  1. So game number 4 with "the big six" playing together? Let's try to improve on that 11.3 run average.
  2. Yes. I'll take our rotation situation -- even without Rodon -- over theirs any day.
  3. Yeah crazy that he'll probably be their fourth starter now, if they even let him start a game in the ALDS. I assume they'll go McCullers/Framber Valdez/Luis Garcia. I suppose Greinke could turn it around his next start or two and change that, but as of now he looks like a gas can.
  4. Come on Keuchel—another one like last time. Just give us a chance.
  5. Despite his innings increase, Kopech doesn’t look like he’s running out of gas at all. He’s had his issues, but fatigue doesn’t seem to be one of them. Dude is throwing smoke. I’m hopeful he will have a big impact in the playoffs.
  6. I don’t know about that. This isn’t domestic violence or PEDs. What’s the last athlete whose image was undone by infidelity (the very anomalous Zobrist example aside)? Most people don’t even know who’s divorced and why.
  7. Joe Crede was a 1.6 WAR player in 2005. He was a lot closer to Leury Garcia than he was to our current third baseman.
  8. He was. But we have plenty of guys with the ability to carry us when the time comes. It’s not hard for me to imagine a “new Crede.”
  9. Luckily we have at least six position players on our current roster who are better than Crede.
  10. How are we behind Toronto? Because they’re having a hot couple weeks? They have a worse record and we beat them head to head.
  11. Huh...I must not have looked far enough. I clicked on one upper deck/400-level section to find something cheaper and it also showed 194. By then I was just panicked and wanted to make sure I got something.
  12. I just got a couple for games 1 and 2 in Houston as well. Had a few tabs open and got through on all of them -- not as hard to get in as I thought. And it looked like the pricing was kind of standardized across sections: 194/ticket for everything I saw. Got pretty good seats.
  13. Yes—agreed. If he has anything left in the tank at all he’ll be helpful in the postseason. It’s just not all that long even in the best case scenario. We’re talking three or three or four starts at most.
  14. Interesting—I was just there a week ago for the first time. Didn’t go inside but was shocked at how horrible it looked from outside. It looks so much worse than the “old” place (still standing right next door) I did a triple take. The new park actually looks like the older one somehow. Looks almost run-down already, and very Soviet-style. I asked the Uber driver “so that big warehouse-looking thing is the old one, right?” Couldn’t believe when he said it was the brand new one.
  15. The Padres run the franchise like a fan might — make every “cool-sounding” move possible. Reminds me of the Mets and Angels over the last decade or so. Lots of big splashes that make us jealous in the moment but ultimately don’t work out at all.
  16. Yes, it would be sweet to clinch in Cleveland.
  17. BTW, I do believe *this* is a record-setting game thread for the season. Only 10 pages! Keep the uncontroversial Ws coming.
  18. That’s not really a problem at all.
  19. Is that the standard 20 game plan—and playoff tix for this yr are automatic? Thinking about getting it for this reason but don’t want to pull the trigger until I’m sure about the playoff tix guarantee, and I can’t seem to find the right info on the site.
  20. Yes this would be a chill time for the Sox to just win a bunch of games in a row.
  21. Also the first game in Tampa where TA tied it in the 9th and won it in extras.
  22. Yes, of course -- this is all that matters. There's no magic to where the score stood precisely in the 7th inning. The question is how many late-inning come-from-behind wins do we have (i.e. "come from behind wins from the 7th inning on"). Whether we were down in the 7th, 8th, 9th, or extras doesn't matter.
  23. I might agree but for that last start against Boston.
