QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Undocumented Worker Statistics to chew on. More than half of hispanic adult immigrants in this country less than 10 years make under $350 a week. My mom is Polish and my dad is Irish (from the old sod) and $350 is fairly close to their weekly pay. Mom is a CS rep and dad is a janitor.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) I hate this, and I'm going to get labled, but screw it. YOU ARE HERE ILLEGALY, STFU, GO HOME, AND COME BACK LEGALLY!! Rights my ass. You don't have any unless you do it the right way. I gotta agree. I figure if my numbnut father (my dad is the first person to admit to his numbnuttiness lol) can get here legally and follow the rules to be able to stay (there were some hairy moments in the beginning), anyone can.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Is the kid going to cooperate and tell the cops who he sold them to, or is he going to refuse to cooperate with the cops? If he refuses to cooperate, then jail time should be an option. Agree 100% on this aspect.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) I'll add one twisting question to further the discussion. Sometime later, after this thread has been talked out, I'll reveal what actually happened. Question: Since the majority here seem to think that jail time isn't warranted, I have to then ask... what about the guy who dealt marijuana? Or the one who purchased a handgun illegally? These are similar-level crimes, and most of the time, those offenders would go to jail. But those crimes are also more often commited by people less fortunate. Does anyone see the potential quagmire here with the rich kid at the private college getting off, but the punk on the street going to jail? I am not endorsing one view or the other - just pointing out the incongruity there, and seeing what you all think. If it was just maryjane he was selling, again community service and probation (jail cells are at too much of a premium to waste on some dude selling weed). The handgun...not 100% sure on what I think. It seems if it is being attained illegally, he isn't likely getting it just for target practice. Just for that reason, I would say a little jail time (30-90 days maybe), some probation and community service. Did I pass?

The child. Why? Two reasons. One, from what I can remember from high school biology, the pain receptors do not develop for some time after conception (it's been 15 years since that class so bear with me if I screwed that up) and the 2 year old obviously already has pain receptors. Two, the kid is already here; a definite where there are no guarantees that the fertilized eggs would successfully inplant, grown to be a full-term baby and be birthed alive. On the abortion issue, I, myself do not believe in it and likely could never go through with one, but I am not about to stop a woman who is okay with it from having one. (I do believe that abortion is completely acceptable in cases of rape and incest.)

Since he is a first time offender and identities were not stolen when making the fakes, I would shoot for misdemeanors with a TON of community service and a couple years (2-5?) probation. As for the users of the IDs, if it is a first time offense, charge them as well with a misdemeanor (is that what it would be for a fake ID user?) but with a lighter sentence than the ID maker.
-
Quick question, were the fake IDs made with real people's information or were they complete fakes?

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) second column after their name - 'starts'. should say 0/9, 1/9, 2/9, etc. ... I have to be more cognizant of that this year as I used a guy almost all of the allotted 9 times before the half way point lol.

I don't see how dropping pills into someone's drink can be funny. Yeah, he might get a woody, but there are other things that could happen especially if this kid is already on some sort of prescription.

I was glad to see the Canes picking up someone to help the team down the home stretch with the loss of Cole.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Read what The Museum Of Hoaxes has to say about that famous picture: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/nessie.html Discovery did a show where they talked to the guy that took the infamous picture. It was interesting to say the least.

That was a good episode of Futurama.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) The bean counters, rather than the doctors, are deciding what is a necessary procedure. But when you see my daughter struggling to read because she has one eye not playing nice with the other and inverting letters, etc., you know damn well that she has a medical need. So we're shelling out about half my wife's takehome pay for 14 weeks to get her the treatment she needs because Blue Cross considers it elective therapy now. Sounds like the therapy my brother had for several years - it does get expensive. I have yet to get my knee checked out because of the BS I went through with the doctors when I was 18. I just don't want to hear "live with the pain" then go through a physical for a job and have the doctor tell me I need care so I don't cripple myself. insurance companies ->

Reports from Raleigh say that the guy got a 3 game suspension.

Canes win tonight 2-1.

RIP Kirby. Strokes f***ing suck.

He came from behind and left his feet to make the hit. The guy that made the hit did the same thing to a player in the AHL (can't remember against who). I saw a video of the hit (from the Pittsburgh sports report) and it looked painful.

Happy bday!!

The time frame seems to vary on who wrote the article. In Raleigh, they are reporting a minimum of 2 months, so we will see.

Hurricanes' Cole to miss 6-to-8 weeks with fractured vertebra PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Carolina left wing Erik Cole will miss at least the rest of the regular season with a compression fracture in a vertebra in his neck caused when he was driven headfirst into the boards by Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik during a 7-5 Hurricanes victory Saturday night. Cole, tied for second on the team in scoring, will be out at least 6-to-8 weeks -- a major loss for what currently is the team with the NHL's best record. The Hurricanes have not ruled out Cole returning for the playoffs, which begin in mid-April. More at the link. ******************************************************* This really sucks, I hope the Canes can go on without him. First and foremost, I hope Cole heals. Secondly, I cannot wait to see him back on this ice - he is a fun player to watch.

QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) It i suspicious that all these kids fled the country, kind of showing they maybe guilty, but the prosecution didn't do their job. I've wondered that myself. I wonder if they can look in the mirror after all this.

How can it be "legal" consent since she was 16 and well under the influence of something (alcohol/drugs/etc)?

QUOTE(G&T @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Actually, I would love to find out how our celebration turned into what it is. What are the chances it was the Irish themselves who made it this way? From Wikipedia: Given the time, I doubt it was any Brit that owned the tavern, since they wouldn't celebrate an Irish holiday, and there's no mention of what they did for that celebration. I know it seems like they probably just drank, but the tavern could also have been used as a gathering place for Irish people in the area for a small religious ceremony. This is about all I can find on it, but I can't find who the owners of that tavern were. Nevertheless, I wouldn't jump to conclusions that Americans are to blame for what St. Patrick's Day has become. It could have been Irish bar owners looking to make a profit. But I have no proof of that either. Not sure where the hell you got that I was blaming the Brits . All I mentioned is that what goes on here was nothing like what my dad experienced back home and I mentioned that it has been changing there as well. Sorry, but I will take my dad's (as well as Gramma's and Grampa's) word over an online encyclopedia.

My dad (who is from Ireland) doesn't get the way this country "celebrates" St Patrick's day. When he lived in Ireland it was a day of visiting with family and friends as well as prayer. He says it has started to become more secular in Ireland as well (at least in the big cities - the smaller towns, like where he lived, it is still a religious celebration).
