for a good long time for this one. Amen to that.
  4. High Point group in camp from Missouri, the week after we trounced them Low Point, frickin Yankme fan, also the week after. Of course lots of Astros fans. Weird without tv, internet, etc. I could have worked at a connection and papers, etc. But an uncomplicated summer was nice.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) 'walk on the wild side' by Lou Reed is pretty easy. I like that idea also. In a nutshell, my chances are Dream: Tom Cruise like performance from Top Gun Reality: Rosanne Barr singing the National Anthem I was also thinking Ghost riders in the Sky
  6. I have never smoked the stuff so maybe my views are out of step and naive, but it seems to me that most of the problems would be solved by legalizing marijuana. It would stop being a "gateway" and the quality should increase, avoiding the poisons that reportedly have been introduced. We could lower enforcement costs and increase taxes. I don't see a downside besides the usual ones that are also shared by alcohol and cigarettes.
  7. Shouldn't this be in filibuster with things like NASCAR??
  8. 2005 >> Indians chasing Sox 2006 >> Sox chasing Tigers Two thoughts, one, tThankfully we are in the race. Two, we know how to close a tight pennant race. I'd rather be Detroit today, but I still like te chances.
  9. ^^^^^^ great point
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) You know as well as I do that the reason why we have so many different taxes, deductions, and so forth has nothing to do with making it easier to raise taxes. We have so many because each lobbyist with a ton of cash comes up with some exemption that will benefit his particular employer, and therefore it gets written into the tax code. Exemptions only exist if there is a tax. So someone has an idea for a new tax, lobbyists figure out how to keep those with access from paying it, and a new tax is introduced. I believe we are both correct. My point is it is easier to pass 100 $5 taxes than one $500 tax.
  11. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) Would you really want your daughter to have the female equivilant to this? Would you rather she wanted this one
  12. Ditto on the packing a bitter pill in a piece of candy. I think it is wrong whenever it's used. We have moved waaay too far from why we even pay taxes. First off we allow the government to collect money to pay for running this country. Not to stimulate the economy or anything like that. It's to pay for the services and benefits that the citizens receive. How we collect those taxes shouldn't be so complex. Why have 1,000s of taxes? So they can pass increases easier. We need a simpler tax system and more accountability from those that are intrusted to spend that money. No more pretending there are free lunches. Balance the damn budget and if you can't, raise taxes or lower spending. I want a statement at the end of the year that details every tax I paid, fuel taxes, income tax, sin taxes, property taxes, gains taxes, government user fees, etc. etc.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Where have you been for the last, I dunno, forever? Prison My job with Boy Scouts had me stationed on South Padre Island leading a program in SCUBA, sailing, fishing, snorkling, etc. for the past two months.
  14. What we seem to want to do is become a third world country and give so much power to the government. I am amazed how people want to allow the government total access to their lives. They trust the legal system totally. (Thank God they got the OJ verdict right). Somehow it has become the more conservative people who demand more government intervention. More government powers. About opposite of the small government, less laws, less government interference, ideals of my father's brand of conservatism. There is a balance in handling prisoners and it varies by the crime and the prisoner. A times, prisoners have had it too easy, now a pendulum is swinging too far the other side. In the grand scheme of things, no big deal. It will always come back to center.
  15. It seemed like homers are flying, I received the updates on every homer run and late lead changes. Cy Garland is showing that last year wasn't a fluke, and wtf Mark? Jenks seems to be struggling also.

I have zero musical ability, can't carry a tune with a handle. I am going to have to sing one karoake song soon and am trying to pick something that is short, and easy to sing. Of course it should also be very popular so I can be assured it will be on their list. I am thinking of making this a comedy thing and singing a parody version of something.
  17. That's why Jas keeps saying shampoo doesn't taste good . . .
  18. My two months at the beach are over and time to get back into the swing of things. About all I received was game updates on my cell. Could someone give me a two month summary? I do like seeing Alomar back. Knowing Kenny's history, I delayed my reaction until I found out which one
  19. Both parties agreed in 2000 to having the courts draw the map because they were deadlocked. Then when a shift in power made a grab possible one party changed their minds. And my man the Hammer led the way The new districts are so wrong. My congressman has a district 20 miles wide and 200 miles long.
  20. Hasn't the administration bragged how they were tracking terrorists via their money? Look at their web site
  21. Rush busted? Maybe, like Tom Sawyer, he was trying to stay in the Limelight until 2112, of his own Freewill, he's a Working Man, not some Fly by Night, and needs to keep this Closer to the Heart. Maybe for The Big Money he'll become a New World Man and listen to the Distant Early Warning because that is the Spirit of the Radio.

Once again, hard at work. No phone, no tv, no newspapers, no internet (until today). Hope all is well with everyone. I am going to wade through the 1450 emails waiting and maybe stop back for a few minutes. I do miss everyone here. Imagine getting homesick for a message board.
