A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work & life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen & returned with a large pot of coffee & an assortment of cups made of Porcelain, Plastic, Glass, Crystal, some ordinary looking, some expensive, some exquisite. He told them to help themselves to hot coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in their hands, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap looking ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and worse, you were eyeing each other's cups. Now if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it." So folks, don't let the cups drive you..., enjoy the coffee instead!!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Patriotic Duty. :rolly It always comes back to that - that something has to be diabolical or evil or whatever negative connotation with this administration. Yet, they keep doing stuff and doing stuff. We'll see how Jeb does next . . .

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Thinkpad drives are on the side, and the ports are either side or back. Nothing in front but the mini-speakers. And last I checked, you got to choose between "The Dot" (the little stick in the keyboard, which is my preference), or a scroll pad. Many come with both and you can switch as desired. I could never get use to the "dot". I also don't use the scroll feature.

Interesting article. What I think is very interesting is the notion of a state leaving the United States. I always thought New Hampshire would make a nice country. Although their olympic program would probably suck

You send your kids out into the world and pray for the best. I didn't need to read this today, my daughter is in Dallas for a HS Student Council National Convention

Nuts to the left, nuts to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you. Like many important debates in our society, the fringe groups get the press because it's entertaining, but we really can't take them seriously.

Another great company is Kryptonite locks. I haven't used this lock in years and thought I lost the key. I called and they offered an exchange for $18 for a new style lock, a $50 value. But, when I did find the key, and somehow it didn't open the lock, they explained about their lifetime warrenty. They are sending me a pre-paid shipping label, and will replace the lock, with their newest style, at no charge. They also guarantee my bike against theft up to $1250.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Thanks Tex, that is exactlly what I meant. if you get permission from your company, more power to ya. If you just decide to go out for a bit, and screw the rest of the office/warehouse with your absense, I hope you get just as f***ed in the employment area. I don't see this stuff as helping the immigration cause. What would be better is if no one showed up, with the explaination, we were all *working* like we've been telling you. To the militant protester, I'm sorry, I believe that US policies caused a situation that is unfair to a lot of people. Let us fix the problem, and we'll help you out. But intimidate us and act ungrateful? I start to get a little upset. When they lose support from folks like me, they are taking a giant step backwards.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) WOOOOOHOOOOOOO! Screw them. I have no sympathy for these people if their stated intent is to inflict harm on the economy... go ahead, bite the hand that feeds you. Morons. bad move politically. Compromise is a far better path. I do not want my eleceted leaders to be intimidated into a decision. Rally, state your cause. But don't try to harm anyone in the process.

Recent experieces My daughters desktop suddenly stopped allowing programs to access the internet. I could "ping" sites from a comand prompt, but no programs would run. Self check, disconnected firewall, disabled anti-virus, spy sweep, virus sweep, finally rolled back a MS update, and it started working again. Month or two later, same problem, only the last solution doesn't work. Call to Time-Warner and Roadrunner, my ISP. Short version, the rest of the network can connect? Sorry, your on your own. Total time: On hold 10 minutes, on line with a person, 4 minutes most of it asking cya, post no help, speech. Grade F for f*** them if I had an alternative. Linksys: Time on hold, 2 minutes. Time with tech 1 hour. Combed over the system, piece by piece even after it was determined their hardware was working fine. Grade A++ for effort, professionalism, and willingness and desire to help. I wish I could pronounce the guy's name. Microsoft: Short version? #1 reason to go MAC. Grade F HP/Compaq: Phone support? Three weeks out of warrenty. I won't bore you. D On-Line support via "live chat" Four techs, three lost connections, multiple restarts, and finally the machine is running. 9.5 hours of work Monday. B+. Good people. BTW, Linksys was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was by far the best tech support I have ever experienced.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Striking up conversations at the urinals is not cool. Inadvertant peeking can occur, which is a big no-no. Which is why I think we are all fans of the Sloan Royal Flush II. How many times have I read that over and over again. Does anyone else make urinal valves?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) They need a foot upside their ass and kicked out of this life. That's how you deal with them. who? the terrorists?

I'd like to see the video. Throwing a bat could be better or worse than swinging the bat. Did the umpire get in the way of the toss, or did he throw with intent to hurt? It could be the difference in the real world from battery to attempted murder. Still striking an umpire has to be as serious of a infraction as can be.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) What makes you think he hasn't tried already? The bidding was at $5758.33 and Jas thought, "Hell, I haven't got that kind of money!"

There was one guy in all of baseball that the Sox could have picked up, while letting Frank go, and KW found him.

Gee, we're getting closer to outright bribes to vote for a candidate. Vote for me and I'll cut your taxes (i.e. give you money) Vote for me and I'll give you gas money (i.e. give you money)
