  1. The political calculation is will you lose more votes if the Sox leave the city, or you finance a stadium. Also you have to calculate the odds of them actually leaving.
  2. Those teams and teams with even worst records are already playing in September. Look at the schedule the next couple of weeks. Do you want to drop or keep the shittiest of the shittiest teams playing? The playoffs are just a way to cut crappy teams, consolidate TV viewing, and keep selling tickets by reigniting interest. Otherwise they could just declare a winner after 162 games.
  3. Sure. It's still in the 90s here, I forget the season is about over. Gotta get them some experience and every game counts. Plus evidently some fans still care who is playing. Other than that, who would care what most of the teams are doing? I wish they would add another round of playoff and end the season at 154 games.
  4. I guess there won't be any rest days for those kids at this point in the season. I forget how little is left on the schedule.
  5. But we're going to keep cheering for them no matter what they do!
  6. That would be Sox thing to do. In a season with 35 wins they will make a decision without easily obtained current data. It might cost then the opportunity for 37 wins.
  7. San Antonio about to spend $160,000,000 on a MiLB stadium. If the promises of economic growth in the area are realized it won't cost the taxpayers a dime. 😂 Destroying some affordable housing along the way.
  8. Only if you believe Getz can draft well.
  9. We should but we also know that as long as JR and Getz are around it will be 100 losses a year. But saving money on payroll will at least help the ROI for the ownership group.
  10. And now the franchise is barely alive.
  11. A quick recap. The question was why should he play? About the only reason would be to give him an opportunity to show if he has anything left. I don't think anyone could see a possibility of him being in a Sox uniform next year. Then the question was how could that possibly help the team? I was curious what you thought and asked if you were a free agent would you consider how the team treats their veterans. If that is something free agents would consider *then* it would be an advantage to play him. If free agents don't care then they can just DFA him or let him have a great view for that 35th win of the season on the bench. I don't believe anyone said anything about him being mistreated in any way.
  12. If we want to improve our chances in free agency is it necessary to improve how we treat players? Or do we not try, keep getting passed over, and just accept that is going to happen? I'm thinking at least do the cheap stuff right. Don't f*** up the easy stuff.
  13. If you were a free agent would you look at how the team treats their veterans?
  14. At this point I think they have to see what he has left. I can't imagine a scenario he returns but you have to look.
  15. And the next guy will deserve to be fired after next season. And probably the guy after should be a one year hire as well. Hopefully those guys will have helped the 2027 guy to keep his job for a few years.
  16. I look at it more like not remodeling because you can't decide to start with the plumber and the pipes or the carpenter and the floors. Start at the top, start at the bottom, but start.
  17. Getz was promoted because he knows the organization. We think the organization sucks and people need to be fired. Maybe Getz also believes that the organization sucks and is firing people. Cleaning house seems like a good start whether you want him in the position or not.
  18. Jerry is playing 3D Chess "Well Getzy buddy we only have one more person to fire." "But I'm the only one here?" "Bwahahaha"
  19. This reminds me of LA during the Lakers run of championships. They didn't pay attention until the finals, I don't pay attention until it approaches 20 games.

Hope are you defining qualified managers? Qualified as in already achieved some success as a manager? Success as a coach and stepping up?

I wish it were that easy. Force a team who made back to back playoff appearances a couple years ago to do what? The Tigers and Angels haven't made the playoffs in 9 years. The Royals and Pirates haven't been in 8 years. So now you are forcing more than a few teams to do something that will move quality players from the better teams to worst teams. I don't believe the players are going to be that excited. The league could have forced Ohtani to not switch teams because the team he was on kept missing the playoff. If Jerry was forced to increase payroll how much would have had to outbid the league for a Ohtani level player? Could you imagine him coming here for an extra million? Twenty million? Hundred million? The league is doing something, to discourage teams from tanking now instead of the #1 pick we'll be further back. That's really helped light a fire in the organization. It would be great, but the solution isn't from the league.
