QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) I don't really care how much success he has at KSU. He just couldn't cut it at illinois. Michael Orris and Jalen James would have been part of the backcourt next year instead of Starks, Cosby, or Nunn. Yea no way that would've cut it at Illinois. I'm not a Weber apologist but he deserves kudos for the turn around they've had thus far this year. I love Groce, I think he was a tremendous hire, but he needs to learn how to coach/win in conference play. I think he'll be a great recruiter and he's shown he coach in the tourney, but for whatever reason his teams just do not perform well in conference play.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Weber has done an incredible job so far at KSU. That roster this year looked absolutely horrendous but they will probably be dancing barring a big collapse. It sucks to see we likely won't be with a much better roster but neither here nor there. Well this year our roster is pretty bad, just way too much turnover to have a real legitimate chance to compete (and none of the freshmen are stepping up to be big time contributors at this point). Going forward we will be much more talented then KSU.

I was at the gym last night during the end of the KSU/Texas game. Just terrible defense by KSU and a sweet stroke by that Texas player to win the game with under 2 seconds left. I gotta give Bruce props, I would've figured his team had a 0% chance of being ranked this season after the first few weeks of the season.

Non-Roster Invites
Zach Putnam, awesome. I went to high school with the guy (I was a freshman when he was a senior). It would be great (for me) to see him on the squad at some point this year.

The Humility thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) He was my second favorite prospect ever after Reed. He was fun to watch. I was right about him though. (and I'm sure others here were as well, namely JPN) Just thought that Swisher deal was a win-win for both teams.. whoops. I remember some didn't want to see Clayton Richard traded. Remember the poster who commented after like 3 or 4 shutout innings from Richard that he was making Buehrle's contract look bad? lolz

Dan Hudson trade, I HATED it. Back in high school (when I lived in Michigan) I would read all the fluff pieces on whitesox.com and really believe them. It's all I had

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) I've been to a game at NU. Their gym is a lot like the bigger Indiana HS gyms. Yea my dad and I were bashing the gym, the lack of NU fans, the NU uniforms....oops. NU wanted that game more. Every Illini fan there was eager to cheer for something, they didn't give us much to cheer for though.

Going back to Europe with a bunch of friends in May, it's going to be an absolute blast. Anyone have suggestions for international credit cards? I signed up for Chase Sapphire to replace my Freedom card since it actually has the chip inside so I can use it abroad, but it doesn't have a pincode. What this means is that when I'm at a train station I can't use the kiosk to buy a ticket since it requires a pin (most everywhere uses chip/pin as authorization for the card, US uses chip/signature at most).

I was at the Illinois-NU game, man was that a terrible few hours of my life. Cramped in the bleachers, sorry ass basketball, and walk away with a loss. Gotta find an upset somewhere now and still get to 9 wins in the Big Ten, but looking more like an NIT trip now. It's disappointing, but honestly this team isn't talented/experienced enough, and we knew that going into the season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Edzo's Burgers. I loved 5 Guys until I hit this place. It makes 5 Guys seem like Mickey D's. The original is in Evanston. The newer one is at Lincoln and Webster. I kept seeing that pop up on yelp, I'll have to check it out.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) After receiving yet another raise today, I now officially make double what I did a year ago. It's weird. After having a budget always and forever, I just find myself with more cash than I could imagine spending. That's with a huge savings account. Adulthood. Awesome. Dude youre on a roll, very nice!

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Very nice. I take it you accepted it then? Hope you can get that pool now, Clark! I didn't really have much of a say, but we've been working on getting me to that level for the past 6 months or so. It's pretty much been my first career goal since starting out of college about a year and a half ago. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Congrats! Thanks!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) Congrats Russ! I'm sure you are well-deserving! What's the new position? Thanks! Security Support Analyst II, so moved up a level. Should be a great new challenge, level I is pretty much just keeping the lights on type stuff. Level II is actually building new systems or working on automating/eliminating tier I work. I've never worked harder for something in my life so it felt really good to get recognized for it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) After Nunn's "incidental" contact. Yea Nunn got away easy on that call, he maybe should've gotten a flagrant for that. However, love the toughness of the freshman in that game. They didn't back down but also didn't instigate farther when they could've easily. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 06:45 PM) 2 open scholarships but I would guess they would take 3 more if it is the right 3 (i.e. Charles Matthews). They will want a PG and big with the 2 open ships and would obviously take Matthews as well. Yup, Matthews has to be target #1 imo (Brunson would be right there if we had any chance). After that we need a big, someone like Moore, Thomas, Bragg, or this Sharma kid would be great to balance out the class.

Corporate Profits vs Hiring
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Wait, I've only been in a Costco to take a dump after I realized you need some membership thing to buy stuff. Do they actually pay the customer? Like, how does that work? How much longer are they going to remain in business? I'm guessing you meant employees but now I'm not so sure. Yup just a typo, long day at work.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) If they pay customers, I'm buying. It's part of the reason why I try to shop at Costco.

Corporate Profits vs Hiring
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I work for a company who's marketing department is the dude who puts the logo on trailers. We do just fine. Maybe that's because shippers aren't going to be brainwashed into spending twice the money on an identical product by TV. Marketing, aside from government, is the biggest f***ing waste of money I've ever seen and I do my best to avoid companies I see on TV and in ads because I know the cost of trying to trick me into buying their product is built in to the price of the crap I'm trying to buy. I still sometimes have to eat McDonalds or buy some crap at Target due to major geographic and parking (76 feet long don't park good) limitations but I'm generally proud of the job I do avoiding that crap. If it were a matter of "we charge more because we pay our employees money" I'd be a lot more receptive to buying the s***. What about companies who sell marketed products but pay employees more?

Technology catch-all thread
Anybody have advice for a good receiver? I've had too many issues with my cheap Sony one and I think it's time for an upgrade. I don't need anything crazy, something midtier ($400 limit, would be nice if it was cheaper). So far I'm looking at this guy: Yamaha Receiver

How a Woman Wants a Man to Smell
Nautica Voyage is my daily go to cologne, really cheap on amazon but gives a nice fragrance that doesn't overwhelm. I get a lot of compliments on it. The other cologne I prefer is HeWood Dsquared2, it's a bit heavier and better for the winter months, but I use it much more sparingly.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) Just applied for a job that will double my current pay and I'd be doing pretty much the same thing I do now but actually less work overall. My close friend has a very good relationship with the hiring manager so hoping that goes a long way in getting me an interview and eventually the job. Only downfall is I live in Schaumburg and the job is in Minooka while my current job is 10 minutes away. Probably won't hear anything till after holidays but given how much I hate my current job really hoping this ends up happening. Would it happen to be at Grainger?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) Me too...although now that we're under Berkshire Hathaway, who knows how long that will last... Ha my company has been rumored these past few years as a target of Berkshire/Buffet. I doubt it ever happens now, we were much more attractive a few years ago before our stock soared. Man I wish I could have a 5 mile commute, currently at about 25 miles each way...
