Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) $100k isn't what it used to be, especially living in Palo Alto...but it has to be awesome to get to work in that kind of corporate culture. That's an awesome opportunity. I have yet to see an offer that big for an undergrad student, and that was for their Chicago office, it would've been $130k for a California location. She also got $40k in stock options.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) That's excellent news. Always good to have options... On another note, should we maybe change the title of this thread to eliminate the years? I think there's some valuable information in here and it's not a terribly long thread, so it might be nice to keep this one going. Just a thought... Yea I'd like to keep it going, it's not terribly long at this point.

2012 Films Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) Well I have to admit, I have not seen In Bruges, so maybe that would change my mind about him. And both Farrell and Reeves do have a couple films I've seen where they fit nicely, but I can't take much of either one of them. After talking to some guys from Ireland, it sounds like Farrell does a much better acting job when he can speak in his native Irish accent. Though I thought he was decent in his role in Horrible Bosses.

2012 Films Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 06:34 AM) It's like the direct opposite of that "human croc" movie or the "shark attack" flick....from 2011. The main actor was a cross between Jack Black, John Daly and Seth Rogen. The blonde was a hottie too, the one who falls into the water and is "rescued/kidnapped." Had seen the other lead actor in a number of low-budget roles, the name doesn't come to mind but he looked familiar. Better than 90% of the spoof movies made in the last 2-3 years, that's for sure. The blonde was extremely hot. The main actor Ive heard is from Sons of Tucson, but not sure on that. The other one is Alan Tudyk, who was in Firefly, Death at a Funeral, Dollhouse, Dodgeball, A Knight's Tale and many other films and shows. I would compare it to "Snakes on a Plane" type movie, because you were always wondering how the next person was going to kill themselves, but more comedy in this one.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 07:33 AM) If we get Cespedes - it'll mean an outfield of Cespedes - Rios - Tank They'd say adios to DeAza if they signed Cespedes. If you mean adios as in cut De Aze than you are insane, from all accounts the Sox are relying pretty heavily on De Aza to be a big contributor this season and there is no way they would just cut him without giving him more playing time. Rios is owed a ton of money, so he won't get cut, but he most likely is a part time player this next season until he proves he can be useful again.

If you're into spoofs/parody of the murder/slasher genre, check out Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. My roommate and I watched it as a joke on Netflix then were cracking up throughout the movie.

Happy New Years!

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) For your sake, I hope you didn't suffer from drunken hook up failure. The girl I hooked up with had left already, these girls our friends with one of our roommates and were staying at our place.

Jason Frasor Traded to Jays
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) I don't understand picking up the option if you are planning on dumping him for basically nothing. At the very least, you are risking Frasor getting injured in the interim. The only thing that makes sense is something has now presented itself and the Sox wanted the extra cash to spend on that. If not, its a real head scratcher picking up his option in the first place. Because he just got a few more pitchers for him? Isn't it obvious that they felt they could trade him at some point and get some value out of him?

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) I'm just glad that those 100 pre-injury games can go to De Aza and Viciedo and we can finally start to see what those guys can do at the big league level. Very true, I meant to hint at that in my post.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) We mock the Cubs, but Sox fans might seriously have the lowest standards in baseball. I was fine with the Santos trade, but we will convince ourselves that any move was good. Oh well, it's New Years Eve. I'm going to go have fun and forget about baseball for a while. C'mon Milk, there wasn't anything out there for CQ really, it would be hard to "win" this trade just because you won't get a big name hot prospect for him. I'm just glad we finally aren't going to have to pay him $7 for 120 games on a losing team.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) ie: Sean Marshall Cubs got more for Marshall than Sox have for Quentin and Santos combined Veryyyy debatable. Wood is a very mediocre young starter, who showed almost nothing last season, I dont see him worth a whole lot, definitely not up to Molina's status. The other two guys are mediocre prospects as well; Sappelt is probably a 4th OF and Torreyes played at Low A and is a crapshoot (especially at his size).

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) The Braves had very little interest in Q last season.. From what I remember, KW was trying to convince them to take him on, not really the other way around.
-
Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) This wasn't rebuilding, it was a salary dump. Everyone around the majors seems to be getting tons in return when they trade away veteran players except the Sox. What are these trades you speak of!?

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) This ^^^^ Glad Kenny held on to him at deadline last year. GODDAMN!!! EFF ME...that's the best return you could get for Q?!?!?! I'm friggin pissed off right now! His value really isn't that high, don't be mad at KW for this, be mad at CQ for not staying healthy. You think a ton of teams will be lining up to take on that $7-8mm for an oft-injured, decent bat but below average defender corner OF? You guys are crazy if you expected anything special coming back.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) Isn't rebuilding grand? Oh please, this is not a rebuilding move, this is cutting some salary because the "All in" stance put us in financially tough position.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
Castro had been ranked by Baseball America as the #57 and #58 prospect going into 2010 and 2011 respectively. Must have some talent then, but still could be a project the way he struggled at AAA.
