  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) I was thinking in terms of total salary, realistically Cabrera should get more years and Johan should get more per. It should be interesting to see if they can crack the half billion mark between the 2 of them (I doubt this will happen but there's certainly a chance). One thing's for sure though, it will be a record setting offseason. No doubt Not going to lie, it would be fun as hell to see both of them hire Boras. I would put money on them getting $500 mill combined.
  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Cordero> jenks at the end of the day. I know it is hard for many to believe someone is better than the savior bobby jenks. Jenks has more upside, but that's upside and not his current ability. I agree completely, but you know as well as I that Ozzie would insist on Jenks closing.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) So who is going to get the largest contract out of that Free Agent class? Johan Santana or Miguel Cabrera? Depends on the technicality of what largest is. Length will certainly go to Cabrera. Salary per year will end up in Santana's corner, and possibly by a lot. Total salary will probably be Cabrera, but I could even see a case where that didn't occur. I currently see Cabrera in the 10-12 year, $200-240 million range, while I see Santana at like friggin 8/$200-224, or if Brian Sabean is fired and rehired, 9/$225-252 (a lot of that does depend upon how similar the market is to this market 2 years from now too)
  4. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Sicso can help the White Sox most out of the bullpen as a left handed specialist. That's where he'll be IF he's on the major league roster. A left-handed specialist? Pitchers with his stuff really aren't ever specialists.
  5. You're trading for a setup man at closer value, which is kind of like buying a fliet mignon with the intention of grinding it into hamburger meat. Sure it would be great, but you may as well just buy the ass of the cow and get essentally the same product. If they would take just Broadway - which they won't - I'd do the deal in a heartbeat, but for the Sox, that's pretty much all they can give up. So, no, it's not going to happen.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) I'm really interested to see Igawa. It seems when he was first posting people were saying bull-pen guy or 4th or 5th starter, but when NYY got him his potential got a huge push (although I am an east-coast bias conspiracy guy!!). Igawa's long been projected to be a middle of the rotation guy
  7. QUOTE(forrestg @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) they need pitching in the worst way. I believe they need an established pitcher. Not for a 4th outfielder...a sub 3.00 ERA LHSP in a hitter's park in AAA with respectable peripherals should be more than enough. The only reason he really doesn't make sense for the Sox is that he's LH, and seeing as how I don't really care to do the research, he doesn't have nearly enough experience (100 career PA's) to determine whether or not he'll be able to continue to hit LHP at an .800 clip. I do like Church, but with the current roster, and Ozzie's infatuation with speed at the top of the lineup, Church just doesn't make sense for the Sox right now.
  8. QUOTE(beautox @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) I wouldn't be against rebuilding if we're getting a great return. You CANNOT (completely) rebuild after the year the Sox had last year. It doesn't make sense from ANY standpoint. The Sox won 90 games with a lineup that had 3 players with OPS's under .700, a mediocre bullpen, and a rotation that was bad after May. There will be some regression within the lineup, likely from Dye, Thome, and Crede (though Crede is also swinging upwards offensively, and he could be looking at an .850-.875 OPS year), but there I see it as quite likely that there will be progression throughout the lineup too, with Uribe, Podsednik, Anderson, and others could be primed for better years as well. That's all obvious s***, but you also must figure that the AL Central will be a little weaker next year. I see 4 teams with the capability of being over .500, but I don't see a 95 win team in the bunch. From what I figure, 92 wins probably wins the division, and perhaps it could be somewhere around 88-90. However, while the AL Central might be weaker in '07, that's not really the main reason why a (complete) rebuilding is essentially impossible. The real reason is attendance. People came out in droves this past year, and "rewarding" them the following season with a team full of mediocrity and inconsistency would be a swift kick in the groin to the entire fan base.
  9. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) And secondly I would hope Cintron is not starting for us next year cause his defense is not "Jose Valentin good". Perhaps you meant QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) And secondly I would hope Cintron is not starting for us next year cause his defense is "Royce Clayton scary".
  10. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) If the are looking for a CF that is cheap and we have one, and I know KW love Andrew Jones. Not at 7/$133+ he doesn't.
  11. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Exactly. He was doing so good with us here that's why we traded him. So that makes him crap? Because the Sox traded him? oooooooooooooooooooooooook
  12. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) 1. You can have the best stuff in the world, and dominate in the minors and still be crap in the majors (Rauch.) I don't know what your definition of crap is, but Jon Rauch is far from crap. He's not the #1-2 starter he was projected to be coming out of the minors, but he's a fine reliever for the Nationals, and I think I've even read he could have a chance to close if Cordero is traded (which seems much more unlikely at this point in time).
  13. QUOTE(Chisox_10 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) Yes, he is obsessed with something. He is obsessed with winning another World Championship. Before 2005 people said: People said how can he trade Carlos Lee for Pods? People said "Get rid of Joe Crede" People said "Get rid of Garland" People said" Tadahito who?" People said "Uribe who?' People said "How can he not sign Ordonez?' People said "Ozzie Guillen as manager"? People said "Trade Rowand" ( Then when he did trade him People said "How could you trade him?" People said "Contreras sucks" and Kenny stuck with him. Uhh, most of those are just completely false. Everyone knew who Uribe was, Ordonez was the easiest player to not resign in KW's 6 years as GM, Ozzie was a solid manager in 2004, Rowand was coming off a .900+ OPS season, and Contreras DID suck, but seeing as how he was acting as a 4th starter, his sub-mediocre numbers were somewhat acceptable. Who said anything about that? The fact of the matter is he flat out didn't get nearly enough value for McCarthy, who is very easily the White Sox most valuable trading chip. I'm not disappointed in seeing this talent come back, but rather I'm disappointed in how much more he should have gotten. There's no reason not to get another good pitching prospect back in that deal (and Rasner is not a good pitching prospect). Since when does McCarthy have a long term deal that will hurt the organization financially? 5 years and probably around $12 mill is what you'd be looking at. That's pretty f'ing cheap if you ask me. LOL, he'd laugh at you. He's looking at 5/$70 at the very minimum right now, and I could easily see him getting a 6/$100 deal in this market. That looks like just one side to me. What if Floyd becomes mediocre, Danks isn't a #3 till 2009, Gio's traded, and Masset and Aardsma are merely just good middle relievers? Then what? I personally find that scenario much more likely than all 5 of them becoming studs. I'd probably make some sweet manlove with KW. I doubt it happens. Or, if LF is not upgraded, we could enjoy sitting in 3rd and 4th place next year in a down year in the AL Central, and then 2008 might be worse.
  14. Brandon McCarthy and the prospect KW didn't get back from Philly wish you a happy birthday
  15. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) For that cheap a salary we should have signed the tub of goo. He'll be motivated now that just about everybod in baseball has given up on fatboy. Motivation isn't success I'd be surprised if he didn't make a start for the Red Sox this year - assuming he's pitching well in AAA - simply due to how injury prone/aged their starting rotation (or, specifically, Josh Beckett and Curt Schilling, along with Papelbon too, and Matt Clement if they decide he has the right to a spot in the rotation, which I don't think he does). And then he'll get sent back down again, or possibly put in the bullpen.
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) You don't say... Wonderful. Simply wonderful.
  17. this could make for a pretty solid dugout
  18. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) I don't understand this "if our pitching can return to 2005 form" argument. This is akin to saying "well, if we could just get career years out of four starters and most of the bullpen at the same time again, we'd be alright" So they don't pitch in 2006 form. No big deal. Afterall, 4 of the Sox starters pitched over their career ERAs last year (though Garland was right around his average year of mediocrity with more wins than usual). So basically, if they pitch at or around their career norms, they'll be fine. If they can pitch better, all the better.
  19. Preston Wilson would actually be a really good fit for this club, so long as he can play an adequate CF, which basically means something not along the Mackowiakian prowess.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) The Twinkies signed Rondell White to another 1 year, $2.75 million deal for next year as their DH/DL guy. This is a relief to me, as I was worried coming into the offseason that they'd be able to upgrade that spot. They'll upgrade, but it may not be as big of one as they'd hoped for. I would be quite surprised if he has another OPS+ around 66.
  21. BILLS BILLS BILLS BILLS They are playing so friggin' well right now. And then they kill any potential hope the Dolphins had at a playoff spot. Simply wonderful.
  22. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) the drays always ask way too damn much for their players They're asking a ton for a young player who has a great bat, good defense, and a great contract. That's not too damn much, that's getting a full return on your product.
  23. Clemens was mentioned in the Grimsley affadavit too.
