  2. Velvet Underground just missed my top 20
  3. Yes did not make my list, but I wish they did
  4. In theory, California is ultimately saving taxpayers money by not having those same taxpayers paying interest to whomever Cal would borrow from. The difference is the taxpayers (voters) get to see it. If lawmakers borrowed from another source, chances are no one would know, or care. So for transparency in government fans, this is probably a nice touch. Better, why not cut back on spending, which is basically what they are asking some taxpayers to do.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Almost everyone's job does the exact same thing. Great point.
  6. Summer is over, I had to wear long pants today.
  7. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Well I don't think schools have any "right" to punish kids for what they do outside of school. That's just going too far and infringing on their personal lives. Sheesh, there's way too many people who "follow the rules" on this site. Entitled to everything with no responsibility for their actions?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Its been that way for a while now. yep, and each side seems to get better and better at it while we lose.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Because the administration can't point to the economy improving when unemployment is still getting worse. Jobs saved gives them a chance to say that it could be much worse, but we did all of this and saved X. Jobs is one part of the economy. Wages another. Remember Bush playing that game. We lost high dollar jobs and gained low paying service sector jobs. Regardless if it looks good or bad to whomever, whenever you are turning something around, the first order of business is slowing down to a stop, then turning around. But in today's climate it seems to be far more important to make "your party" look good or the "other party" to look bad. Solutions and progress, actual or perceived, be dammed.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) Doesn't this thread answer your question? It gives the Administration an easy bullet point to beat the media with (650,000 jobs!) It gives the Administration's opponents an easy bullet point to beat the Admin. with. (Do some better math!) Everyone's happy, especially the people who aren't out of work. That only works if the public accepts the number.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) And people thought I was crazy for saying from day one that "Jobs Saved" was an impossible number to prove. Perhaps some did. I think it is the same with jobs created, impossible to prove, especially if we try a one to one causality. There are just too many factors to control. I think we can look at trends and within a range see what growth or loss we have. But, last I looked economics was an inexact science. But slowing growth or slowing loss is a real thing, it does happen. But you are right, proving exact numbers just ain't going to happen. So why do so many people want that number?
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) You lost me. Which part?
  13. The Republicans would of had a field day talking about Obama's nanny state, socialist agenda wanting to own people's houses. No way that proposal would have passed. Plus, who were you helping and what could they later do for politicians runing for office? Money >>>>> votes.
  14. Had the Eagles at the top of "my list".
  15. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Rush made my cut and ELO wasn't even close. Didn't mean to bring you down, Bruce! Wasn't the list suppose to be alphabetical?
  16. I could have pulled about 25 different names out of the hat for 5-20 and been happy with the pick and position. It also has changed dramatically the past 10 or so years. I went with mostly mainstream acts except for voting Brian Anderson #1.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) For my money, the Twins are last, and the Royals are a step above. Let me put it this way, who was the last big named player the Twins have brought in? Good analysis, Either one seems like a huge stretch. I just had a very hard time thinking of Manny in a Royals uniform.
  18. Start with a paint manufacturer and work backwards. Call their consumer hot line, explain the project, and see which paint and process they recommend. You will need to know the material and finish of the coin. I'd pick a broad based paint manufacturer like Rustoleum as a start. You may also find yourself at an auto parts shop.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) ELO is great, and this reminds me that I left them off of my list...Rush, too. ELO is on my list and Rush just missed.
  20. f*** it, this made my brain hurt
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Well, there are easily 8 types of pie, 15 cookies, 25 different table desserts, 20-30 chocolate desserts, brownie desserts, special cakes, etc. Exactly, do if we have 85 desserts each getting one or two votes . . . I like the lotto idea. I think the dessert can work, we just need some parameter so that there is a balance between choice and enough votes so that the difference between the #1 and #25 isn't 2 votes.
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Why do people think being a vocal leader meaning only pointing out the negative things and getting in someone's face? You can be a vocal leader and help teammates adjust. Give him some of your own personal input. Help clear a teammates mind. When Everett was on the squad, you didn't hear about him complaining left and right and that's it. But he was the vocal leader of the squad because he would tell you what you needed to hear. PK & Dye, especially don't do that. I don't consider AJ a leader because I don't think he wants that tag and he doesn't strike me as that type of guy. Buehrle is kind of the same. He just wants to be one of the guys. We need an Orlando Cabrera. We need a Carl Everett. Look at the two teams playing in the playoffs. They have a strong vocal leader in each clubhouse. Rollions and Jeter. OK, let me change to, I don't think a veteran player should have to have a cheerleader in his face if he doesn't want it. Give the guy some respect. A leader should have more than one approach based on who he is trying to lead. Perhaps there are some guys that need a kick, some a carrot, and some you should just stay away from. Perhaps we have too many one trick leaders in the club house.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Everyone started out in the minors at one time or another. Who would you rather have, Brad Lidge or Daniel Hudson? I'm not following you. My point is veterans should do not want someone in their face should not have to have someone in their face. At this point in their career, they know what they need to do.
