Sandy Alomar Jr- Hired by Indians
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:35 PM) The security almost did, because I was crying (I mean, seriously, snatching balls from little kids?) and they came to see if the foul ball hurt me. Two hands youngin'; make the catch I remember there was a fair amount of threads here where we predicted he will make an excellent coach/manager. Best of luck to Sandy.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Anybody who owns an iPhone and is even remotely inerested in dipping his toes into the Tiki cocktail world, the deal of the century is yours for the taking. Over the last decade, the Insane, God-Like Tiki Revivalist Jeff "Beachbum" Berry has published the three most important books of "lost" recipes ever. Two of these (Grog Log and Intoxica) were spiral bound home-published volumes (due to be updated, expanded and re-released next month!) that are long out of print, and the third one (Sipin' Safari) was released a couple of years back. None of them were particularly expensive, but you are stil talking about $40 total cost plus the difficulty of searching out the early books. Now, however, you can download a new iPhone ap called Tiki+ That gives you all of the drinks published in all three books, plus some from a fourth food and drink book Jeff did, in an interactive and intuitive format right on your phone. 150 great cocktails at your fingertips!! And the best part of all? Right now the app is only $3.99! Download this app and pick out a drink or two to mix up and you'll be hooked. Trust me. I am finally starting to put together a tiki bar. Sipin Safari is a great read. BTW jim, I picked up The Complete Joy of Homebrewing. Very interesting. I may have to order a second copy for the birthday gift, this one may show some signs of wear lol

Southern New Mexico help
I am looking to spend a week somewhere up near the New Mexico / Texas border. Looking for a lodge, B & B, etc. Anyone spend any time in that neck of the woods? Nearby hiking trails, decent to very good restaurants at a minimum, etc

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) I don't think Dylan is gonna be that high. There's not much more of a Dylan fan than me and I had him at 4. I think I left Dylan off my list. I was in a very pop sort of mind when I did my list. Without looking, I did a second list today and and 8 bands changed. lol

My Fleetwood Mac vote was probably split 65-35 towards the pre Rumours line up. Looking back over my list, it is weighed heavily towards what oldies I've reconnected with at this stage in my life. For obvious reasons, Rumours fits nicely.

Gitmo in Illinois?
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Yes. But, even with that. I feel like we look at these lowlifes like they have superpowers, or something. I really doubt, if a play is made to release them, that just because the jail is off U.S. shores, this means the U.S. would not be hit in that "play." How many countries have needed an offshore jail for their most heineous criminals? QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) The country of San Francisco. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Well done. well done indeed I love those posts.

Ny Times, champion of the Unions.....
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Yeah we never see Clarence Paige or Garrison Keillor weekly in the conservative Tribune, or Thomas Frank's weekly column in the WSJ. exactly, and thank you for pointing that out But that doesn't seem to even raise an eyebrow . . .

Ny Times, champion of the Unions.....
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Tex, if the paper had an editorialist write an editorial AGAINST unions, THAT would be a dissenting opinion. No, they allowed a pro union editorial while they themselves were anti-union. Sounds like allowing a dissenting opinion to appear. How would a anti-union newspaper printing an anti-union editorial, be a dissenting opinion?

perhaps more of a window than divide. They are a "band with a couple nice hits" for me. I do not know too many people in their 50s that would have Pearl Jam on their list.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) I'm surprised my ranking of Lynyrd Skynyrd at #12 is the highest vote they received. I had them higher, than lower, then off the list, then I think around 15. I was crazy with this list.

Ny Times, champion of the Unions.....
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) So they had an editorialist write a pro-union piece and now the times management, which is probably far, far removed from that, must only hire union workers. Another amazing post. Yeah, a newspaper allowing dissenting opinions to be published. That's terrible. Thankfully, proper conservative newspapers would not allow dissenting opinions to be published.

The Finer Things In Life
Long story short, hanging out at a new bar last night with my bff and she was in the mood to try something different, on the plus side it did involve me, however, it also involved the bartender. Sadly, I was at a loss to recommend a good fall drink that a restaurant/bar would produce. She was not interested in anything fruity or pedestrian. Thoughts?
