QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Billy Koch. Todd Ritchie. David Wells. I have mixed feelings about Billy Botch. I really do respect how he faced that adversity square, with no whining, no excuses. I disliked the way he pitched for us.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) I think the big point is that going into the season, who besides Kenny Williams, actually saw the White Sox that way? Exactly, and even the most optimistic had their hopes on Konerko, Crede, and Contreras contributing at their usual numbers, not being injured. Balta, I agree. "if everyone is there", but they are not, which is why I would not call it a choke at this point and under the current conditions.

Executive compensation. Earlier I posted that I would be in favor of when a company goes under, or is managed in crisis, the top company executives should receive the same as their least paid employee in compensation. Now I'm rethinking that. Here's the thing, if that was the case, could a troubled company hire the kind of top level talent that they believe they need to get out of the problem without a so called golden parachute? Perhaps there is some merit, but I'm still hard pressed to like it.

It's all about keeping shareholders (now voters) happy. What worries me is politicians always gravitate towards "helping" as many people as possible. That's good for getting reelected. "Helping" in this case could mean almost anything, but I doubt it would mean making it tougher for borrows. I'm with SS, I'd rather they went home. Then, maybe, when they return a better thought out and reasoned approach could be implemented.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) And as for the petty part, after reading the stuff that is posted and said by a couple of people, including yourself here daily, there really isn't much room to talk. Did you just quote yourself? While I appreciate the point of view that a campaign is stuck with its supporters, I do not have a problem with a campaign excluding anyone from "helping". There are elements of both candidates support base that they are embarrassed about. So if I want my guy to be able to exclude people, I have to allow Obama to as well. Anything else, to me, would be hypocritical. And I would jump all over Obama if he had a bunch of druggies making campaign appearances for him. To me it would mean he has not learned a lesson in that poor behavior and would be yet another reason I would not vote for him. I would not consider it any sort of loyalty test.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Using something he did as a reason? That's pretty two faced. If we are trying to put those two on the same plane, I think it is a stretch. I would rather have a President who made a mistake and stopped embracing that mistake then one who said, well I did it, so I have to continue to promote that agenda. It's no more two faced than telling your kids not to drive drunk if you have done it a time or two.

This is hilarious, on a topic that everyone pretty much agreed on, there was a way to have a pissing contest.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) haha typical mindless Obamatron comment Obamatron, I love the nickname Is that original? And a perfect label for Jim. Never an original thought, just mindless rehashing of party lines. Talk about raising credibility! If he was a conservative he'd probably just be walking around yelling ditto and mega dittos!

The other thing we get is "except the posters here because . . ."

It was impossible to not stop and watch him bat. People with only a passing interest in the game knew how special he is. Amazingly loyal. He was the face of the franchise, much like Roenick, Payton, Jordan, and Sandburg. And like in real life with MVP votes, he probably was slightly slighted by not being the #1 on more ballots. It would seem that somehow he combines platitudes to his greatness while simultaneously being under appreciated. It did take a HoF player in Jim Thome to soften the blow of an icon leaving the team.

I believe it is more a factor of how close the top few are for many posters. I could have thrown Mark, Wilbur, Harold, and Carlton in a hat and pulled any name and been happy with my pick. Four #1s in a sense.

I've been trying to think of Soxy, Rex, Balta, Jim before using the term 'Dems will' 'Dems think' etc. and to think of Kap, SS, YASNY, Jas before using the term 'GOPers think', and 'REPs will'. By personalizing it, I think some of the argumentative statements that are so incendiary would be better phrased, leading to better threads.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Sooooo... I got to the end and realized that I had no bio. Seriously, just post his name and invite everyone to write a bio. He was the face of the franchise through some pretty lean times. I think it could be a really cool thread.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) So what you're really saying is, we should change the title of President to Quarterback? Either Barack Obama or John McCain will be inauguarated as the 43rd Quarterback of the United States in January 2009. I've gone with an even different metaphor - cheerleader. One of Reagan's greatest accomplishments was as a cheerleader. After the scandal of Nixon, the bumbling and WIN! silliness of Ford, the sit back and wait Iranian policy of Carter, Reagan rode in on a black stallion and said we're here to kick some ass. Give me a U Give me a S Give me an A! Clinton had some of that same magic. After watching grandpa Ron and Grandma and Grandpa Bush he was a sax playing hedonist that could party.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) no it was actually a post with a theory of how Palin was going to step down and make the excuse that she had 'family matters' to attend to. if the GOP stalwarts predicted that, then they predicted correctly found it, from flasoxjim, in closed Palin thread See old Republican guy from Florida
