  1. Exactly. Taking money from salaries to do what is necessary in the rest of system is an idiot Jerry move to protect his profits.
  2. Not a troll at all. We never build. If we have something of value we use it to fill a hole. The answer of course is to invest in the system WITHOUT taking money away from the payroll. The reason we suck year after year is the constant taking away from areas that are barely good to eliminate the problem areas. It's literally rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
  3. And what happens when we have to pay those better players? They leave. My point is taking money from one area to fix the other just digs another hole.
  4. And what would that minor league money go to? How would they spend it?
  5. So the key to success is less money to spend on players? JR approves of this message.
  6. How big of a raise would it take for someone from a top organization to leave to that over the Sox in the same role? That's one person. I think by the end of the process of hiring many more it would be a considerable amount of money. We're not even a good stepping stone for talented people to fast track their careers. There is a high price for being an historically bad franchise. Then the next problem. Explaining that after we invested all this money on FO talent there is no money left over to pay for top players.
  7. The GM will probably stay healthier longer.
  8. When I was teaching senior seminar we would do a simple lesson let's plan on having $500,000 cash at age 60. How much would you have to save if you are 50, 40, 30, 20 and they start seeing the magic of interest.
  9. Damn, I thought Grady was going to turn things around
  10. Memorial Day in newspapers across America. Editor "It's really slow today what White Sox articles can we get a jump on without wasting our time?" "Moncado gets injured?" "Already finished, we've been using a template from the last five years." "Sox are first team to be eliminated?" "Perfect. Time it for Labor Day. No team can be worst than that" lol
  11. I would like to see teams allowed an offense lineup and a defense lineup. Basically universal DH. Caleb doesn't have to play D. Platoon it like football.
  12. Whoa. I want a 145 game season, seven inning double headers, and all short inning pitchers. It's the kids that want this long ass season.
  13. With shortening the season that would have to happen.
  14. I'm thinking the shared TV money from playoffs would offset the loss of meaningless home games.
  15. I wish baseball would get with the 21 century and expand the playoffs. Teams like the Sox shouldn't be playing in September. Not just because they are bad, it's to help them next season by their players not getting hurt. Rest their guys, have an expanded fall training to get then ready for the next season. Have the top four in each league earn a bye to the second round. Have eight teams in each league playing for the opportunity to play those eight. That would be a 24 team playoff without the worst of the worst teams.
  16. Why go backwards? That's like last century thinking. Next they will want them to bat. Go forward. Expand the pitching staffs, have all relief. Some guys may be first inning specialists. Others mid game. Put a little strategy back in the game. Get this game out of the last century.
  17. Careful, Getz may consider that a challenge.
  18. Having confidence in a couple choices allows me to react without really any stress.
  19. My entry was a mutual fund that I literally just kept adding money into and barely looked at until I split it with my ex. I got interested in a more active approach, like yourself, and started picking some individual stocks with mixed results. @southsider2k5suggested ETFs and my results have improved greatly. QQQM has been very good to me. NOBL is my safety bet. About half or so I have in stocks are in those two. I know a few people that got started with an Acorns account. Cheap to open. Set your risk levels and they pick the investments. Watch them for a while and you'll gain some insights. For the majority of Americans their best investment is buying a home. Their second biggest is not paying interest on credit cards.
  20. It was until the games industry cratered and Bally moved their video slots and lottery business to Nevada. Fortunately for me telecom exploded shortly after that.
  21. When I was in the electronics industry Bally was my largest customer while nearly every version of Pac-Man was being built. I was a "game tester" and they would send a game to my house. I had to give them back eventually but it was a sweet deal. Most of my friends saw Professor Pac-Man for the first time in my basement.
  22. I know they are at home but I wonder what MLB would do if JR decided road games are too expensive and they stopped traveling.
  23. Here's my nightmare scenario "Hey Beni, we need to add two million to your deal to hit the minimum".
  24. I think this goes back to something that has come up a couple times. The Sox not only have to be high bidders for a free agent but by a significant margin. The "we suck as a franchise penalty". Once we have them, moving then gets tough. Would he have played elsewhere for the same money? A million less? Five million less?
