First off, one of the courses I am taking this fall is Forensic Psychology. The text books are Evil Minds and Mindhunter. Bwa ha ha ha. I too have a fascination with events like this. I also never have liked horror movies. There obviously is something a little astray with this guy. Hmm, soft and chewy on the outside, crunchy in the middle.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) You can't believe anybody who takes time to post on here wants the Sox to be in second place just to say they were right? If they posted the team was going to be in second place, then hell yes I'm saying there are posters here who would rather be right then have good things they did not predict happen to the team. They want Fields -or- Crede to fail. They want Buerhle to not be an ace. etc. They want to show they are smarter then Williams or Guillen. I've read it for 5 years around here. As soon as something bad happens that they predicted they start a thread gloating. Mariotti would fit in very nicely around here.

There are Sox fans on this board, and there are self absorb posters who are fans of themselves. They would rather be right then have the team win.

8/2 Sox-Royals on FOX Saturday Game - 2:50 CT
Texsox replied to elrockinMT's topic in 2008 Season in Review
This is crazy. The local Fox Affiliate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XHRIO-TV which is actually in Mexico, but broadcasts in English, is carrying the Yankees - Angels game. One other Fox channel I receive, this one from the US, is carrying the Sox game, but in Spanish. When you live down here, it all makes sense. -
What player would you most like to have seen play for Sox?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) I think you'll see both candidates embrace this. Not before the election.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Have any of those players won a World Series? I guess Soriano did with the Yankees, and it's hard to criticize Johan Santana...whose Twins' teams never had the depth to get past the first round. But it is very curious how Soriano has moved around so much (for a player with his offensive skills) and hasn't won much of anything but big contracts since leaving the Big Apple. A-Rod? Well, I guess at SS, but I don't think we could have won in 2005 because so much of our payroll would have been sunk into his contract, and we wouldn't have been able to add on Hermanson, El Duque, Vizcaino, AJ, Iguchi, Pods, etc. However, it would have been nice to see, and he would have been closer to the Iowa hometown of his best friend from Scores, lol. Maybe too far from Madonna, though. I don't think this is an excercise in what pieces would have helped the team win anything. Thomas was awesome to watch, and I'm glad I was able to be there for many homeruns. I guess you could say he won a ring. The Southside Hitmeb ERA was exciting. For Cubs having watched Maddux or Sandberg was probably a treat, they never won a ring. This list seems to be more, which players were just cool to watch. I'd love to have cheered for Clemente even more. Nolan Ryan would have been exciiting as well. I was a Johnny Bench fan growing up, so maybe I would add him as well. -
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) That's fine then. When the next article about ted Stevens comes out right around election time, i look forward to it also mentioning all the dirty Democrats as well, including those that have yet to retire like Jefferson. How about the first article here? Where was the balance? No mention of anyone other then Edwards. No wait, they also dragged Obama's name into it. Of course he's a Dem and Fox News would never think to mention a GOP or miss a chance to link Obama to a scandle.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) Even though it takes 14 paragraphs to mention anyone other than Edwards? Yeah, it was just an article about politicians in general who have failed their marraiges. That's bull. The writer just found a way to take a story that was about one politician, a Democrat, and twist it into something negative about the Republican candidate and positive for the Democratic candidate. There is no other way you can take that with the first 'other' politician mentioned in the bad being McCain, and him ending with Obama's 'picture perfect wife and kids'. And sure, he mentioned Bill, but that only furthur serves to diss Hillary, which the Obamaites hate anyway. Actually they took an article about one Republican, McCain and all his failed marriages and dragged all these Dems into it. Why? Edwards isn't even in the race. Damn vast right wing conspiracy. They probably held the article waiting for a Dem to be in the news (An Enquirer Article at that!). Pretty careful disguise I think. They knew they needed to continue the liberal media slant and by finding a Dem to attack they could also mention McCain and not be accused. Sneaky. Actually isn't this what you always want? Balanced? Find someone from the opposing party and show they too do the same stuff? When it's a GOP, you always point to Dems that do it too. Let's do the twist, like we did last summer. The article is what it is.

The Internet Comes to Armour Square Park: Softball game article
Texsox replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) Haha, what's with the physical descriptions of posters Pratt? Otherwise it was an interesting account of the game and both websites. I'm upset I missed Dougly more than anything else I think Pratt was wishing he had X-ray vision . . . -
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) A man in my town drove a tow truck for a living and at his place of work he took a chain, tied it around his neck, tied it to a nearby pole, and proceeded to floor it in his truck. Wow. In a strange sort of way, I respect someone who shows a little flair and style for their "final exit". The downside is the mess and trauma for those that have to clean up. That is wrong.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) So why is it that the oil companies get to decide then how much profit they will make? Where exactly is it determined that Exxon's profits are going to be $11.25 billion every quarter? And why have those profits been going up at such an incredible rate over the past 8 years? Why exactly is it that in 1999 Exxon's quarterly profits were on the order of $1.5 billion and now they're up by a factor of 7? If it's the case that each company starts with x costs and takes a constant amount of profit on top of that, then how have yearly profits gone up so much faster than the rate of inflation if they haven't increased the amount they earn per barrel of oil? Look at the end result, how much fluctuation do you see at the pump? As crude rose, notice how the increases were in lock step with each other. As taxes rose, notice how pump prices rose across the board. What evidence do you have that this would not be treated like any other across the board increase in cost? When was the last time someone tried to increase market share in fuel by cutting prices? My knowledge is not from the economic side, but from the sales and marketing side. If I was an oil company, I would know that I could pass this increase on, and, based on years of experience, my competitors will follow. In fact, I would call all the media representatives and announce that pump prices would be increasing a dime or whatever and make it really easy for them to know what to do I wish we had someone with a knowledge of Obama's plan posting.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) No, because this was a story about 1 man f***ing up, almost literally. Not the Democratic party, not politicians, but just John 'Two Americas" Edwards. No need to mention McCain, Newt or Obama. Now if it was a news story about how all politicians are twofaced, then go ahead. I think that the story was about *what was written*, which is about a string of politicians who have failed in their marriages. And that seems like a very good story idea. It is not a Dem or Rep problem, actually it is something that happens throughout society.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) Actually, in many localities, you CANNOT hire police, teachers, administrators, councilpeople, etc, from out of town. For multiple reasons. I agree with Kap. A representative for a district cannot realistically do so without living there, IMO. Which is why *Kap, you, and I* would not vote for an out of town candidate. But while we may disagree on who would represent District 33 1/3 in Maine, it is the voters there that get to decide who is best to represent them not us. I see major cities all the time hiring department heads from outside the department and they come from all across the country. They are required to move to the city, but they can be hired from outside the area. Are you saying that some cities will not interview anyone from outside their town for those positions?
-
If each company starts out with X costs, they must place profit on top. So increase costs across the board and you will increase retail prices. Look at taxes right now, areas of the country with higher taxes have higher pump prices. I don't see how they would not pass any new taxes on to the consumer.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Absolutely f***ing not. Dismissed. Next? Care to give a reason? We take residency for granted, but if voters in a town wanted to elect someone from out of town, it seems like it should be their right. After all, they can hire an out of towner for Police Chief, Administrator, etc. Why not hire the best person on the planet, not the best person in that district? Maybe then we would have better overall representation. And I'd scale it up all the way to Congress.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) Sure, take a Democratic scandal and make sure to get in all the Republicans you can name in the article, including McCain, and then show how great Obama is at the end. A wonderful way to twist this into something positive for Obama, when it has nothing to do with Obama. Or McCain. It seems fair to write what pigs we've elected and showing that it doesn't matter which side of the aisle they caucus. This is both a Dem and GOP issue. If this was an article on philanthropy and only Dems were mentioned, conservatives would be screaming that there was bias and they should have been mentioned.

Excellent point regarding taxing after the fact. To add, it basically is a tax on consumers because the oil companies will just pass it on, they always do. So we have yet another Robin Hood government program. I also really, really, dislike the government running a deficit *and* paying Americans. It really reeks during an election year. Vote for me and I'll give you $1,000!! I'd feel better if it was his own money and not mine.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) so, I attack McCain... get attacked. Promote Obama... get attacked. WOW! Ok, let's talk about Obama's plan to offer a $1000 stimulus package to Middle and lower class Americans by using a windfall profits tax on Oil profits. While McCain pushes a lame $30 gas tax holiday, Obama is pushing a $1000 check. OK Let's talk about it! With record annual deficits and a record federal deficit, shouldn't a windfall profits tax be used to pay down the national debt? Perhaps when we have paid off or at least paid down the debt we could look at politicians buying votes with "free money". It isn't free when we are simultaniously borrowing money to fund the government.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Again - you're equating AHB's actions (and now thoughts, apparently) to Barack Obama. Have you seen Obama's responses (I doubt it)? If so, what about them gives you the impression that he's so thin-skinned? Good point. So do you care to take a guess why all of the links? Besides padding a post count and spamming the threads?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Make the 5... yes 5 negative attack ads in a row: Correction: 6 in a row- Now tell me why this makes Obama a better President then McCain? Connect the dots for us. In this age of terrorism and anti-American senetiment all over the world, perhaps Obama is too thin skined to be President? He's going to see and hear a lot worse if he gets elected.
