Fonda did not hand over notes from POWs
Like Mark Furhman framing an guilty man . . . it never works to make up accusations. Sadly, too many people believe anything they read if it comes in an email.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About
QUOTE(winodj @ May 14, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) But once that precedent is set... Which is why we have a downward spiral. Each side uses bad behavior by the other as justification for their own bad behavior.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About
I am not an originalist with the constitution. Errors, bias, and politics were there today just like today. The framers could not have imagined technology and everything else of modern life. Just look at how blacks were written into the constitution as an example of something that needed to be changed. Our system of self government has proven to be flexible as well as strong. The checks and balances between the branches was and remains pure genius in my book. They same principle of check and balance keeps our two parties at bay. I believe absolute power corrupts absolutely and like both parties keeping each other honest. I do not expect either party to roll over and accept whatever the other party wants. I also don't accept anything less than honorable and respectful debate based on logic and facts not :22 second sound bites and distortions. I expect any President to pick candidates that shade to their political views, but not so much as to be objectionable to the other party.

Can Vang get a fair trial?
Juries are asked to just listen to the testimony and make their decision based on what they hear in the courtroom. It will be impossible for those jurists to not remember what they heard and saw in the day and weeks after the murders in the media. I also believe it would be impossible for them to not have an opinion before sitting on the jury. Understanding all that. The jury should come from that pool. I don't think juries should ever be moved. Sorry Vang, you will have an uphill battle.

Beating the Easy Teams
A couple years ago we had alosing record to the Tigers as they lost over 100. It seems this team always struggles with what should be easier wins.

Damn Virus
One of the computers on my home network has become infected with the Win32.Efewe.B virus. My EZ-Trust Virus program seems to have caught it and isolated the program. EZ-Trust dialog box suggests scanning the system. When I try and start EZ-Trust, it flashes on then shuts down. I can log onto the 'net with Firefox, but IE will not. Computer Associates site (Maker of EZ-Trust) web based scan only works with IE I've been checking some sites for suggestions and coming up empty. Any thoughts?

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 7, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) I don't think I've ever used the terms underrated and overrated outside of sports. It is sometimes confused with office politics. "Why did he get promoted again? He isn't that great, he got really lucky landing the Anderson-Greely account". "Bob works his ass off everyday, yet they passed over him again. he just doesn't toot his own horn, and the company takes him for granted"

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 7, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Oh, okay, then I'll step out of the discussion, because to be honest, I've never heard much talk of over-rated or under-rated outside of sports or entertainment. I don't feel qualified to comment on the topic outside of that realm. I think in a sports realm under rated is far better. Outside of sports and possibly entertainment, over rated is better.

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 7, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) I try to never compare the real world with the world of sports. I wouldn't get 7 tries at my job if I was whacked out on coke, so that removes reality from the sporting world IMO. When I started the thread and asked the question, I wasn't thinking sports, which is why I placed it in SL&P. People are over rated and under rated in all fields, not just sports. No need to compare one against the other.

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 7, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) Depends on WHO is doing the rating. If a manager is considered average by media people but is understood to be very good by his bosses, he is in no danger. A manager who is average but is considered to be very good probably lasts longer than he should as well, just because management probably would be skittish about dumping a guy who is considered to be a good manager unless he loses control of the team or if they're absolutely awful. Joe Torre might find this helpful in keeping his job right now. If either of these guys is seen as "the problem" by their management, probably no one could save them in the end, though. After all, managers are hired to be fired. Oops my bad. Which middle manager for Gaskets Inc.? Taking sports out of it.

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 7, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Then you DO agree with me.... I'm saying basically the same thing - the player hasn't changed, but the outside opinion is what rates him, whether over or under. What I'm saying is I'd rather have people think I'm playing over my head than have them expect more than I might be able to deliver. OK we agree on the definition. Question: Which manager gets promoted? The under rated manager who is very good, but is thought of as average, or the average manager who is viewed as very good?

A.J Pierzynski
As long as the team is winning everybody loves everybody. Let's look at a player like Esteban who many people wanted signed for life. I'm with YASNY, waiting a little longer, especially when he expects to be kept waiting is the proper course of action.

05best sox team ever
This is the best starting, starting pitching of any staff I've seen. The offense ranks behind a number of past teams. We'll see how the balance works out. I will feel better when Frank is healthy and in the lineup.

Over/Under Rated
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 7, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Over-rated means you're not as good as your hype. Under-rated means you're better than people give you credit for. I'll take the under.... I disagree a little bit. You are who you are. In one case people think you are better and in the other, people don't give you enough credit. What changes is people's opinion, not if you are better or worse.
