Healthcare reform
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) sh*t if America wanted the Republican's making these decisions, they wouldn't have voted them out of control. America also voted Republicans into office. They want those leaders to work, not roll over and play dead.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Totally disagree. The longer each side keeps fighting, the stronger the insurance companies get, because they keep buying off more and more congresspeople. And the one side who is most vehemently opposed to doing anything that will make the situation better is the insurance company side. So the Dems should quit fighting and accept the GOP plan.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) What's "fake" about it? Illinois was a confederation of Illinois tribes and the Chief is a symbol of that. And the Chief was "approved" by the Sioux many times throughout the Chief's existence, providing the U of I with authentic headresses and dances. I fail to see how this difference matters on the "offensiveness" scale, which is the reason fire spear throwing traditions are ok, but a dance is not. Edit: Sorry, "Illiniwek" was the confederation name. So was the Chief Sioux or a confederation? How can one tribe approve a confederation and how can a confederation be an authentic depiction?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) I'm in total agreement with the double standard at play here. Illinois = ok money, FSU = good money. That's the only reason it happened. The double standard is authentic and Tribe approved = good Fake and Tribe not approved = bad

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) Which is what they were going to do all along. This is no surprise. It's still proven that the majority of the country doesn't want this, and they are going to shove it right down our throat. The problem I have with these polls is no one can define what "it" will be.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) I got pretty lucky. My school ended up having pretty good cafeteria food. Texas State, where my son is at, seems to have a pretty good system as well. Plenty of variety. Good hours of operation. I know some people living off campus that pick up meal plans.

Healthcare reform
I really hope all sides keep fighting. As long as the compromise isn't let's all get what we want, it will be better.

Tom Ridge Book
I believe that most of the time, "national interest" and any "White House" pressure to follow policy, toe the line, etc, is a good thing. I believe if he was having differences, keeping them internal is the right thing to do, in most cases. (I know we can come up with a hypothetical to the contrary). Later, as kind of a post game analysis, these types of stories come out, I think that is good for going forward.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 04:38 AM) Obama beat McCain, Sox traded for Jake Peavy, claimed Alex Rios on waivers in the biggest financial "free" waiver transaction of all time, and they are in 2nd place, 2.5 games back with Detroit losing in Oakland. share the news with your computer when you want. And Favre is a Viking

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) So basically you are saying that everyone someone just cries "liberal" bias is enough to discount a story. Got it. Of conservative bias. I think we have all read enough quotes around here to know fact from fiction, but some still sneak by.

sports records
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) I'm pretty sure I was the 1st pitcher in my HS to throw a no-hitter. I caught a no hitter. I think I was so much more nervous than the pitcher. It was a non league game, and we were clearly no match for this team. Still, it was very exciting. The game was almost called in the 4th because of the "slaughter" rule.

sports records
A couple that will never be broken! HS Cross-Country course records on courses that have been developed into housing areas. Several HS track records. 880, 2-mile relay, and I believe I still have the mile record. I doubt my 880 record will ever be broken, since they do not run that distance anymore. I also went my entire senior year without being defeated in a conference or regional Chess match.

Healthcare reform
If the numbers are large, it shows what a big, and costly problem this is. If the numbers are low, it shows this is not as big and issue and will be cheaper with a smaller impact on the system. So either side would have their point added and subtracted from. Bottom line, the lack of health care for so many Americans is much more likely to negatively affect their lifespan before another terrorist attack or other such event that we invest out tax money to.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) It takes some adjusting to the food but she should be fine. At Illinois, most everyone ends up leaving for an apartment after freshmen year, which is what I did. Except I am of no use in the kitchen which has made quickly realize I was lucky at hall to have a dining hall in my dorm, ha. She's already talking about that. She is also talking about going the RA route. She would be a good one. Personally, I'd like to see her that.

Are the Sox done?
I'm not expecting to be too interested in the playoffs. I would not be shocked if the team went on a tear and caught the Tigers, but I would be surprised. The more likely scenario is the Tigers experiencing a key injury or a terrible slump.

September Call-ups Predictions
This will really depend on how tight the race is. I do not see them calling up more than a couple guys if it is a dog fight. Fields and Flowers for two. Maybe an arm or two.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) Yeah I had a corner too which really worked out well. Food is not very good, but that's about the only complaint with Bromley. Everything else is far superior compared to living in one of the public dorms. Not having choices of where to eat would drive me nuts. My son is at Texas State and they have seven or eight campus dining halls plus all the food exchanges at Blimpies, Zatarans etc.

What is your job?
I work for the Boy Scouts. Membership, money, and summer camp programs. B.A. in Psychology and English. Would love to be teaching, bit there are precious few HS openings in Texas.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) I lived there last year. Awesome place. It seems like it. I was up there for new student orientation over the summer. She is rooming with a friend from HS and they were assigned a corner, which they really wanted. I've heard mixed reviews about the food, but complaining about dorm food is always in style.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Haha it sure looks that way by what I said, but I am not. Just curious because I am an RA and was wondering if she lived in my building. She's in Bromley. She joined like five organizations over the weekend. So far she's enjoying it.
