  1. I am an old married guy. I have an excuse for hanging out online "watching" a game. What the hell are the young guys doing here?? Waiting for the bars to heat up? Cheap bastards
  2. Nothing like extra innings when the pen has already pitched 6 innings
  3. The stars are alinged for the Sox. Next Thursday is an off day. Ozzie could just skip that start, keep everyone else on their normal days rest.
  4. I had to shop at the mall this afternoon. The cap stores had White Sox caps prominently displayed This is where the ugly ones go to die
  5. The schedule give Jose an extra day off next week. Thursday would be his regular day. Ozzie could rest him or have him miss a start.

    Damn damn damn

I learned Thursday that the best man at my wedding, my daughter's God father, passed away suddenly from complications during emergency heart surgery. It is a classic story of regrets. We had not spoken in years, for reason's he never shared with me. I may never know what I did to piss him off. We didn't have a classic argument. One day I asked when we were going to get together and split our Bulls tickets, and he replied I was out. I asked why and he had no answer. He stopped returning phone calls. I gave up. I assumed it would eventually blow over. I missed my 20th and 25th High School Reunions and probably missed the opportunities to mend fences. Some of you may have read his obituary in the Herald and News Sun. Tom was President of the Woodland School Board and a very nice man. He was 43. Leaves behind two beautiful daughters and his wife.
  7. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) Tex, the problem with this is that anything Clinton did that was not dealing with BJ-Gate was seen as "wagging the dog" (i.e. making any attempt to go after Al Qaeda) so indirectly, these "He got a BJ!" Congressional proceedings greatly inhibited the commander in chief's ability to protect the nation (and that's not even discussing the numerous extra-marital affairs that various presidents have had that had no impact on their ability to maintain the presidency i.e. FDR, JFK, etc.) I think several things, including 9/11 could be traced back to BJ-gate. But both sides are equally at fault. Of course it was politically motivated. Maybe we learned a lesson here.
  8. 100 motives for 100 people. Can we get past that chapter? Clinton did make some mistakes, he lied, he was disrespectful to the office. It is a shame his legacy will be filled with innuendos and snide remarks. But he made that bed.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) The Twins ARE the class of the division, until proven otherwise. He's reasons for the Sox failing were what showed his lack of knowledge. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I'm not conceding anything. I'm saying they are the champs and until they aren't the champs, they are the class of the division. YASNY is 100% correct on this. They have found a way to win when it counts year after year. They have a culture of success, and we are experimenting with "smart ball". Most of these guys pick 3 or 4 favorites, guess at Red Sox or Yankees, pick one runner up to win, and pick one "dark horse". Put another way, I'd feel pretty good about being a Twins fan.
  10. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) I just bought Snyder's Hot Buffalo Wing pretzles, best.purchase.ever. soft or crunchy? soft sound excellent, crunchy I'd have to try.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 03:59 AM) We DO need tougher border controls. Drastically tougher. I assume you are talking about Kentucky and I agree 100% a well armed militia, tanks rumbling down the streets, helicopters flying over head 24/7/365, armed checkpoints when leaving, fingerprint checks, national IDs, brave patriotic volunteers, searches and detainment without probable cause, guilty until proven innocent, make it right cozy to live there If you are talking about the US, we have close to 20,000 miles of border to patrol, both land and sea. How much money are you willing to spend on the people and equipment necessary to accomplish that? Should we stop vacationers? Foreign workers? If we are trying to stop terrorists from getting in, how can we allow tourism and work visas? Interesting that every President has either looked the other way or made it easier for foreign workers from our bordering countries to be here. From the great Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, they all have embraced these workers. Are they idiots, or maybe have a bigger picture of what is a risk and what is not?
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) then you should have no problem with my paintings of Kevin Spacey and Nathan Lane with the caption "Global extermination: I hate f**s" I think it's probably not a bad idea for the feds to make a little stop at this "artists" place and encourage him to think before he paints. I don't think an artist should have to think if the government would approve of the material. Did you think about the government's reaction it before making your post? I would guess not. When we have the freedom to make this type of statement, we know that the line is still drawn far enough out there to allow for the kinds of statements we all would agree should be protected. Having the government step in on something like this gives the government power to censor any criticism of itself and would be a giant step backwards, but a politician's dream.
  13. Try to get back to your seat during a Hawks game (when they are playing) and NOT waiting for a break in play. It's common courtesy to wait for a break in the action. Plus some of these yo-yos aren't even quick about it. They stand there and block the view and lazily meander to their seat. If you must block the view for a while, at least be quick.
  14. There is the potential for Oz to become a distraction and that should be a small concern. I wouldn't want Ozzies mouth to wrote a check his ass cannot cash. At some point players are going to realize they too will get trashed if they leave. Then they wonder if he's being a bit two-faced in saying nice things. Is he saying this because he means it, or because I'm playing for him? What's he going to say about this if I leave? Those are not the doubts you want your employees to have.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) I didn't want to restart the whole discussion. Just that "The Sky Is Falling" stuff you screaming about when this started, did not happen. Which was my point at the time ... wait and see how it all works out. These guys did bring attention to a real problem and that was their goal. I get it, you don't want to restart the conversation just give a little f*** you, rub it in my face, I told you so. Gee Thanks :headshake The vigilantes were talking about the armed confrontation that was coming from Mexico, I didn't see that. The armed street gangs from Mexico, nada, didn't happen. As far as the money, the point I am making is a sane visiting worker policy is needed, that allows American businesses to employ temporary workers from Mexico and other countries to work in the fields. You will not get workers to travel the country for 9 months a year picking crops. They will not live out of their cars, go to the bathroom in porta potties, uproot their kids from schools. Our economy is too healthy for that. Since we have not had any terrorists attacks since they are patrolling the border, should we thank them for that also?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) The capture of illegals has gone way down .... maybe because they stopped coming because the border was patrolled. Patrolled by volunteers, the professionals are watching the volunteers, keeping them safe. I guess it's possible the volunteers do a better job than the professionals. This may come as a surprise but we do patrol the border. They are called Border Patrol agents and they are are most highly trained uniformed law enforcement group. Where you thinking the border wasn't patrilled until the volunteers came to do it? IR sensors, motion sensors, airplanes, skilled trackers, dogs, cameras, satelite photography, informants vs. a hundred guys with binoculars, t-shirts, and clever slogans I was going to go up north and look for work. I knew I could survive the 200 mile walk crossing the desert, looking for water and food, I could get past all of the sensors, the airplanes overhead, the dogs, the satelites, snakes, insects, but damn, now they have patriots from California with binoculars, it's not possible Maybe we could make decoys that look like these guys, scarecrows of sort and position them all along the border. I just hope some positive change comes out of all this. We have to produce food in the US and we cannot take a huge increase in our food bill, without crippling an economy that is already stressed by $2 gas. I am thankful that at least one GOPer, our President, understands this.
  17. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) Don't you guys remember Tony Larussa? And of course the great Chuck Tanner. These are the only 2 Sox managers who went on to manage World Series winners with other teams. Those were the two I thought of.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I'm glad to hear that. All that violence had to end. The cops there going door to door rounding up the moon shiners? Not a problem bothering honest AMERICANS as long as we nail a few illegals. Patriotic Americans will give up probable cause if we can nail some Mexicans Remember anyone who looks Mexican within 20 miles of the border must be up to something illegal. Now that the vigilantes solved that problem, let's send them to New York and follow Italians until they solve the organized crime problem. Did you notice how so many GOPer politicians were so careful in how they criticized President Bush calling them vigilantes? I wonder if Clinton said that if they would have been so careful in being respectful to the President?? The biggest problem is the capture of illegals along that stretch has gone way down. While the Border Patrol is busy keeping these guys safe and stopping any problems before they happen, illegals are just coming in. Nothing like diverting already spread too thin resources away from stopping illegals and calling it a success. :headshake
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:02 AM) I think the Secret Service is right to at least check into it to see if its a threat. Just to clarify, Don't you mean I think the Secret Service is right to at least check into it to see if the artist is a threat. I don't think anyone would say the picture is a threat?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) ... if the border area of Texas has solved that "vigilante" problem yet. Yep, we sent 'em to Arizona
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Every freaking politician SUCKS. They're ALL corrupt bastard f***s. Every single one of them. So can we stop with the partisan hackery? /off soapbox The system is against the independent thinker. You need party support to win dog catcher, President and everything in between. Vote party line or go home. There are a few politicians I respect as people. They seem to be at the fringes of both parties. I like Kap and my Senator Hutchinson. I also really like my congressman, Ruben Hinojosa. Both seem to have some integrity and work hard to understand the issues that are key to them and important to their constituents. They also happen to be almost polar opposites in ideology. Tom DeLay Gotta Love The Hammer.
