  1. I think he would be awesome during a radio show. I always enjoy him on the Dan Patrick Show. BTW, that 1987 Draft turned out to be amazing for the league and especially the Bulls
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) Not a shock, as mentioned last nite. If you're going to call him up, get him in a game right away. No use having him sitting on the bench getting nervous. Jump off the board and let's rock. Hopfully he can channel his butterflys and give us 6 solid innings. Then when Steinbrenner comes calling Kenny can hang up on him, and please Kenny hang up.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:38 AM) Now I was cool with all of this and cautiously optimistic that they're just being careful with Hernandez. But it's just stupid to pitch Brandon on Saturday if that's the plan, imo. Contrearas against Zambrano looked like a probable win, while ANYBODY against Prior is likely a loss if he's on. But like people have said, if we already won the series, BMac can relax and just pitch his game and if we win it's gravy. Are they trying to drop two to the Cubs? What am I missing here, guys? Brandon was scheduled to pitch Friday, maybe they thought sticking as close as possible to his regular schedule would be in his best interest and gives Contrearas an extra day.
  4. QUOTE(chisoxtime @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) Hi everyone. Im new to the board. I have been reading both this board and WSI, and I have to say that this is a much better board. The boards are about the same, but we have better posters Boards don't entertain and inform people, people do. Welcome to Soxtalk
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 21, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Just remember folks, even if B-Mac doesn't pitch great in his 1st start, and a Cubs fan tries to heckle you for it, just counter it with; "Oh yeah, well at least he's better than Angel Guzman!" I'd go with, "hey, we brought up a AAA guy to play a AAA team. Just trying to be fair."
  6. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 20, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) I had it done. No pain, was at work less than 24 hours later. But I did develop dry socket later. Incredibly painful. Horrible--a million times worse than having my teeth out. So, uh, don't get that.... I had three done at once, then a water main broke and they couldn't finish the fourth. That evening I played 18 holes without any pain or discomfort, and I'm a woos about pain. I thought anyone who complained about a simple tooth extration was a baby. The fourth was a horse of a different color. I developed "dry socket" (insert KY joke here) at about 1 am. The rest of the night I slept like a baby, that means waking up every 30 minutes, crying and screaming, wanting my mommy, and nothing would make me feel better.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) Is Ross Gload on a rehab... and lonely? I don't think Ross would have to be lonely just mentioning she's Chisoxy should be enough.

    About seventeen years ago I created a self propelled lawn mower operator. It took about 14 years of changing diapers, middle of the night feedings, and other events too numerous to list, but it finally works, intermittently, when it is out of it major source of sustenance ($$) or needs an alternative, internal combustion form of transportation, the family car. No, I don't cut my own grass.
  9. The Corps is the M in A&M and a major tradition going back generations.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) Texan. Texan, forced to visit Kentucky
  11. Fighting yesterday's battles today. It just doesn't work. I thought our society was at a point where the boy in question was free to do what *he* wants, not what society is forcing him to do and how to behave.

  14. QUOTE(winodj @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) *waits for obvious joke involving Saddam's Weapon of Mass Destruction*
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) The point is ... there is nothing illegal or underhanded about what they were doing in Gitmo. So why is it newsworthy? Because it incites anti-American hatred. That's all it accomplishes. Why are we talking about it? How are you defining newsworthy? If US actions are pissing off the very people we are trying to help. The very people US servicepeople are dying for. The very people we are indebting out children to pay for. It's newsworthy. This country is great because we do not allow our government to operate in secrecy. They are suppose to do what WE want them to do. We are in trouble when the press is only suppose to report what makes us look good. That would be the worse kind of bias imaginable. I don't think something has to be illegal or underhanded to be newsworthy, so I guess we will disagree. It seems like a very narrow definition of the news.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) Hey! I'm not Texan! You can be an honory Texan. Why, I'll bet we could dip you in a pond and scoop out cute all year long. Note: I have no clue what the hell that means, bu I read it in one of those talkin' Texas books.
  17. QUOTE(TheDybber @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) You may hate UT, but you'll be runnin' to Austin for the nightlife quite a bit. It's only an hour or so drive, and it's an actual city. Just please, for the love of all that is holy, don't join The Core!!! 6th Street
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) It's not about media and government, it's about about media and America. I want the media with it's nose in the government's business. But no good could come from the reporting of this situation. None whatsoever. We are dealing with people that want to kill YOU, yet you are so concerned with offending them. Reporting the methods we are using to "get to" these guys, when it is not in violation of the Geneva convention, only to stir up anti-American sentiments is pathetic. As I said, let Newsweek set up shop in Tehran. They care so little for the US and it's citizens, they should just leave. If it is not reported then it is up to the government to decide what we should do. I am concerned about offending the people we are trying to help. Perpetuating the ugly America view of being an insensitive blood thirsty nation without respect to their religion, culture, or society does not help. It is a far worst road if the media started deciding what should and shouldn't be covered by the effect is has. Isn't this the type of bias you have complained about? Deciding what to report or not based on political reasons? Was America better or worse off for Watergate? Was America better or worse off for Whitewater? Monica? If the media knew about Monica and didn't report it, saying they thought America would be better off not knowing, would you have defended them? Too many Americans want to be spared the ugly realities of life. Do not show the coffins of the men and women we've sent to Iraq. Do not show the types of techniques we are using to gain information. We can sink to whatever depths we want as long as we do not have to hear or see it. Yes, there are certain secrets that should not come out in the media. But the situation should be extraordinary and eventually reported.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 04:30 AM) Point granted. But ... since these people in Gitmo ARE the enemy, people that have tried to kill Americans ... I really don't care if we "offend" them in way, shape or form. So, let's hypothetically say that this going on in Gitmo. What possible reason could Newsweek have for even reporting it? It is not torture. It is not inhumane. It doesn't even cause the prisoners to break a sweat. The only reason Newsweek could possibly have for reporting it is cause outrage against the US in Muslim nations. As far as I'm concerned, the problem is not that we are doing it. The problem is that Newsweek reported it. True or false, they should not have reported it. Unless, of course, they want to take their happy asses to Tehran and open a corporate office there. I guess it comes down to how you view the role of the media in our society. Those that believe our media should be propaganda machines for the government will agree with you. Those that believe a government is strongest when their actions are not crowded in secrecy, will not.
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 19, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Being falsely accused of desecrating their holy book in the print media isin't helping in that endeavor. Retraction or no retraction the damage is done. Agreed. We have to remember when we are "softening prisoners" by forcing behavior that is against their societal taboos, we are also alienating the very people we are trying to win over. This won't be as bad once we are able to give Iraq all the same freedoms we have. Strip bars, Howard Stern, rising teen pregnancy, lowered religious observations, etc.
  21. A&M is one of the Top 5 AG programs in the US. College Station is pretty typical for a US, semi-rural college towns. Each one is different, but each one is the same. First lesson is you must dislike, perhaps even hate, the UT Longhorns. Get a sticker that Saws 'Em Off As far as the social life, you may dislike Texas women, especially if you dislike tall, sweet, beautiful, and sexy.
  22. I was hoping they meant the growing national debt from our spend and don't tax politicians who insist on buying votes.
  23. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 20, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Cub fan
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 19, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) BigHurt35, you make some very good points. I stated at some point that anyone who would pull this flushing Quran pages was stupid. But, on second thought, I change my mind. Ok, so it would be a PR nightmare for us in Muslim countries. However, we are also at war with Muslim terrorists. "Desecrating" the Quran is not torture. It's not inhumane. It does, however, hurt their feelings. Awwwwwwwwww. Too f***ing bad. But we are trying to build bridges with average, normal, sane, Muslims. We cannot write off the entire population.
  25. Happy Birthday Y'All
