  1. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) If we aren't going to bring people in to compete for this year than trade away some huge pieces like Floyd, Konerko, Alexei etc... I hate half ass jobs. There's no reason to keep AJ or Konerko on this team, if we aren't going to go for it. I agree with that, but the Sox don't. They are worried about selling tickets at the same time, I personally don't have to worry about losing money because the Sox suck. Trading away guys like Konerko after losing MB/Ozzie to the Marlins is too much for the average fan, too many people wouldn't show up. Although many fans only go to games when they are winning, there are plenty who will justify the expense of going because of certain players, even if that team is sucking.
  2. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Last place, 4th, 3rd ... does it really matter? It does for draft position, which will become highly important with the new CBA rules.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) So Rock what do you think the odds are that Illinois pulls off the upset tonight? I think it's going to take a career game from Leonard and either Brandon Paul or DJ Richardson. They also need to get the typical Big Ten home crowd officiating. I'm going with 72-57 OSU. One of those games where OSU is up 6-10 pts consistently, so I'll be teased for 2.5 hours into thinking that Illinois might make a run that never happens. I personally see a repeat of the Purdue game, down big and get back to a "respectable" amount to lose by.
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) KC is on the rise.. They have some very promising players, but they have a ton of holes too, especially with pitching.
  5. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) If you are happy about the Sox being the worst team in the AL Central ( as we stand right now) that's on you. I am hoping that KW finally brings people into this organzation on both the major league and minor league level. Yes, I love losing and hope we follow the direction of winning teams like KC. Right now the Sox are extremely less talented and productive overall compared to the Tigers, and the Tigers have legitimate prospects to trade for impact players. They are in a position to compete, we are not at this point. Wasting $10mm on role players on a .500 team is flat out stupid, which is why I think trading away any salary possible is smart at this point (guys like Ohman).
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) Which will land us in....last place. So why do you give a s***? IMO, he's just complaining to complain, no matter what KW does some fans will just hate on it. If KW went for it again this next season he would probably be complaining on how a real organization is run like the Cubs and Theo. He'd probably complain how the Sox signed a bad starting IF to sit on the bench and we should be looking to invest that money elsewhere. The grass is always greener on the side side type fan.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) Cause if we add pieces to the puzzle, we won't be finishing in last place. It bugs the hell out of me that KC & Minn can add pieces to their roster this off season and so far we haven't. None of the moves you suggest the Sox making will push them very far towards 1st place, just like the moves KC/Minn have made. You're complaining about trivial moves that may only improve the Sox's overall record by 1 or 2 wins, and that's it.
  8. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) As we stand right now, I see the Sox finishing in last place... My hope is to trade some huge pieces for top prospects So why are you so concerned over 6th inning pitchers and bench players?
  9. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) Nick Castellanos, Jacob Turner and Rizzo is a lot better than Molina & Castro. That trade has yet to happen, and most likely will only be Turner.
  10. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) There is some decent talent left in the free agent market for us to sign. I just hope KW starts bringing people in here SOON. Where do you realistically see this team ending the season? Wasting $10+mm on role players on a .500 team is pointless. The only reason to stock up on bullpen arms is to hope they deliver decent results and trade them at the deadline for a few 'spects.
  11. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) The same stuff was said about Konerko, when he was in the PCL. Okay great, now Rizzo=Konerko. There are a ton of examples of inflated prospects due to that league, and so far Rizzo hit like s*** in the bigs. It was a decent pickup for a rebuilding team to see what he can give you, but it's not like he's a cant miss stud.
  12. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) The team on the north side looks to be bringing in 2-3 top 100 prospects in baseball.. Their best prospect in return is Rizzo and he got exposed big time in the bigs, and could very well be a product of a hitter friendly PCL. No one else they got is rated all that highly, intriguing but nothing great. To bring in that return they'd have to trade Garza, and so far no one has paid the price they are looking for.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) We've 2 holes on our bench as we stand right now.. In a year considered rebuilding, these types of spots will be filled by youngsters or a late vet signing to help coach some younger guys (think Vizquel). Why waste money on guys that may give you a few hundred ABs on a non competitive team? Your concerns make no sense.
  14. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) I am more worried about our bullpen situation. We could possibly have 3-4 holes in the pen, cause Ohman is worthless. If any of our pitching gets injured, we are totally screwed. We just don't have the resources in the minors to replace people. I hope KW starts bringing people into this organzation Our deepest minor league position is reliever, we actually have quite a few interesting possibilities going into spring training, especially from the recent trades. And why worry so much about a bullpen for a very likely under .500 team?
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) Kept flashing people for beads? Ive seen plenty of guys get arrested for stuff like that when I was in New Orleans, of course girls do it right before and after those guys get arrested (for whatever the did, flashing, throwing up, etc) and everyone would just cheer. QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 07:39 AM) As much as people on this board have maligned Season 2 of The Walking Dead (and rightly so) i found this......... includes a letter from Frank Darabont and an interview with Sam Witwer. The interview was especially telling as he talks about how Season 2 opener was going to be (awesome!!!). It does make me hate AMC that much more....... Ain't it cool news--TWD How the f*** could they stop an idea like this!? You start the 2nd season with an episode like that and EVERYTHING changes, I mean that show would have trouble from too many viewers! QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Holy Awesome, Batman! Paul Rudd joining cast of Parks & Rec as Poehlers opponent for City Council. And this is fantastic news, I love me some Rudd and he seems to be a perfect fit for a cast like that.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) This entire post is a disgrace, if nothing else, for the unintentional irony involved here. I was hoping someone else would pick up on the "losers on a message board complaining" irony too.
  18. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) Ya I didn't call him a disgrace as a person. He's a disgrace as a player because he was just released due to his awful performance as a player. I'm sure he's a nice guy. Who is a disgrace is some losers who sit on a message board and get offended and call people names when a guy who sucks at his job is called a disgrace, which he is as far as baseball goes, which is what I was saying. Lighten up Francis. Oh please, the way you stated it made it look blatantly like you were calling him personally a disgrace. I know we get a lot of exposure on this site, including Teahen's wife, and stating things the way you did makes this whole board look bad (not to mention Sox fans in general). You were the one who typed that post that way, not my fault, and sorry for defending good people, I know that's such a bad thing to do.
  19. You calling Teahen a disgrace is a disgrace. Not a good ballplayer but from all accounts he is an awesome human being.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) Didn't want to hear that. Was thinking about going Wed afternoon. If you've read the book it helps, but I hadn't and I was trying to puzzle everything together for the first 3/4 of the movie. It was incredibly frustrating to have one character introduced for about 1 min then disappear for 30 mins. My dad knew the characters but even then said the movie didn't do a good enough job in areas that made the book great.
  21. bigruss replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
Saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy today, and I was pretty disappointed in it. It's one of my dad's favorite books but this adaptation was pretty weak imo, the biggest weakness was the sheer amount of characters being introduced in the beginning without much detail on any of them.
  22. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:24 PM) We had Santos as a low price for long period of time. Santos is making $1M in 2012. Molina is going to have be a solid front line starter to make that a fair trade. Closers are only useful when you have pitchers that will keep you in the game until you get to them. Starters are immensely more valuable to a team than closers, a mediocre starter will be worth an elite closer fairly easily.
  23. Best Buy won't even pricematch Fry's or Frys.com, at least the one near me in the NW burbs. I've bought one thing from them in the past 7 years, and that was a tv stand that was on clearance at the store and actually was a decent price.
  24. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:07 PM) I am worried about the bullpen. This might be our worst bullpen since 2007. No clear closer. I think that KW has to try to sign another veteran RH reliever. I really wish that we held onto Santos. Do you not realize the direction this team is taking next season? If anything, it's smart for KW to unload all of our relievers for whatever value we can get for them, whether now or at the deadline.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) I guarantee the White Sox were never not giving back with things such as this. I agree that they probably never stopped, but it's nice to have the focus back on this stuff and not internal feuds or s***ty twitter fights.
