  1. If kong is gong, we will be digging a little hole that we will have to fill. Since we will get nothing of immediate value, we will have to trade something of value to come close to an All-Star first baseman. And the cycle of suck continues. The Yankees, Red Sox, etc can just build without tearing down. The rest of the world tears down when a guy is about to cash in. I am very weary of the we can't afford an All-Star situation.
  2. Perhaps someone got the Cubans confused? They all look the same Swap Hernandezand BMAC and I like this rotation for the next couple years and beyond. It would be nice if KW could keep them intact.

  4. Murphy's Laws Of Combat Operations Murphy's Laws of Combat - put to Latin. More Murphy's Laws Friendly fire - isn't. Recoilless rifles - aren't. Suppressive fires - won't. You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note. A sucking chest wound is Nature's way of telling you to slow down. If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid. Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you. If at first you don't succeed, call in an airstrike. The enemy attacks on two ocasions: when he's ready and when your not If you are forward of your position, your artillery will fall short All 5 second grenade fuses burn down in 3 seconds Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself. Never go to bed with anyone crazier than yourself. When your attack is going really well, its an ambush Never forget that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder. If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush. The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack. The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions: when they're ready. & when you're not. No OPLAN ever survives initial contact. There is no such thing as a perfect plan. Five second fuzes always burn three seconds. There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole. A retreating enemy is probably just falling back and regrouping. The important things are always simple; the simple are always hard. The easy way is always mined. Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at. Don't look conspicuous; it draws fire. For this reason, it is not at all uncommon for aircraft carriers to be known as bomb magnets. Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you. If you are short of everything but the enemy, you are in the combat zone. When you have secured the area, make sure the enemy knows it too. Incoming fire has the right of way. No combat ready unit has ever passed inspection. No inspection ready unit has ever passed combat. If the enemy is within range, so are you. The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire. Things which must be shipped together as a set, aren't. Things that must work together, can't be carried to the field that way. Radios will fail as soon as you need fire support. Radar tends to fail at night and in bad weather, and especially during both. Anything you do can get you killed, including nothing. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in, and you won't be able to get out. Tracers work both ways. If you take more than your fair share of objectives, you will get more than your fair share of objectives to take. When both sides are convinced they're about to lose, they're both right. Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs. Military Intelligence is a contradiction. Fortify your front; you'll get your rear shot up. Weather ain't neutral. If you can't remember, the Claymore is pointed towards you. Air defense motto: shoot 'em down; sort 'em out on the ground. 'Flies high, it dies; low and slow, it'll go. The Cavalry doesn't always come to the rescue. Napalm is an area support weapon. Mines are equal opportunity weapons. B-52s are the ultimate close support weapon. Sniper's motto: reach out and touch someone. Killing for peace is like screwing for virginity.

  6. Players almost never travel with the team when they are in the DL. Therapy is easier when they are in one place. I imagine towards the end of the season he may make an appearance, until then he's more a distraction than an inspiration.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) So, isnybody planning on playing the Cantore Drinking game during his coverage? We did it during Jeanne – until oue power went out. It's easy to play. Just take a shot of your favorite adult beverege each tome Jimbo says "hunker down." If the power didn't go out on us we would have been pretty sauced. cantore center Definition: The cantore center is an area of a storm that will be the worst hit. Named after famed Weather Channel Storm Chaser Jim Cantore, who is always sent to areas that have the highest probability of being destroyed by the storm. Usage: Holy s***, we're the cantore center for this one. I just saw him doing a live remote from my driveway. It's going to be very bad.

  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Sounds like we are going to have alot of new Sox fans in the world. Congrats to everyone. We have to replace the ones hurting themselves jumping off the out of control bandwagon . . .
  20. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) I have not come across anything like that, but Illinois does provide substantial rebates for installing a system like this. I think I might get up to 60% of my costs back. They are called "Net Metering Laws". http://www.eere.energy.gov/greenpower/mark...tmetering.shtml
  21. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Yes, an active system. I'm measuring my floors and figuring out how much radiation energy my house gets based on location, which direction the roof faces, etc. Next step is ordering the system, and I'll be installing it in waves and keep the forced air furnace until I get everything installed(I have to rip up all the floors on the second floor to install the tubing) For now it will just be for heating(our electric bills are never very high) but eventually I'll go completely off-grid. Is the laws still in place where the utility company has to buy your surplus?
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Wow, you must really be something special. I don't have any connections. His summary was hilarious. It went something like, In the middle of the night you email, no pmd, a Professor and asked him for help, and he helped? And these are the charts? LOL, now I've heard everything. He also looked over my attempts by hand and accused me of being a perfectionist.

Which ex-DePaul b-ball player robbed a store in Rockford while wearing his letterman's jacket? Skip?
  24. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Usually I have no problems with it, but I couldn't understand from the manual how to set up a design with two or more repeating factors for a within subjects design. But then I figured it out and was happy. (Until I actually did the statistics, then I was baffled again.) I will say, though, that Statistica is a far better and more user friendly program than SPSS or minitab, both of which I have fought through before. Chi, did I ever tell you the story of being stuck on a research paper and having a Professor at another University help me with all the stats I was trying to do by hand? As I was explaining to my Professor who helped me, we both started cracking up. He knew I was going to struggle because I hadn't taken stats, and he OK'd me to go anywhere and ask anyone for help. He actually added points for my "connections". A great college memory.
  25. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) I think that saying something can't be backed by eivdence is a copout. I don't have one statistic that I love for defense but come on. That's just hyperbole. Better organizations manage the intangibles. Not everything can be proven with objective evidence. Subjective is why we play the games.
