QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) Who would be the villain(s)? Why, the umpires, of course. At least, they're the usual suspects promoted by the media. I think he brings up a good point. I can't believe I missed the obvious target.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) It's ironic .. the whole white supremacy thing these days .. there's only one way for any ethnicity to become supreme: big families. Yet's it's pretty clear statistically that caucasians are well behind Hispanics, Blacks, & Asians in that department. They have by their own design opted to raise smaller families so that they can enjoy a higher lifestyle. Singing about Hess & Hitler is not going to help bring about big families. Their best bet is to try religion. I guess that explains why the Catholic Church is against birth control.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Who's Jeremy Piven? He's that actor that keeps complaining about drunk guys calling him. DUH!

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Mock away, but you missed one heck of a talk on sensory habituation and sensitization. I think that this is going to be a very good week. Sorry, not mocking, just think a huge clap would be a bit overstated for a University setting. BTW, How will this help you later when your husband comes home and you are

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) iguchi wasn't safe. he looked out to me. Too bad it wasn't an Astros runner or we would have seen 73 replays, from 9 angles, and super slo mo close ups.

The announcers made a big deal about it, he explained with the height of the ball, thought it would either be caught or a home run so he planned on tagging up. The announcer felt with the body position of Burk in left, Rowand should have been on second and possibly scored when the ball caromed off the wall.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Can you imagine what one of the biggest discussions in Phil Garner's office is going to be? Despite his public vote of confidence. They have even less of an option. BTW, the one Astros game I was at, Lidge blew a save. They went on to win with a walk off home run, but it was another screw Clemens performance. Later, I heard Lidge was suffering from the flu, but they didn't think they had a better option.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) OMG! Linda Spear said my presentation was excellent. The only thing more flattering would have been in Noam himself said it!

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) I'd think, given how he has managed all year, that this isn't even a discussion and Jenks will be out there next time there's a save opp. You mean 1/2 year. I don't think AA pitching can really factor in at this point. I agree he's the guy to have out there, but he's the weak link at this point. At the minimum, he's a question mark.

I thought this was a mlb mandate, not a White Sox or individual team thing. I know they do it in Houston and Dallas as well. I'd like to see them switch back and forth between the National Anthem and a couple other patriotic songs at the begining of the game.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) My initial fear is that Clemens, the Astros, and the media would make this into a "bloody sock" type of thing (the blood was katsup, by the way). Even if it is, I don't think Roger will be able to capture Schilling's magic. Clem is a competitor and if he didn't go in Game 5, he's hurt really bad. I don't think he was rocked enough to pull this kind of stuff. But who knows. At this rate, it will be a non issue when Thursday's game isn't necessary.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) You guys are unreal. The kid has one bad game and there's already "well, maybe he shouldn't be the closer" talk. Get a job at ESPN if you're into knee-jerk reactions. I'm sure Bobby's going to be just fine next time out. It isn't one bad outing. He is 6/8 in save opportunities and 1-1 W-L record. .750 save percentage isn't exactly lights out. I think there are good reasons to be wary of a kid who was just called up from AA a few months ago, and is now closing in the World Series. Especially one with checkered history of not always having his head screwed on straight. I'd be very surprised if this isn't the biggest discussion in Ozzie's office today and tomorrow,

I'm getting misty thinking about how much fun those style boards are.
-
I'e watched Clemens in about a dozen starts, including one in person. From the tape I saw, this was not the usual Clemens on the mound. The guy never ducks, I doubt he is playing a thatrical game. It has never been his style before.
-
This series has no obvious villains and a bunch of feel good stories in both dugouts. A bunch of good citizens, no juicers, no "evil empire", and lovable players on both sides. That could explain some of the coverage and fan interest. Who would be the villain?
-
I thought Jenks was the weakest link going into the playoffs, and nothing has changed my mind. He can be great or crap. He was playing in AA a few months back for a reason. I think Oz has created Jenks and is getting more out of him than anyone could imagine. Jenks + Ozzie = Fridge Perry + Dikta The one defense I have for Jenks is the umpire squeezed him during the 9th. I think if the ump had not blown the call on Dye, the strike zone would have been bigger. It may not have been a conscious decision by the plate umpire, but I don't think we'll get many close plays the rest of the way.
-
The Sox are not to blame for the poor umpiring. People who try and ignore the umpiring mistakes sound silly IMHO. What should be the story is how the Sox have capitalized on every one of those calls. Balls flying out of the park, runners scoring, etc. I wonder how the Sox ever won the division and produced the best record in the AL without those calls. And no one is talking about Jenks getting squeezed in what I believe were "make up calls".
-
And then we line up like little puppies when one of these talking heads picks the Sox and anointing them as genius. We fawn over Ryan Sandburg picking the Sox. Wow THE Sandburg. And of course when someone finally has seen enough to change their opinion, we complain they are bandwagon jumpers. There were/are some good reasons to not pick the Sox, especially at the start of the season. No team is perfect, remember, the Sox did lose one game to the Angels.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Any male that can think for themselves should not wear sandals. I wore out a couple pair of Tevas and usually have funny tan lines on my feet. But I have damn sexy looking feet Down here, you see sandals all the time and it's not a big deal. But to work, I'm in western boots.

It is hard to dislike the Astros. They are my second favorite team, but it is very easy to root against them, very easy. Zero conflicting feelings, and damn happy about that. A defining moment was when they dumped Lugo for getting arrested for domestic violence. They didn't even wait to see if he could get out of it. He was starting for them and on the field it was going to hurt them. They have a bunch of guys who are getting a lot out of their baseball talents, and are damn likable as well.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Who cares about #1 and #2... if Texas and USC stay undefeated, they will rightly play each other for the National Championship and the Champion will be determined the correct way... on the field. So you would agree that as long as USC is winning, they are #1? That was the point. They are suppose to be voting based on this season, not on the previous 2. But most people, including the voters, seem to favor take the #1 spot only if they get beat. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) During Joe's first ab today I actually yelled out "CMON RALLY CREDE" Everyone around me probably was like wtf is he saying. LOL

Sometimes the Rally Crede is a big jerk and likes to screw with Sox fans . . .

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Yeah, but that was one of the most improbable clutch hits of all time. A guy hits zero HR's all year, then hits a walk-off against one of the best relievers in the game. Which shows that Pujols shot really wasn't that great
