Sailing takes me away

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) The reason you can try to hang peavy on Cooper is that Peavys mechanical issues contributed to and caused that injury. That said, the sox always lead the league in starters innings, so keeping his guys healthy is usually one thing coop is great at. Or Kenny does a nice job of selecting players Maybe Ozzie knows how to use them

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) How so? There is clearly successful (trophy presentation in October) and clearly unsuccessful, 100 loss season. Then some stuff in between that changes based on any number of factors.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Maybe they should open a Hall of Nice Guys who played Forever? Matt Stairs & Sean Casey, your plaques are ready. Instead of a hall of drug abusers and cheats? Sure. The hall is a celebration of baseball. Would you rather have Clemens and his stats in the hall for future generations to see? here is what baseball values . . . Stats and a needle in your ass. America's game

Quite right, bloody well right

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) You act as though this guy wasn't given a fair shot to prove his innocence. He offered nothing over the last 10 years to show that. A jury found him guilty on some pretty strong evidence tying him to the scene in the same clothes, eye witness testimony of him being the shooter, and ballistic evidence to support it. This wasn't some bulls***, trumped up case. Essentially what you guys are suggesting is that our criminal justice system should allow someone to delay their punishment indefinitely because who knows what he might be able to create to establish his innocence. So, credibility or reasonability of the "evidence" aside, he offered a new theory so it must be accepted as true. Actually I was pointing out the difference between life in prison and capital punishment. We have opened the gates of prison and righted, in a small way, wrongful convictions. You can never give those people the years back, but at least to you could something. There is no remedy for those that have been executed.

(oops forgot something) perfectly fine day ruined by not being wealthy and having to work

I don't see the problem, if somehow some new evidence would prove his innocence without a doubt, we can always dig him up and bring him back to life.

Do I understand this correctly? The city employees belong to a union? Further, this law allows city employees to accept positions with their union and continue to earn credit towards their city salaries? These guys are basically the city employees upper managers? Are they in some way connected to city workers while working these union jobs?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) Neither one of them belongs in the Hall Of Fame. I can't believe people are still pushing for Baines to be in there. Character and longevity are not appreciated enough IMHO.

It is better to control your own fate by playing your division as much as possible. I could do without playing the NL and add games within the AL, even more division games. I would rather lose the division by getting pummled by Detroit than the Rays or Angels (for example).

With the kind of disappointing season the team had, plus the usual solid season Merk had, I can't see the team not signing him. I must admit he is, at best, borderline HoF based on the numbers. I am hoping the sport wakes up and notices that the players who they have been honoring the past decade have not brought much honor to the game. Guys like Mark and Baines not only played well for a long time, but are solid citizens and great ambassadors to the sport. I believe that has value and should be considered in the voting. It's their entire contribution to baseball, not just stats.

There is some component of "results to expectations" that is factored in. I have watched with enjoyment seasons where the results were worse than this. But I feel the worse about this season than any other since the strike. I can't even think about watching the playoffs.

Happy Thursday, day two of our 6-week exams. Over 5,000 questions on hyperbole. What the hell do I know about hyperbole to teach these kids?

A guy like that you have to trade while his value is the highest. Imagine if we traded him in 2006 who we could have gotten for him. Damn Kenny. With all that craziness we also watched PK and MB, two of the best character players of all time.

Why? Usually there is at least a good cover reason. I'm not seeing at all how the city would benefit.

January made me shiver

The ponzi element comes from needing new players to pay off the old players. That was one part of their business model, holding onto money, that always fascinated me. I couldn't believe so many people were leaving so much cash with them. You wouldn't go up to a random person and say here's $500, hold it for me. Players had to know the company was operating on the fringes of the law, so there wouldn't be much legal protection.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) Gerrymandering is always an evil, horrible thing that the other evil party does. Exactly.

QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) your facebook spam convinced me to take a look... Some things never change That's right the playoffs are starting, bandwagon jumpers are showing up

Are you by any chance on the Delancy mail list? That was the excerpt for today. Very interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) All you Need to Know about Government Bureaucracy Pythagorean theorem:...........24 words. Lord's prayer:.........................66 words. Archimedes' Principle:..............67 words. 10 Commandments:...............179 words. Gettysburg address:...............286 words. Declaration of Independence :...........1,300 words. US Constitution with all 27 Amendments:.......7,818 words. US Government regulations on sale of cabbage:…..26,911 words. While I agree, you do know that is really misleading.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:20 AM) Please stop with the Alomar/Martinez ideas. The LAST thing this team needs is another player's manager. *another* I'm not certain I would consider Oz a player's manager this season.

Good ol' #45 for the Barons, he gave up a promising career to go back to his former career. Sad Jon Rauch and almost that entire group. The Sox were going to be stocked with arms for a decade or more. They were the next Atlanta Braves. Maybe that's why I basically stopped caring about minor league players. They are like socks, just buy a lot of 'em and something will match.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) I know we're all jaded about politicians, mostly with good reason, but they aren't all the utter scumbags we sometimes assume. Maybe he's got some principles. I believe the majority, well over 95%, go in as good, honest, decent, people hoping to make a change. The bigger the stage, the more the system causes them to make compromises to stay in the game.
