Undocumented worker who became quadriplegic is moved to Mexico against
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) The key difference of course is that in one case you're talking about LEGAL citizens, and here we're talking about someone who broke the law, was saved by a gracious system, and is now complaining that the free handout of 650k in medical care paid for by the US is not enough. I am talking about someone who was a criminal in Mexico. While committing a crime in Mexico he is badly injured. Mexico then claims it will cost them too much to take care of him so they send him back to the US for treatment and lifelong care. Y'all would be fine with getting the criminal back because he is an American citizen and even though he was committing a crime in Mexico, the US taxpayer should pay for his lifelong treatment.

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) I read that you need a burr grinder to get a coarse grind for a french press, but that all seems expensive. Don't let great be the enemy of good. I've even used regular drip grind and it was better than using a drip coffee maker, so that's what I did.

Just wondering, using the example of an American who decided to leave the US and move to another country. He becomes injured working there and needs a lifetime of care at considerable expense would you . . . Say screw him, he left the US, it is his problem, he likes that country so much he should stay there or Since he is an American citizen he is our responsibility from cradle to grave and the US taxpayer should pay for his injuries and lifetime treatment.

2011 Soccer Season
Moved the record with our second straight win 3-2-1. 3-0 win. I even allowed my best striker to play for the 8th grade along with one of my backs. Tournament starts Thursday.

Coffee Talk
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) I can't imagine giving caffeine to somebody that is already hyperactive and can't sit down or focus on something for very long. Actually the drugs they give are stimulants. I was surprised as well. Focusing is an active process.

I agree with SS. He received treatment that saved his life and made it possible to transport him. He was going to die in someone's health care system, returning him to his home, I believe, is a sound, ethical, and moral decision.

Coffee Talk
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I actually saw a little kid (7 or 8ish?) drinking coffee yesterday. Kinda surprised me. My kids have had small sips of their grandparent's coffee here and there but that's about it. Most everyone I know didn't start drinking it until high school at the earliest. They may be trying a little self medication for ADD or ADHD. Many people report it helping. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_caffeine_treat_ADHD

2011 Soccer Season
QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) How old are they? 7th Grade girls. For most it is their first time playing. I have them in a 4-4-2, so we're already a bit stacked on defense. My two middle backs are awesome.

2011 Soccer Season
Current record 2-2-1. They finally seem to have a feel for getting the ball in the goal. My backs are fricking awesome to watch.

Very happy, I finally found a replacement for my old backpacking boots and for much less than I expected to pay.

Coffee Talk
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) I just think it tastes too watery, no matter the brand. I love coffee, and I feel like that method of brewing is not pure. I switched from a French press which I liked to the Keurig. The water hitting the beans under pressure seems to pop more flavor. Mine has three water level settings, I can tell the difference between the smallest and largest brew size.

Coffee Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) I'll have an iced coffee once in a while when I get a taste for it (talking 5 or 6 times a year), but I load it up with tons of sugar and cream. I never understood the fascination with coffee. I don't like the taste, it doesn't wake me up, it makes your breath smell just awful, and it gives you the runs. Exactly, what's not to like? Pipes thawed, no signs of leaks. Happier now.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
Couple Egypt concerns Relations with Israel. We pump about 1.2B worth of military aid to Egypt each year, I believe as part of the Camp David accords in 1978. If a government steps in that is anti-Israel, we may end up fighting all those US paid and made weapons. Suez Canal. Nothing like controlling the flow of a lot of the world's oil.

Working, Loafing?
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) I doubt it. And unless they change the structure of my bonus, I'll have to make the same amount of revenue in one fewer day this period. It's actually a blessing in disguise though, since my paid time off is maxed out and there's no extra off days in sight for me, this will atleast allow me to earn another day for the future over the next couple of weeks. Yeah, it never seems to work that way.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) Eh, not a fan of the coffee. The hot chocolate rocks, though. I am surprised, with all the different varieties it seems like you'd find a few you like.

Working, Loafing?
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) My store stayed closed on Wednesday but I didn't get the OK to stay closed until about 11:00am. Before that, I was obligated to keep in touch with my employees to see if anyone could access the store to open. I was then asked to either take on an extra day later this week (not much of the week to do so) or use a day of paid vacation to "help offset the labor costs and revenue losses." I could have put up a stink, but I just filled out the Paid Time Off form and went about my day. Hopefully they remember the sacrifice and later offer an extra day off to "help offset the increased profits and revenue gains" during a busy time.
