  1. For our roster it means they should be in Birmingham.
  2. And I cancelled my subscription as well and cited firing the Sox beat writer as the reason. It renewed next month. I may have to renew in the fall for Hawks and Spurs coverage but maybe my daily reading habits will change.
  3. I have so many different points and they changed through out the day. They fired the Sox, but also didn't take the opportunity to reassign Fegan (like they did many others), who by all accounts is a great writer. They could have fired any of the other Central beat writers and had him pick up the extra. So maybe it's a bit more than just the Sox. Salary? So many other top writers from good teams were also let go. East coast media have ignored the Sox and much of the Midwest forever, so this is just a long continuation of East Coast bias. f*** them. I've gotten to the point with this shitty franchise that I'm looking at it like any other reality TV show. I don't care if some actor has a side chick with a baby. I don't care about TA's personal problems. I don't need a reporter to dig up why my favorite show is sucking this year. I don't need him to investigate and ask hard questions of the producers, the casting director, the director. I already know they suck and they hired people who suck and it won't change. So why read the article. Want to talk about engagement numbers? Right here. We are way down. Traffic sucks on the site. Thankfully we had this discussion to gather some posts. This is a ghost town when a couple posters just posts the same stuff. Someone posts a different point of view, asks some questions, and engagement goes up. Why do the happy crap reporters keep their jobs? The more fans learn about this franchise the more they understand it's the worse one in all of baseball. Totally pathetic for over 100 years. So fans stop reading articles that just remind them how bad it is. Because the truth just sends casual fans to the exit and they stop reading and the engagement numbers drop. Sell a vision to the casual fan and they may keep reading. Time for JR to sell or take his crappy ass team elsewhere to fail. Chicagoans don't care enough about his team to keep a beat reporter employed.
  4. Trade him while his value is high.
  5. Aren't they generally happy? Maybe they know something we don't.
  6. Sucks about Billy. I'm a sucker for guys who play. Bonus likes if they have ability.
  7. As an American I'm offended. That which you do not like has been used successfully to break terrorists into revealing key details. It's how we really found out where Bin Laden was hiding.
  8. We'll always have here to tell us how horrible the franchise is. Do we really need the Athletic to remind us how utterly incompetent the entire organization is?
  9. Announced saying there when they mean they're or their. ? Do or die. Sudden death. This is war. Any of those analogies. It's a reality TV show that has manipulated the public into believing it's more important than it actually is.
  10. This is helping me to care less and less about this team. He's basically an actor on a reality TV show I watch. I don't need to know the personal life of the actors, I don't need the show to have a full time reporter.
  11. I hope Fegan moves on to politics or some hard news area. I would enjoy his White House coverage.
  12. It happens when they have to lay off staff to stop losing money. We're the worst big market franchise in baseball. Kansas City and Miami are just more engaging.
  13. I think hundreds of fans will be disappointed in The Athletic's White Sox coverage. About the same number that would click on a link, read White Sox and think s%*#, I thought this was a Boston article. Hopefully someone picks him up or he starts a pay per read blog. It will be interesting how many Chicago subscribers cancel. Will not getting Sox coverage be enough to also give up Bears, Bulls, Hawks, Cubs coverage? I had about ten follows. If they analyzed my engagement Sox coverage was probably only 15% of my total but I read 100% of Sox material. I joined everyone in cancelling.
  14. The team really needs to incorporate a rugby pre game haka to drive engagement numbers. Honestly why do we care some NY media outlet decided to overlook the Sox . . . again and again and again.
  15. The point was if they just looked at which teams (NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB) to cut and didn't look at who the writers were, they would have had no idea what the cost savings would be. Not teams as in the XYZ Project Team (which I agree happens) I'm assuming that they looked at more than just the won lost record. Plus national engagement has always been lower than NY, Boston, LA, type teams.
  16. Seems like there is more than just how well the team is doing.
  17. https://frontofficesports.com/the-athletic-lays-off-20-journalists-in-reorganization/ I haven't seen a complete list. Seems like MLB, NHL, NBA all lost three or four. All business reporters were let go. Some general assignment journalists. Twenty more are getting new assignments possibly in addition to what they are already covering. Cowboys, Cavs, Canadians, Maple Leafs, Pirates, White Sox, I didn't see any coastal teams.
  18. Kenny please retire. Promote Rick. Hire someone from outside the organization. It's the White Sox Way™ Start selling this season. Look for a 2028 playoff appearance. Sorry JR but you may never see another post season win.
  19. @nrockway So much here. 1. Can we bring a sign that reads Fire Hahn for Hiring (fill in player's name) 2. So we shouldn't have closed the Tim has other kids threads? 3. What a dumpster fire this team is.
  20. So they aren't just like the Pirates? I swear that exactly what you just posted.
  21. Exactly. It's all fly over land that the major population centers don't care about. Interest where? Nationally? Didn't happen in 2005, we complained Sox highlights were always after Yankees/Red Sox. And it's not just sports.
  22. No. I'm trying to explain it's not as easy as the Sox suck so we lost national coverage. The Pirates lost their beat writer and they are in first place. Plus I see two issues. A. Sox lose beat writer (that's on the team not being interesting nationally, and historically true) B. A really good writer lost his job when others were reassigned. Part A makes sense. But it goes beyond the standings, look at the Pirates. Part B only makes sense to me if other factors, specifically salary, comes into play. Again, looking at the other writers fired.
  23. And he isn't good enough to be part of the group that was reassigned? I can't believe that. Usually during layoffs there is a target dollar amount they are looking to save. They dumped two of the best and most respected hockey writers of all time. I agree if folks on the coasts cared about Sox baseball he'd be in a better spot, but that's only one part of the equation. Remember during 2005 we complained about national coverage. This isn't new. The Pirates lost their beat writer. I thought they were doing well this year.
