  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Tribune says the Sox are dangling De Aza and Viciedo. This, together with Rock's comments, solidifies that are players with any sort of contract are worth s*** on the trade market right now. I'm getting pretty nervous that we're going to overpay for an impact player when we're already stretched on depth.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) I'm not upset about that at all. It is a big gamble to bet that he is worth his contract over those next couple of years. Rios shocked me last year, he really played well. That said, his history of rotating good/bad seasons scares the hell out of me. I know current FA contracts are starting to make Rios' look better, but I still would move him if given a decent deal.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 06:45 AM) I don't think it's ever happening, but if the Sox did sign Hamilton, they pretty much have to move Rios' salary. Yup, and DeAza would stay to leadoff most likely.
  5. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) Only Mike, though. I don't trust that Giancarlo guy...
  6. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) Does anyone have a good idea of the left-handed hitters that are available via trade? As Rock said, the outgoing package could be Floyd, Quintana, and Thornton...that doesn't open a spot in the lineup. So, maybe it's Floyd, Quintana/Thornton, and Rios/Viciedo. Could the Sox actually be in on Hamilton, and the trade frees up cash and brings back prospects? I dont see the Sox typing up that much into one player, especially one with so many risks. It just isn't like the Sox to do that. I'm 95% sure that the splash (if any) will come in through trade.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) That doesn't make me think we're going to get too much in return... Seriously, apparently our guys just don't have value.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I don't want to give up much for a 31 year old that is not under contract for very long. Right, which is why I'd trade either Rios or the 1 yr guys we have (Floyd and MT).
  9. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) Granderson for Floyd, Thornton, and Quintana? Let the Yankees add pitching and forget about the mistake they made by letting Quintana go and let them add bullpen help. We might get something else back in this deal, too. Thoughts? Too much for one year of Granderson. Take out Quintana and that looks much better, maybe throw in a prospect.

First time ever not having finals, feels weird but fantastic. And then I remember that my friends left on campus are out drinking right now...
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Not to always be negative, but isn't Keppinger another one of those guys you wouldn't dream of adding to your fantasy roster? Are we becoming the Baltimore Orioles (aside from last year) of the last 10 years? Isn't he a really bad option to get all those at bats as starting 3Bman? He's an okay option, he should patch up the position for at least a year. Of course we'd love to get someone better, we just don't have the resources to compete in a depleted talent pool at 3b.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) At least for 2013, bringing up Sanchez is questionable at best. Everyone complains when the Sox rush their prospects, but they always want the Sox to rush their prospects. And Sanchez is farther than people here think, imo. He may replace Escobar this season, but if he's starting on the regular, we'll be in trouble.

  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) paul hoynes ‏@hoynsie Heard Jack Hannahan has big league offer from AL Central team. Could be White Sox, who will need 3B help if they lose Youkilis. #indians. That scraping noise you hear is us at the bottom of the barrel. But seriously, Hannahan is nothing more than a backup on any team.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) Otherwise expect Paul Chryst and some other ex-Badger coaches to be names on the list. Doeren is going to be kicking himself.
  16. QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) I simply expressed how I choose to enjoy the game of baseball and did not attempt to invalidate the advanced stats ... disagree with the importance some people put on them, sure. But I didn't personally insult anybody that holds these stats to a higher regard. Wite is an example, he holds a high opinion of these stats but he's knowledgable baseball fan above and beyond just the stats. As for the comment someone made about arrogance on both sides, let someone insult your baseball insight and see if you don't get your hackles up. Oh please, if both sides would keep the arrogance out of this then there could be some actual conversation. But no, both sides think they are superior fans, and it's an old act of advanced stats vs eye test. Everyone has different ways that they enjoy the game, if you don't agree with the other person that doesn't make your viewpoint better, it's just different. Stop blasting stats that you don't know, while others need to realize that stats aren't perfect. And yes, there is a nice median between the two that should keep most of us here happy.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Bull! This game has been a huge part of my life enough trust my judgement on what I see, the unmeaserable chemistry factor and watching the game itself being played. I have expressed many opinions over the years on soxtalk and I stand by my record of my words over your stats. I grant that your advanced stats give you a little, very little, insight to player evaluation. For you to come on here and say I have no idea of what I'm talking about because I don't happen to agree with your microscopic standard of player management is ridiculously short-sighted, at best. And, I'm being very restrained in my response to your arrogance. The arrogance on both sides will make this thread unbearable soon.
  18. Unless his market price has dropped dramatically, I don't see it happening.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) ADA for Granderson on wouldn't suck. Moving Gavin would become imperative though. ADA for Granderson would be terrible, you'd be downgrading OBP, getting older, more expensive, and on and on. With Rios you'd get rid of a long term commitment who has been incredibly inconsistent, while taking on more cash for this year only.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) Yuck... I just have zero faith in Rios being close to an .800 OPS player next season, I think we'll be lucky if he breaks .750.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) It would be stupid awesome if the Sox picked him up. Swap Rios with for him, no idea actually if that's a fair deal just popped in my head.
  22. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 08:13 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...50528170263-914 While I can see where Flowers is coming from, it is kind of an awkward thing to say you don't want AJ back. Anyone else bothered by this? If he said that he wanted AJ to come back and start you'd be up in arms as well. Kid wants to play, I love it.
  23. Lost a friend and HS baseball teammate today, 22 yrs old and died from brain cancer. Kid never got a break health wise. I'll never forget when we were playing our rivals and he broke his leg when rounding first base (terrible divot), he just fell and told the first base coach he broke his leg. Not one tear, didn't yell out, just took it.

Yea managing the food operations part is one thing, handling the financial operations part is another thing. You'll have to worry about procurement, waste, accounting, etc, all of which adds a lot of time you may not initially think about. A partner would be very wise, especially one that could handle those type of duties.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) If you're cutting taxes on 120k car purchases (volume, not price) , and increasing it on 5k car purchase, you're going to drop your tax revenue. I'm sure the vast majority of car purchases are under 20-25k. And when was the last time you looked at those cars? 22k will give you the absolute base 4 cylinder, 2wd type model with no features. Not to be a stickler, but you can get a well equipped Sonata for around that price because of their rebates.
