QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 18, 2006 -> 05:51 AM) Good catch. Checking the only poker book I have here that lists odds, and it's a 40 year old book, doesn't exactly match. I was beginning to think I was wrong.

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 18, 2006 -> 02:52 AM) But the discussion rarely does. But it has. Southsider, for example, proposed tying these jobs to humanitarian efforts, which is a pretty awesome goal. That seemed to be a big change. I finally linked jobs to immigraton in a way that actually made sense to y'all, I guess I was confusing people prior to that. There are still some areas that we will never agree on. I am surprised at some of the compromises that our leaders have come up with. I think a fence that covers exactly 25% of the area makes no sense at all. Sounds like a classic government f*** up. We fenced in one side of the prison, that should keep everyone in but compromise is happening, and that is good. I've always had faith in America solcing big problems and this is the process in which we accomplish that. It is done in the sunshine for everyone to see. Not tying jbs to immigration leaves a clear path to the problems we are trying to avoid. Allow 300,000 people to immigrate in 2008 and there are jobs for 500,000, and we exncourage illegal immigration, again. Have jobs for 200,000 and we encourage people to wind up on assistance, bankrupting states. The ability the support yourself should be the cornerstone of any immigration bill. Sadly, they are arguing about how to fence in people by building 1/4 a fence. Boondoggle.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 17, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) I assume the rules are draw poker and he's playing against himself? (up to 3 new cards) First one: Holds onto A,K,Q= 4/47 *4/46 (4 J's, and 4 10's left in the deck) Holds onto A, 3, 4=4/47 *4/46 (4 2's, and 4 5's left in the deck) 2nd one: Holds onto two 5's. (3/47*2/46*1/45)*10 (3 of Aces, 2, 3, 4, 9. 10, J, Q, K,) + 2/47 (two 5's left in the deck) Holds onto 6 and 7 = (3/47*2/46)*2 (catching 2 7's or 2 6's)+ (3/47*2/46*1/45)*10 (3 of Aces, 2, 3, 4, 9. 10, J, Q, K,) Same odds for holding only 7 and 8, or 6 and 8. Holds onto two 5's and one of the other cards: 2/47 (5 on the first new card draw) + 2/46 (5 on the second new card draw if the first card was not a 5) Holds on to two 5's (avoid full house): 2/47 (5 on the first new card draw) + 2/46 (5 on the second new card draw if the first card was not a 5) +2/45 (5 on the third card if niether the first or second card is a 5) [Texsox did this one] For the first one my TI-89 tells me it's .74% Second hand first method is 4.31% Second hand second mehtod is .62% Second hand third method is 8.60% Second hand fourth method is 13% Santo, on the straight, you don't have to catch it in order, so the first card drawn could be a J or a 10 so you are looking at 8/47 and the next card has to be the other or 4/46. Doesn't that make sense?

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) So if I came over to your house, robbed it, hung out in your kitchen until you got home, then told you to make me a sandwich, you'd be cool with it? How is it fair that you have more than I do. Its not logical for some people to have $50 billion, while I try to figure out how to buy formula for my baby right? It would totally be feasible for me just to take from someone else, because it is right there, and I really need it. It is also much cheaper for you just give it to me, than for me to drive over to your house and rob you, so really I should just send you my paypal account and you can send the money directly to me. Sound good? So if you were starving and desperate and came to my house and asked me to let you work to buy some food for your family, you wouldd be ok if I told you to get your ass back where you came from? The answer lies somewhere between these examples.

GOP Backing Away From Tough Immigration
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) If this is about creating good will, wouldn't some war or famine victims play much better on the 6 o'clock news than some poor Mexicans and Canadians? We could create good will all over the world, and simultainious embark on the largest humanitarian mission in human history. We could create emerging markets all over the world for our products, and change opinions of us everywhere. Who said anything about goodwill? Where would you rather live? Next door to Stickney or next door to Lake Forest? I'm suggesting that having a robust, healthy neighbor is better than a desperate one. As you have mentioned, take away the incentive and illegal immigration becomes less of a problem. As Mexico developes and becomes healthier, the incentive to leave is lessened.

Bush to order National Guard to border
Well sir, we will disagree on whether or not we can pay someone enough to be a busboy who has been through our education system. We will disagree on spending the money and effort to hire and relocate minimum skill labor from Africa. Businesses don't pay to relocate minimum wage labor from Chicago to Colorado, I don't see them paying to relocate someone from Africa. Unless you are advocating a US taxpayer paid humanitarian air lift. Yes, it's the easiest way, but I don't think American business should be in the business of righting social injustices half way around the globe through their hiring. I don't think it is even the cost of deporting people that bothers me as much as the cost in rehiring people. I think America would be better off just allowing those people who have demonstrated they can support themselves here and not commit any crimes to stay before taking a chance on millions of new immigrants. Paying someone minimum wage is exploiting them? And yes we pick and chose every day. We let speeders zip by if they are only speeding a little bit. We allow drunks in some businesses, but not others. We scare a little kid for shoplifting and send them home, we give a pass to a drug user for ratting out a dealer. We allow time off for good behavior, we make allowances for a defendants criminal record, we give first time offenders a break and enforce a three strikes law. We make decisions on what is in the best interest of America all the time. This is no different.

Three of a kind problem. How exact do you want to be? 2 fives remaining / 47 cards. Odds of first draw being a five is 2:47 Second draw (if first not a five) is 2:46 Third Draw (if first two not a five) is 2:45 The more you draw and don't get a five, the more the odds are you will get a five on the next one, until you reach 2:2 and you will have to get a five. So on to the problem. Your chances of pulling trips is about 1 in 9.

There are 8 cards out of 47 that will work for his 4th card (J or 10) and 4 cards out of 46 that would then work for his 5th card. (whichever is missing) First card 1:5.875 Second card odds 1:11.5 Total to fill 1:17 edit: after figuring this, I checked in Advanced Concepts of Poker by Frank Wallance and he shows 1:24 (3 straight double open).

Wow....WhiteSox.com poll results on Cubs series
I like a balanced schedule and interleague takes away from that. The Mets know every year they will have a battle with the Yankees, the Cubs know they will face a top team in the Sox. Houston will have an easier time with Kap's backyard team, the Rangers. I liked the theoretical debates with cluelessCub fans. Actually beating them isn't as much fun.

Springer nails Bonds, Fans appluad
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 17, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) He's a juicer, a mean person, and a racist. The only reason he wants 715 is b/c Ruth is white, and he doesn't like white people. I bet that if Aaron was at 714 and Ruth was at 755, you'd see Bonds saying he wants to play in 2007 and go after Ruth Wow. I dislike Baroid as much as the next person, but do you really think he stayed in the game just to beat a white guy? :headshake

Bush to order National Guard to border
^^^^^^ Quick summary. I am in favor of allowing those immigrants who have jobs or can show financial support to immigrate. No financial support, no immigration. I do not believe that there are that many illegals getting paid less than minimum wage. I believe more were working with false papers and receiving minimum wage. It's also safer for the employer. I am also in favor of tying immigration numbers to some job number, not some arbitrary guess that we have to live with in 5 years that may under or over fill the workforce. I don't believe you are in favor of rounding up and deporting them, and you don't want to have them benefit from their crime, so what is your solution with the existing illegals? I favor a program for those illegals who have demonstrated good behavior to earn citizenship. They must not have committed a crime, have a good work history, etc.

How much do errors count?
Errors are an inexact science. Giving any team 4 outs in an inning is going to hurt. It also rattles some pitchers, causes some players to press at the plate, etc. What is probably another great conversation is how stout the Sox are at making other teams pay for their mistakes.

Daley: Chicago Would Be 'Ideal Site' For Olympics
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) How would being in Vegas have concerns over gambling?? You don't have to be in Vegas in-person to gamble. Access to the players and the players having access to gambling. IIRC you still can't wager on UNLV games. Dallas metroplex is bigger than SA. You have to toss Fort Worth into the discussion.

Brillance from Mariotti
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 15, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) I care what happens to them. Laughing at their misery is almost as much fun as watching our Sox inflict misery and force feed s*** to other teams. Exactly. Except I care more about them losing when the Sox are losing. The "yeah we suck, but your guys suck even worse" moments are sometimes all we had. Now it's a nice sideline while the Sox are winning. Also very close to the years when the Packers and Bears would both win 5 or 6 games. As long as they won the series fans acted like they did something that year.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) It's pure comedy as far as I'm concerned. I'd pay top dollar for a highlight reel of Bonds getting plunked. Scumbags should be made to suffer, and Russ Springer is now a personal hero of mine. Come on fathom, you know that you were laughing out loud when you saw the pitch sequence.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ May 17, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2...0813.shtml?s=lh Where's the compassion??? Maybe the ACLU will take their case. Of course felons should be shipped back, and fast. I would even reduce the 3 misdemeanors to 2 or 1. I agree 100% with this quote Seems so simple. As soon as we get further and further away from this thought, we get in trouble.

GOP Backing Away From Tough Immigration
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) And that's my point. It shouldn't be that way. If we are going to open up the US job market to foreign labor, why shouldn't the entire world be on equal footing, and not just one race who happend to hit the geography lotto? I honestly believe it is racist to open the US labor market to primarily one race. Then again our entire immigration system is racist as it considers certian countries immigrants by their country of orgin, instead of simply by something like their plight, or their skills. We should take care of our neighbors because it adds to our national securty. Having an ally next door is advantagous to having an enemy. Healthy Canada and Mexico helps out economy by creating easy to get to markets for our goods and services.

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Actually you couldn't be more backwards on what I have said. A guest worker program is an excellent ideal to strive for. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) You're right, what was I thinking. We should just annex Mexico and get it over with, right? I mean they obviously need our tax money more than we do, not to mention we need busboys and fruitpickers as you have pointed out, and no American should have to do that when we have Mexicans who will... Stuff like the above and pointing out that at higher wages, American's would be willing to work these jobs, led me to believe that you didn't think we needed the workers. So we both agree immigrant labor is necessary. You would prefer to open up a worldwide lottery for those workers, placing a humanitarian premium on who gets in. I like the theory, but believe it is in America's best interest to have allys with strong economies and would prefer to see Canada and Mexico with an edge. Yes, it's geographical luck, but isn't the famines in Africa and the civil unrest also geographical luck? Help ourselves and our neighbors first. With NAFTA and other intragovernment programs, it only makes sense.
