  1. QUOTE(S720 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) When you are an ace, act like one. Heads22, you should know it. Buerhle is one of the leaders on this team. For a leader who is showing IN PUBLIC his support and love for other team, to me is not RIGHT. You do know what Reinsdorf meant when he said that, am I right? first of all, just for kicks and giggles...MBINAA Secondly...you can't set a double standard. That's f***in' ridiculous. Each player should be held to the same expectations. These guys are all professionals, and all should go about their public life as such. I have no problem with Mark Buehrle being a fan, being in attendance, or even wearing a Cards hat to the game. But keep it very discrete, and don't get your friggin picture taken. That's horrible judgement on his part.
  2. kind surprised it went unmentioned On December 8th in America, (or 9th in England, which is probably more fitting), 26 years ago...
  3. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) I would love to see KW quietly lock down Buerhle to a new 3 year deal this offseason. I'm sure KW would too, but Buehrle would laugh his ass off. He's getting 5-6 years. Yuck. No way Owens starts for the Sox. If Anderson and Sweeney are in CF and RF, then LF will be a power position, because neither of those two really have above 20-25 homer potential, and seeing how young those two are, they might not put up that.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Brandon Inge agreed to a 3 year, $24 million extension with the Tigers. He was arbitration eligible and could have become a Free Agent after 2007. YOU HEAR THAT JOE? Better defense and the same power with the ability to actually draw a walk. He just doesn't make contact at nearly the rate Joe does. Is Crede really worth an extra year and probably $50 million more committed than that? I don't think so (and it was 4/$24)
  5. If he's an established reliever, odds are very good he won't end up in the White Sox bullpen.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Wikipedia claims he's a distant relative. I know that doesn't indicate anything conclusive, but I'd have to imagine most of the articles summarizing his death would have mentioned a relation if it were father/son. baseball reference says they have no relation at all We should just ask Juan
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) I can't believe people think Floyd is such a lock to make the 25 man roster next year. They must be seeing different stats than I am. Improved K/9, improved BB/9, improved H/9 in AAA last year. None were overly impressive, but they were solid nonetheless.
  8. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) In jerry's words about resigning pitchers currently on team 4 days ago...as in 2 before the trade of Garcia...
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) I was always taught to lend a helping hand. So we make sexy time now, yes?
  10. I was actually planning on going through about 15 years worth of obituaries and voting for myself 800 times or so. I heard its too late though...what a crock, we can't even fix the election
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) Does anyone know Floyd's status option wise? I've heard from a few people that he is out of options which doesn't sound right seeing as how he's only been up twice. Don't know for it sure, but I've heard one. He's been called up to the majors 3 times, but the first time was a September call-up...Cheat posted about it over at SSS. Its good news to say the least
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 07:13 AM) what do you say to people who misspell "white" ? I have already dealt with myself. My nose still hurts
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) Reading is a skill, people..... Seriously, I saw Jose right away and knew who it was. C'mon And besides, if Uribe died, it would be in a shootout anyways.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) Perhaps a Joe Crede could pique their interest if a Wilson Betimit isn't doing it for them at thirdbase. WILSONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 04:04 AM) When it comes to slugging Dave Winfield is one of the greats of the game, it's a damn shame however that he had to screw over his Yankee teammates in the 1981 world series by going 1 for 22 with 4 Ks in the series. The Yankees were unable to overcome their superstar's suckitude and lost the series in 6 games to the Dodgers. Too bad Winfield's postseason ineptitude does not end there, the man also owns a career .208 batting average and .641 OPS in October baseball. Speaking of the Yankees, did you know that Alex Rodriguez is the sole reason they have not made it to the World Series in the past 2 years (cuz it was of course not the Yankees choking but the Red Sox rising that got them to the Series in '04)? I mean, where was Gary Sheffield in '05 (.286/.318/.286/.604) and '06 (.083/.083/.083/.166)? What in the hell is Hideki Matsui doing(.200/.273/.400/.673; .250/.250/.312/.562)? Good thing Cano showed up too both years (.263/.333/.421/.754; .133/.133/.133/.266). And Bernie Williams? Don't think so (.211/.250/.316/.566; 0 for 3). And pitching? LOL...how about this rotation? Johnson - 6.14 ERA in 1 start, '05; 7.94 in 1 in '06 Mussina - 5.40 ERA in 2 in '05; 5.14 in 1 in '06 Wang - good Lidle - 20.25 ERA in 1 start in '06(yikes...RIP all the same) methinks ARod is just playing the TIMO role on the Yankees, he just does it in such a fashion where .300 40 .900-1.000 is unacceptable, because he has played poorly in his last 9 postseason games. /bed
  16. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:45 AM) Extensions would be very nice. However, nothing that has been said or done in the last few days gives me any hope that that will happen. I we are offering Mark 3 years 45 million and he can get 6 years 90 million on the open market next year, he is gone. That's another problem I have with the Sox. Time to give 4 year deals. Yes, it is risky but you can't expect 3 to get you anything if the other side will settle for nothing less than 5 years. Crede doesn't seem likely for reasons we all know. Maybe Wells would be the way to go. The Sox may be more willing to risk the huge cash on everyday players instead of pitchers. Manny, AROD, or any good player who is already inked to a contract may be better. There's about one pitcher the White Sox have had in the past 20 years...given, I'm 19, so a lot of this is hearsay...that merits more than 3 or even 4 years and that's Mark Buehrle. He will not consistently put up sub 4 ERAs year in and year out...he's such a pitcher that he is just not capable of that, similar to that of Jamie Moyer, Kenny Rogers, and David Wells. However, he's almost guaranteed to stay healthy, and he will, by and large, put up ERAs south of 4...he's done it 4 of the 6 years he's started, and nearly did it in 2003 after he had such a wretched start to the year. Regardless, I really don't blame the organization's fear of long-term contracts to pitchers.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:43 AM) Phil Rizzuto has played in the 6th most postseason games of all time, there's also a purdy bust of him in Cooperstown, appearantly the voters didn't notice that Phil owns a .295 career post season slugging percentage. Anyone with that few total bases in the world series couldn't possibly be considered for baseball immortality now could he? Atleast Phil won though. Barely edging him out in the total base suckitude category, Rod Carew put up .200/.291/.300/.591 in 4 trips to the postseason, losing every series he was in.
  18. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) Gonzalez? For a team with so many good young outfielders, that can't use the dh, that already signed juan pierre... Prelude to a trade? It looks a lot like it, but what do they need? I'm not exactly sure. They do have a lot of nice little shiny things that would look good on the South Side.
  19. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:30 AM) I wonder what it is now for next year with Freddie traded. Minus 10 more million if Garland is traded. Keep the payroll at 100 million and infuse the system with young pitching, and I can live with that. I may not agree, but I will trust KW. Go into next year with an 80 mil payroll and it screams salary dump. Now, without the numbers in front of me, assume the Sox have 10-15 million to spend. What are they going to do with it. Maybe some of it would be better spent on additional scouts, a 2nd hitting coach, improved minor league instructors, and bonus money for some overseas talent. I'd imagine 5 million for scouts may have more benefit than a crusty old bullpen guy who is not that much better than the guys you have in the system. How about trying to pound out extensions with Buehrle and Crede? Would that be good or not? (in Crede's case, it might not, but we'll see) Or how about something completely radical and trading for Vernon Wells and then locking him up long-term?
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) Speaking of dicks, Mark McGwire appeared in 42 postseason games, he probably would have been better off staying home however seeing as how he owns a career .217/.320/.349/.669 line in postseason play. You know who would be in complete agreement with you? Two-time MVP Joe Morgan. It's just too bad he couldn't quite get it done in postseason play: .182/.323/.348/.671 Pee yew, something stinks
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:09 AM) Do you know who wasn't an asshole? The man who broke the color barrier, Jacky Robinson. There was one barrier however that he just couldn't seem to crack . . . his inability to come through when it mattered the most, his .234/.335/.343/.678 career postseason line is hardly Hall of Fame caliber. And Dick Allen (no, not that Dick Allen, but the player) had a .912 career OPS. Unfortunately, the only thing he could do was get on base, posting a .222/.417/.222/.639 line in the postseason.
  22. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) The point is that we have a bunch of 3-5 type starters , which is good because some will dissappear, some will be surprises , and some will be just midd of the road, but we need those top of the line starters and danks etc would make me really happy, since we could go back to a cheaper version of the 2005 rotation within 3-4 years with guys like these like i said before "guys we had acquire" so that meant floyd or gonzalez, who i like but they both seemed to falter last year, and i would be estatic to get pelfrey and/or humber from the Mets for Vaz If some 3-5 type starters surprise, wouldn't that mean they are top of the rotation starters? Also, Floyd has always had ace potential, but has been quite bad the past 2 years. And Gio will likely be a 2-3 starter at some point, pending he stay healthy.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:59 AM) Maybe Willie Mays should have spent a little less time worrying about the long ball and a little more time working on improving his terrible .660 career postseaon OPS. Ty Cobb never won a World Series...I wonder why? MAYBE CUZ OF HIS .262 CAREER POSTSEASON AVERAGE, yeah thats why (he actually was an asshole though)
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:52 AM) Stan Musual? .259 career BA in the postseason also, selfish player. Ted Williams sucked, .200 batting average in the only series he ever played in. Didn't he realize he was never going to get another shot?
