QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Gotta love Oz, says AJ is crybaby; says he wants to kill Garcia in early innings. Likeable Oz pushing the right buttons! I missed something - what are you referring to (I know someone else mentioned it as well, but I don't know what it was referring to).

Charges Dropped Against Father In Riley Fox Murder
Queen Prawn replied to Queen Prawn's topic in SLaM
Yeah, I saw it when I read the Southtown this morning. -
Freddie's old band is too busy impersonating their former selves. Anywho, the rats keep begging for some tunes to "wheel" to, but until I pony up the dough for one for me, no IPOD for them.

Charges Dropped Against Father In Riley Fox Murder CHICAGO -- Charges have been dropped against a man accused of murdering his 3-year-old daughter. Kevin Fox was released from jail Friday afternoon after spending nearly 8 months behind bars, Jacobson reported. Fox was accused in the sexual assault and killing of his daughter, Riley, whose body was found in a creek near her Wilmington home in June 2004. Fox said he was coerced into confessing to the crime. The charges were dropped at a courtroom hearing Friday. Fox's attorney appeared filed a motion Friday morning to present new DNA evidence in the case that cleared Fox, Jacobson reported. "I don't even know what to think," Fox told reporters as he left jail. "I'm happy. I'm excited." When asked what he planned to do on Friday, Fox said he would, "spend the night with my wife and son." "I dreamed [of being set free] every night -- every single night." "We knew that he didn't do anything wrong, and we knew that would eventually come out," said Fox's wife, Melissa. "Kevin's the best dad in the world," said one man through tears. "He's been in that place [jail] too long. He was railroaded." The current Will County State's attorney said Friday that the past administration made crucial errors in the murder investigation of Riley Fox. NBC5's Amy Jacobson reported that current Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow blamed the previous administration for sitting on the evidence, and not processing the DNA. More than a year ago, the DNA evidence taken from the crime scene and from Riley Fox's body was taken to the FBI lab in Quantico, Va. Nothing was ever done with it. "Your assistant state's attorneys should know, 'Hey, this is an unreasonable delay -- we need to find out from the FBI that they've a nine-month backlog and let's get it somewhere where it can be tested, because public safety is at stake," he said. Defense attorneys said prosecutors should have had the results in hand before taking action. "If you want to take away one thought in this case, it's do the test before you make the arrest," said attorney Kathleen Zellner. Meanwhile, Fox's friends and family said they were overjoyed that he had been freed. "I'm his big brother, and it's just a natural instinct to want to protect your baby brother," said Chad Fox. "That's what I felt like I had to do." Fox's neighbors said they never doubted his innocence, NBC5's Phil Rogers reported. "Somebody's screwing up," said one man. "I still believe it was a political move." Two weeks ago, the court honored attorney Zellner's request to take DNA samples from the accused man for comparison to those taken from the girl's body. "We knew Kevin, Melissa and the family," said neighbor Christy Ziller. "We're a deep-rooted community, and we've always believed it [Kevin Fox's innocence]. No matter what anyone else wants to turn [it into] or change a story or put their twist on it, we always knew the core truth. That we'd look into his eyes, his parents, Melissa, the kids whenever they'd run around and play. We could just see it in their eyes -- there is no way they could have done this." Attorneys for Fox have filed civil rights lawsuits against the Will County Sheriff's Department and former county State's Attorney Jeff Tomczak. **************************************************************** I can't understand how they had this guy in prison so long and didn't do a DNA test until the defnse attorney had one. That state's attorney should be fired immediatly. for the Kevin Fox and his family so they can properly grieve and find the scum that did that to his daughter.

SALARY CAP AGREED ON FOR NHL!

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) It's tough to be defensive oriented when the top D-men are all aging veterans like Hedican, Wesley and Ward. Just not the type of players who can go for 82 games and be expected to hold opponents to 2 or less a game. Especially with Gerber in the nets. That's what exactly was said a few years ago (more like never has beens and never will bes is what they were called) when they did. Look, I am not saying the definitely are (more just funning around with kap and Mike), but they are not nearly as bad as people here seem to like to make them be. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) That and the Kevin Weekes factor Sorry, I'll stop now. Actually he was a saving grace for them that year in the playoffs, I'll never deny that. -
You'd think being in charge of a state that he would have more pressing matters to attend to...let the woman rest in peace already.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) The Canes are an average at best team, not to get on Queen's bad side, but Martin Gerber is not a good goalie. The offense will struggle except for maybe Eric Staal and a healthy Brind'Amour. They have never been a strong offensive team - their game has been defense - that's how they got to the finals a few years back. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) The thing is Carolina has not done a thing to improve. Let's see what shakes out after 2/3 of the players shuffle around. Actually at the end of the last season played, they had a lot of younger players show they could get it done as well as the fact they have the upgraded coach. heck when they got in a few years ago, no one thought they were going to make the playoffs much less the finals. KW isn't on the canes any longer so that is addition by subtraction :finger - can't remember where he went and Archie is with the Columbus Blue Jackets so I have to cheer for them as well. -

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) What other shortstops besides Uribe and Valentin did he play with. If the Choice is the best one, then i would not like to see that list. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Paul play with Barry Larkin while Paul was in Cincinatti. When he was with Cincy he played in all of 26 games - is that long enough to really get a feel for a fellow infielder (asking as I never played a team sport)? I have to say that it floors me how people love to put words in other peoples' mouths around here. He has played with Uribe, Valentin and Clayton as regular shortstops - who, defensively, would you rank as tops there? With Valentin - Konerko had to practically be an acrobat to make some of those digs and catches. I like Uribe, but he doesn't stand out as a good defensive ss. Does Clayton have the personality of dirt? Yeah, but you can say that about many players through the years of professional baseball.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) IIRC that was down near southern Illinois and that the wave wasn't able to be felt my people. I remember my cats went nuts though. My hamsters weren't very happy right before either.

Have we yet had a Konerko thread that didn't either end up about Thomas or completely off track? (Sorry, I had to ask and yes I was laughing by the end of reading this thread - I needed a laugh after how busy it has been today).

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Olbermann takes on the Shiavo autopsy. Lots of vid clips of some pretty nutty statements made by certain people and the Schindlers' attorney tries to spin the autopsy results -- the Schindlers are going to more doctors and are planning to sue again. They need to let this go.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) They talked in the article about all of the different things they did to it. It is basically a piecemeal of other shuttles parts right now. And for the sake of the astronauts, I hope those pieces are in tip top shape. I am excited about this, but nervous at the same time.

One thing that I see mis-stated often is that the jury declared Jackson "innocent." No, he was declared not guilty - they are not the same thing.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Minooka... isn't that a small Mediterranean island off of eastern Spain? That's a heckuva drive to Alsip. Lol! Go west down 80 and take the exit after I-55. You have now entered the bustling metropolis of downtown Minooka. Actually, I liked it out there in the corn and soy and whatever the heck else was being grown (rusty cars, etc).

Neither was I - I was out helping get a car from Minooka to Alsip lol.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Would of ,could of still not guilty verdict Cali-style From what I understand about the Blake trial, the prosecution did an absolutely horrible job.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) Now put the dumb ass parents that drove victims to Neverland Ranch on trial. ANy parent after his that allows their child to anytime, supervised, unsupervised, it doesn't matter, with Jackson deserves to be locked up. Exactly right.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you were jurors before? If you were, how many were on molestation cases? I was on one about a month or two ago. It's not fun and no matter how you decide you agonize over it - I still do.
