They never should have been the Oakland As. That should have stayed in Philadelphia when they moved after fifty years. Close the record books on the Philadelphia As. Then when they moved have new records for the Kansas City (new name). Then when they moved again start records for the Oakland (new name). Now start a new set of records for wherever they land next. When Kansas City was an expansion team they should have had the choice to keep the records from when a team played there or start with a clean slate.

That's exactly what I was saying. I understand bringing a gun into a restricted area is a crime. I also understand that accidentally injuring someone is a crime. It escalates from a misdemeanor based on what actually happened to the victim, not what might have happened. Now look at convictions and the likely punishment. Our justice system doesn't put people in prison for this. Especially with an uncooperative victim. How is it trolling pointing out a fact? I'm all for increasing the penalties. I vote for candidates that promise to do that. Gun laws in this country are b.s. and need to be tightened. I believe nothing has happened because of b.s. gun laws which treat accidental discharge as a misdemeanor, lax penalties for carrying in restricted areas, and underfunded and overworked police with bigger crimes to solve. Yep. And of all the crimes committed in Chicago how many people are you going to put on this case? One? Five? Ten? There are so many unsolved murders, assaults, and other violent crimes with victims demanding justice and where the penalty would be actual prison time. That's the reality of crime in America. I really wish someone getting accidentally shot was so unusual that ten cops would immediately be on the case. But we underfund the police and justice system.

I'm for real, but the folks that write and prosecute the laws might not be. I'm not certain why you think that is me. Our society generally punishes people for what actually happens, not what could have happened. Hurt someone while driving drunk is different than killing someone. Same principle here. Yes, the probability of this case getting the max is higher because of the location. Now if you are outraged that the punishment is so little I suggest voting for leaders who will toughen these laws. VP Dick Chaney accidentally shot someone and he didn't even apologize. I believe the punishment in addition to whatever damage the shooter caused should also be the automatic loss of your concealed carry license on the first and loss of all rights and automatic disposal of any weapons on the second. But in most states that will make convicting more of a challenge.

With all the unsolved murders, sexual assault cases, etc why put resources on this? The victim isn't complaining. The only reason anyone cares is it's inside a stadium. Well that and those that hate JR or the Sox.

If they flop they weren't ready and the Sox suck for rushing them. If they do well they are held back and should have been on the roster last year and the Sox still suck.

With the distance a bullet can travel there really isn't any safe place in the city. We've discussed the possibilities of a long distance shot a few pages back. While I still believe it's entirely possible the shot came from outside it's like Rich Strike winning the Derby, the longest of long shots.

Because the owners bring in billions. If they don't pay salaries like that, they will earn obscene profits. Remember during the strike how fans wanted the players to all get a bigger share?

Historically this will be a slightly below average season with historically low expectations. I think they can avoid 100 losses. They won't beat themselves and don't have anyone on the roster who has been arrested for that.

@South Side Hit Men Excellent list with Abreu, Baines, Beuhrle, Lemon, Sale, Thomas, and Ventura. I wouldn't argue any of those names. Now look at the reality. $19 million plus per year for Abreu. Does it make sense for this team and for Abreu to be playing in Chicago next season? Sentimentality, sure it would have been nice, but it works out well for both.

But this may be where MLB teams are drawing the line. Multiple domestic situations might be too toxic for modern media driven entertainment.
