.730 OPS a big season of meh for Uribe...an average south of .240, an OBP south of .300.

So I had a mole removed like 2 weeks ago, just because it was funny looking. Everything went fine in getting it removed, got stitched back up and was on my way out. I went in today to get my stitches taken out and finally be done with stitches on my back...no chance. Of course I go in to the doctor telling me my mole was a severe melanocytic atypia, meaning it was nearly melanoma, so of course he had to cut around the area again and of course I get stitches on my back for another 10 days, this time more of them. yay, i love stitches.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) Sportswriters (and basically anyone else who thinks McGwire doesn't deserve enshrinement) are f***ing hypocrites. Just curious, why? Should Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry get in the Hall of Fame because of cocaine use too? -
Gwynn and Ripken are HOF class of 2007

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) The character thing is interesting. There's a lot of different ways that can go: Puckett was loved by the media and was a pretty bad person off the field. Belle was hated by the media and was a pretty bad person off the field. Frank seems to be the opposite of Puckett. Very much. There was also a respect for Puckett from nearly everyone in the MLB. I don't know how many MLB players I have heard talk about Puckett's smile, his intensity, and love of the game, and never was it with any negative conotations. Meanwhile, there is Albert Belle who tried to run some kids over, flipped off the crowd, and was caught with a corked bat. It's about the way a player handles himself on the field as well. I've never felt longevity is an aspect a HoFer must have. If so, Orel would be moving on to the next ballot and Blyleven would have been in 10 years ago. What must be present is dominance - being one of the best for quite a stretch of years - along with the final numbers "requirement" met (having met well-known milestones, such as 400 or 500 homers, 2000 or 3000 hits, or a World Series ring or two. Puckett had 2 of the 3, along with a near .320 career average, while Belle had only come close). It's also why Thomas is a lock for the Hall of Fame at this point. -

Albert Belle 19 3.5 That surprises the hell out of me. Belle's s***ty attitude keeps him out, because it sure as hell isn't the numbers. 373 homers and 1673 hits in 10 years are both pretty impressive, and a .933 OPS to boot as well. Jose Canseco 6 1.1 That has to be the lowest number and percentage of votes for a player with as many career homers as Canseco has. My twisted side really can't wait to see how many votes Palmeiro gets, because I imagine it could be similar to Canseco's. Eric Davis 3 0.6 That's a lot of talent that got wasted. I can only imagine how ridiculously good he looked coming up. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) Papelbon should stay the closer and Javier Lopez should stay in relief instead of signing Pinero. Matsuzaka Beckett Clement Schilling Wakefield What's the problem? Clement does indeed suck that much. Kinda of funny looking back on that FA market and some of the names the Sox were connected to - offhand, I know there was Wright and Clement atleast, and I'm sure there were a few others as well - and the Sox ended up "settling" for Duque on a 2 year deal for $8 million. Turned out to be a pretty good deal all in all for the Sox.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I just got my Buehrle jersey back from being numbered and lettered.... but I think the White Sox need to trade him and Vazquez and finish building for the future. We are an 83-87 game winner right now. I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise with Vaz in the 4-slot and a cast of thousands in the 5-slot. Sure, we still have a great lineup and we have a great bullpen, but the winner of this division the last several years has had starting pitching as its major strength. Can you really count on Contreras having another great year at his age and with his injury history? Can we really count on Garland to carry us again? Can we really count on Buehrle to rebound? These are all HUGE contigencies. Even if all three go as well as possible there is still the question of Vazquez and Floyd/Sisco/whoever. In any case, we are NOT signing Buehrle to a five or six year contract. Reinsdorf has never done it, and he will not do it now. So why not get something for him? You're not getting enough for him midseason. Additionally, Vazquez still has value in the NL. I would HATE to see Buehrle go but I think it makes the most sense with the moves we have already made. Uh, why stockpile more arms when you already have enough? It doesn't make much sense. By my count, the Sox have like 8-9 potential 5th starters right now within the organization, and some of those starters have the potential to become pretty damn good pitchers. Why would you kill any chance the team has this season when you wouldn't be able to contend until like 2009 again (because trading Buehrle and Vazquez would do exactly that to you)? I also think the team is better than most people give it credit for, but I am generally pretty optimistic around this time of year. The offense should be about as good as it was last year, or perhaps a small step back (I see Thome, Dye, and Crede all regressing a little bit, with Podsednik, Pierzynski, Uribe, and Anderson all improving slightly), but it should be more balanced 1-9 this year. The rotation will be fine, because you need 1 of the aforementioned 8-9 starters to put up an ERA in the 5.00 range, and the 1-4 starters essentially just need to put up a combined ERA in the 4.25 range. Hopefully we'll see them pick it up a little bit. The bullpen itself seems to just be loaded with talent, but not many results. There are only like 4 guys who have guaranteed jobs (Jenks, Thornton, MacDougal, and Aardsma), but one of Sisco and Logan should make it, and then you're looking at Floyd, Masset, Haeger, Oneli Perez, and several other candiates for the final spot in the bullpen. It's probably going to be Sisco/Masset with Floyd taking the #5 spot, but that's why ST is played. Basically, I don't think this team is an 83-87 win team, but rather 87-92 win team with potential to be better.

I'm really just wondering what the overall response would be if I were to name Ellen Degeneres.
-
People want to see if Buehrle will rebound before even contemplating offering him a contract extension, but what has seemingly gone unrealized is that if he does in fact rebound to a 17 win, 3.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 240 IP season, the negotiations start at 6/$96. If he has a bad year...say 12, 5.00, 1.40, 200...and he is probably getting 4/$52. If the Sox were to make such a signing, they'd be investing $52 million into a pitcher who'd put up an ERA of 5.00 two seasons in a row. Bit of a catch-22 this situation is.

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Maybe you think its a common misconception but BA did show plenty of improvement the second half. Here are some of his splits. Batting Avg. by month March/April .161 May .167 June .196 July .313 August .296 Sept./Oct. .200 Before the All-Star break .192 After the All-Star break .257 He had approx. the same number of AB's before and after the AS break. Judging by theses stats ( and I know things don't always go the way we want) I'd have to say BA is capable of hitting .250-.260 over the course of a season. That's not unrealistic expectations. More often then not, the first time you have sex, you suck; the more you do it, the better you get at it. But improvement doesn't equal quality, it just means you're better than bad. Whoop-dee-s***. In this instance, Brian's still inexperienced, but he's atleast lost his virginity. Pretty simple, really. All 3E8 was trying to say was that it was essentially impossible for him not to improve, and that his improvement doesn't mean he's good or that he's going to be good next year. To expect a .270 average due to a .257 second half average is a bit too optimistic. Though, on the other hand, it's not too unreasonable to figure that he very well could put up a .270 average. It's just not bloody likely.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 06:09 AM) Podsednik might not have alot of value in the eyes of sox fans, but i think two years of Podsednik at around 7mil total is a reasonable deal for a B lvl SP spec that has a checkered injury past and a 1B who hasn't moved above A. Scott would certainly be better than Terrmel Sledge & Jose Cruz in LF and hes cheap, how much more $ do the padres have left to pay on Petco? The marlins got 3 good arms for Pierre in his contract year. Kevin Towers is not Jim Hendry, and Scott Podsednik is not Juan Pierre. And I don't think there's a chance in hell Podsednik is better than Cruz in LF in any aspect at all, except stolen bases. Perhaps I'm just a bit biased because I've always loved Cruz, but the numbers will almost undoubtedly agree with me at years end, even if Podsednik has 200 more PA's because Ozzie doesn't know how to construct a lineup. Let's put it this way...all things considered - talent, numbers, and contract status - would you trade Gio Gonzalez for Jeremy Reed with the intention of having Reed replace Anderson in CF? I think that question answers itself, but perhaps not.

Ray Durham - 2B Jose Valentin - SS Frank Thomas - DH Magglio Ordonez - RF Paul Konerko - 1B Carlos Lee - LF Herbert Perry - 3B Chris Singleton - CF Charles Johnson - C

First of all, f*** s*** cock balls son of a b****, there goes the defense Secondly, the mass of Soxtalk would be completely pissed about Cintron at SS come, oh, April 18th. Third, don't strike up any trade rumors about big name players, because at this point, the value of these players will completely destroy what KW has built up (meaning probable packages of Crede, Gio, and Danks for ARod and Tejada). And finally...Podsednik for Carillo and Blanks beau? If we're getting that much for garbage, why don't we just take Greene from them and keep Crede? And horrid platoon of Sledge and Cruz? Sledge has never really been a good player, but every season Cruz has been in the big leagues, he's had a respectable season. As an 8 hitter, he's worth hanging on to at like $650K or whatever ridiculously cheap salary he's at.

.825 OPS, the AJ Pierzynski way

I like the Pineiro signing, but I've always liked Pineiro. I haven't seen him pitch much in recent years, so I just have numbers to go by. Regardless, if he looks like half of what he did in 2002-2004, he's worth the gamble.

QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) I was at that game. That's when Cameron and Boone Both went back to back jacks TWICE in the first inning. I think it was the first time in history it was ever done. Cameron hit 4 jacks that day, and when he put the 5th one on the warning track, The Cell gave him a HUGE ovation! And why not? We were down by 7,000,000,000, runs anyway. We saw history the first inning. Why not see history made twice in the same game by being the first to hit 5 jacks in a game? It's a shame it didn't happen. On a different note, somebody quote me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that also Rauch'e ML debut? Can't remember!! April 2, 2002 in garbage time

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) Damn that was a tough night. Down 10-0 after 1 inning. LOL. I can't remember, did Cameron hit all 4 off Parque? About 99% sure #1 was hit off of Jon Rauch EDIT: wite = winnar http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B05020CHA2002.htm

Twins expect Santana gone by 2008, per paper
witesoxfan replied to beck72's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) Seeing as how the Sox will likely not even make an offer to either player, I'd love to see them hire Boras. Scott loves to promote his clients, imagine the portfolio he could put together for Santana. Basically, if he got Zito $18 mill, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him get Santana $30-35 mill per. And I don't put the Yankees and Red Sox as the automatic favorites, because in a sweepstakes where any team with any money at all is looking at said player as a possibility, there are no favorites to land a player. The Yankees and Red Sox can bid against each other all they want to, but there are probably 10 other teams who have the resources to put to use, and if they are smart, they'll realize it. QUOTE(Balance @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) Johan is one of the few players I wouldn't mind the Sox overpaying for. Just so we are clear...in this instance, overpay is 25% of the payroll for 8 years in a row. I'd love the Sox to get him, but it's just a horrible risky business decision that the front office has shied away from in the past 7-8 years, and with good reason too. -
