QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Why? Michigan is a better team then MSU. Just not used to Michigan actually keeping it up this late in a season, and even if MSU was worse it's weird to see them go down twice to UMich.

Glad everyone survived that draft. And I feel weak at 3B, LF, RF, so feel free to offer some trades. I am willing to trade a RP or two if necessary, even though you need 6 of those guys lol.

Was this the worst year to expand the tournament or what, honestly the field is pretty pathetic.

I wouldn't say easily, but the field is pretty weak this year. It would look pretty bad if the Illini fall in th first round of the Big Ten, and not having 20 wins, which does hurt a team's image imo, definitely sets them back a bit.

I actually love that, not only do I share the same stance with athletes screwing up their future by being around s*** like that, but also the fact that the parent is blaming his kid for the situation, and not everyone else. I love that the Dad knew that no matter what, it was up to the kid to avoid being in that situation, and he didn't do it, and therefore he wasn't going to get a free pass from him.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) As a bitter & soon to be former Xbox owner, it's more than that. Everyone I know that's owned a PS3, 0 problems. I've had to send in my Xbox 3 times since getting it back in '07. I've known of other people having to send theirs in more than once in that same time period. Had to send mine in about a year after I got it because it wouldnt read any disc, apparently a common problem with the model I had. They atleast gave me a free month of Live, of course it took a month to get it fixed and sent back.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) This is HS, but wow this is terrible. http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/michi...30311?GT1=39002 Wow, 16 years old, absolutely ridiculous and incredibly sad. That area is closer to Chicago than Detroit too, Ive spent many summers in that area and my brother works in Bridgman, where the opposing team is from, and that's only about 20 miles past the Indiana/Michigan border.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) It's hard, because most people who fill out such surveys lie...which can mess up the entire comparison process. The best way I've found is to have friends in the industry who will tell you what they make, etc...it's really REALLY hard to get a real answer on what a going rate is...because it depends on far too many factors. Yea, I have some resources from U of I that tell me the median of what my major makes, I guess I can go off of that but it's a relatively small major (Information Systems/Information Technology through the Business Admin department) but that makes it harder since I don't have too many friends in the field that just graduated and are in the area that Im going into. I have a lot of friends in consulting but basically none that went right into an IT department, and I don't feel comfortable or feel it would be right at all to ask some coworkers from my internship what they made out of college (they are about 1-3 years out of school) since I would be working with them and I grew up with the rule that you don't ask how much someone makes (even though I don't have a problem telling someone who asks politely).

Does anybody have a good resource for salary comparisons? I know of glassdoor.com, but it's not always a great site for research. How would you guys go about researching salaries?

Investing Thread
Would it be smarter for me to invest this money in about a month (I should receive it sometime this month) or would it be best to wait until I am working fulltime after college and putting it into a 401k plan. I am going into a second internship with a company that I really enjoyed working for and I am almost positive that I will leave this summer with a competitive offer so Im wondering if it would be best to wait on investing about a year, and put it into CDs or some stable stock with good dividends. Or is it best to have both accounts to be diverse? I am pretty lost when it comes to investing in mutual funds, ETFs, 401ks, etc, and Im not sure on the tax implications which is why I am asking. So if anybody has some good articles or resources on this matter that would be awesome to have a look at. Im looking to have about 10-11k total to invest after this income and my summer internship (planning on investing atleast 15% of my wages) and I really want to be prepared for when I do so.

Everyone loves it but me
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) This is more true than you may want to believe. This is the reason for scholastic organizations, job fairs, and networking sessions. To get to a high level within the real world, no matter your profession, you really need to know people and to have their trust. Sure, some of it will be proving what you know, but when you get to a certain level of the professional world, when comparing two equal candidates, the one who is more well known within the company by anybody - whether it through a connection of another company or within the company itself - is going to get that job. I can tell you one thing, I am dealing with it right now. I am more than qualified for an entry level job in the business world, but because I really don't have any good connections, I have struggled getting a job to the point where I am just looking for any job because I need money. If I planned on being in Bismarck for longer than 6 months, there would be several professional organizations I would try to get involved in. However, I don't plan on being in Bismarck long, so at this point it's getting a job that has some intrinsic value (looking at being a server at a restaurant, where I will at least be able to get some type of customer service experience on my resume, though I have several other outstanding applications to businesses around the area) so I can have at least some money when I do eventually move away. Agreed, especially in a tough job market. Personally I got my first internship through the company my dad worked for, and when I applied the next year for my next internship the company I was interviewing for turned out to be the company that my manager had worked at for 17 years. Now, this didn't get me the internship, but it probably helped through the process (I had excellent interviews through too though). My number one recommendation for those looking into business in college is to join a business organization, such as a business fraternity, since you gain a huge alumni network among the many other perks.

Overmatched by Green Eggs and Ham
I know quite a few people who picked up hitting lefty because it helped with their mechanics. They were able to teach their body the correct way to swing from the left side and it would either be a fresh break from the wrong mechanics from the right side or would help them get over bad mechanics.

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Any other losers watching the NFL combine? Surprises for me so far ( Big Ten focused): Martez Wilson ran a 4.44-Wow 3 Big Ten LB in the top 10 40 times for LB (1 SEC, southern speed) Chekwa ran a 4.3 Dane Sanzenbacher showed more speed than I thought, top guy in the cone drill ran 4.5 40 Boren outlifted by several smaller guys I think Wilson will be a very good pro in 2-3 years, he really seemed to struggle mentally his first two years with the Illini than last year he matured a lot. If he can learn the game and anticipate better and not just rely on his freakish athleticism he could be dominating.
