  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) haha seems like cust's name has been thrown out in connectino with the white sox for years....i remember when he was supposed to be dealt for rowand ill always remember him for having the absolute worst base running play ive ever seen with the Os a few years ago.... Actually, as I recall, the Sox were gonna trade Rowand for Cust, and then deal Cust to Oakland for Erik Hiljus. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm about 99% sure on that one. They might have been interested in him otherwise, but I'm pretty sure that time they were gonna trade him again.
  2. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:31 AM) I could see the deal happening, it was the same exact one I proposed when the offseason started (w/ Yankees helping out with the salary), but now that I look at it, it doesn't make that much sense. Offense wasn't our problem last year. With ARod that improves but you lose a pitcher and still have the Boras issue, payroll will prob go up anyway, and all the same question marks your team had going in. Or else, you have Crede for a couple years if you don't do anything with him, could spend the extra money for the rest of the team or trying to keep Crede, if not, you sure as hell weren't going to keep ARod after his is up (not sure when though, prob even later), and you keep your SP which you can keep or trade for the question marks instead. But offense was a problem, specifically in the 2nd half when the Sox were horrendous. The starting pitching was bad, there was no real leadoff hitter, the bullpen was blowing leads, and the offense couldn't score in the 2nd half. Bringing in ARod fixes two of those holes, though not both directly. Add to the fact that he'll provide stability at the 3B position for 2 more years than Crede, along with his 40+ homers and .900-1.000 OPS, and you have a great addition to the ballclub. There's still nothing stopping KW from trading 2 starters too, though that leaves the Sox a minor hole in the back of the rotation that could be fixed by Phillips, Haeger, a prospect returned in a deal, or perhaps a journeyman SP. The #5 guy really just needs to eat 150 innings and provide an ERA around 5.00.
  3. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 01:14 AM) Trading Joe Crede would be the dumbest thing that KW could do. It could also easily be one of the smartest things he's ever even considered as a GM. Joe Crede's had 1 good statistical year, along with 1 good postseason under his record. He's great defensively, which no one will question, but he's been apt to hit .250 with mediocre power his entire career while also not walking a whole hell of a lot. However, the baseball world may see him as an upper echelon 3Bman - which he probably is - and will be willing to give up a lot of talent for his services. If you can get ARod or Santana for Crede, there should be absolutely no reason at all not to explore such an option.
  4. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Hilarious question. And to answer it, frankly, no. Not that year at least. Otherwise, how DO they win a WS? Luck? Like I've said, they beat the two best teams in baseball in the postseason to win the WS. You can dissect all the aspects and say the other teams f***ed up and whatnot, but again, good teams capitalize on those mistakes. The Cards won the WS which means they were the best team. PERIOD. I'm not arguing such a meaningless point anymore
  5. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Well, you basically said that the World Champs were a bad team, so I made the most logical assumption I could think of. If I made the wrong one, I'd love to hear your logic (unless it's as obtuse as the "logic" that some of the other posters I've addressed have used). As far as I can tell, we've given you our logic, and your ability to take such information in compares to a brick wall soaking up water. Is it not possible for a World Series champion to be a bad team? If you say no, then it's quite obvious - even though it already is - that there's disagreement between the two parties' opinions.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) He's no idiot. He's asking high and will negotiate from there. Idiot was a strong word to use, but there is no chance he's getting all 3.
  7. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) According to rotoworld, the Red Sox want Adam Miller, Trevor Crowe, and Fausto Carmona for Manny. cuz Theo is an idiot He might get 1 of those 3 in a deal for Manny, if of course Manny were willing to go to Cleveland.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Where is Crazy Carl these days? /makes joke about signing with someone else just so KW can trade for him
  9. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) Again, ignorant. How many times does I have to state the facts? Why do you people keep ignoring these facts? Stop looking for reasons to judge a team. They won the World Series, in which they beat the two best teams in baseball to get that title. Stop making excuses for the other teams or whatever. They won. They are a good team. There is no argument. Is ist that some of you are the type who think stats are all that matters? Well, how are THESE stats: Cards vs. San Diego - W. Cards vs. New York - W. Cards vs. Detroit - W. This is the only stat that matters. So they had the worst record of any WS winning team. So what? They still managed to do it. As I said, they aren't the only team to have struggles and win the WS. AGAIN as I said, so did our Sox. They are a good team. I absolutely CANNNOT stand people that s*** on teams that win the freaking World Series over s*** that ultimately does not matter. It's stupid. Stop looking for reasons to judge a team? Are you f'ing serious? What's a better way to judge a team than by their regular season record? A stretch of 16 games? If that's the case, let's crown the f***ing DRays or Royals champions. JFC... BTW, you wanna talk about ignorant, way to f***ing completely ignore every other fact that is being thrown at you, and instead making this into an argument based completely upon the postseason and nothing else. Pretty much every team has struggles in the regular season, but no other World Series winners have ever struggled to the tune of 83 wins. How are you even debating that? They were the worst World Series winner ever, and I'm not sure there's really any argument against it. I don't think anyone here is by any stretch of the imagination suggesting they shouldn't have won it.
  10. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) Yeah, they sucked so bad that they won the World Series, beating one good team and the 2 best teams in baseball to do it. So are you telling me that the DRays, Royals, or Cubs couldn't get hot for a stretch of 11 games? Afterall, the Cards only went 7-4 in their way to the World Series. None of those teams mentioned above could have gone 7-4 against the Padres and Mets? If you say no, I'll just simply have to beg to differ. They also proved they were a good team by winning 83 games in the regular season... :rolleyes Don't give me the injury excuse. They played in, by far, the worst division in baseball...any other division, and they finish 3rd. Just curious...who said anything about an asterik or about them being the worst World Series winner ever? As far as I can tell.....especially after reading your post defending them being better than the worst World Series winner ever.....the worst World Series winning team is a completely arbitrary opinion; thus, no asterik should be put next to the title, even though it is quite apparent who the worst World Series winning team is. worst.concept.evar. Alienate every single team? NO OTHER TEAM HAS EVER WON 83 GAMES AND WON THE WORLD SERIES. NO OTHER TEAM HAS EVER WON THE WORLD SERIES WHEN THE OTHER TEAM MADE ERRORS IN 5 STRAIGHT GAMES. Why is that hard to alienate?...just curious of course The Cardinals got great pitching from pitchers who were mediocre or worse in the regular season, outstanding results from a bullpen who was about as experienced combined as Augustin Montero, and timely hits from an offense that was mediocre. lucky.as.f***. You wanna talk about ignorant...jesus tap dancing christ (of course, no offense to any Cards fans on here...love what they did, and I'm glad as hell they did it. I'll just argue that they were lucky, and seeing as how you have the trophy, I'm not sure you guys care.)
  11. Because I got high - Afroman -- Freddy Garcia
  12. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) I understand that by demanding a trade in the middle of his contract that he gave up his right to file for free agency until after the 2008 season but....there is no salary agreed upon for the 2008 season that I can see. Does this mean that his salary is determined thru the arbitration process ? Does anyone know this information ? Your first assumption is correct. His salary is arbitration, or if the team and player come to terms.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 02:40 AM) Is it too much to ask for an athlete to be outspoken and not be a poor sport/asshole at the same time? I remember Pujols whining about some crap was it either during the season late or post-season and now he is going on about how MVP should go to a playoff team even though his team had less wins. The same team with more injuries and less talent. Pujols should have been the MVP, because it was he, not Howard, who had the better offensive stats - superior numbers in everything BUT homers and RBI. You can't do much better than being the best offensive player in the your league.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Did you even bother to read the article? It's amazing that an athlete can't say anything these days without being destroyed by fans. It's funny that people complain because Pujols doesn't talk to the media a lot and doesn't often open up to the public then the one time he decides to answer a question honestly he gets s*** on. It's pretty sad really. f***ing preach on
  15. The hell what I was thinking? Ya, Anderson was horrible with the bat, but he has 20+ homer potential along with the ability to hit .275. Basically, Torii Hunter. If Borchard becomes Russell Branyan, I'm sure someone will be absolutely delighted.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSoxLifer @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Don't laugh. Borchard actually had a better offensive year than Anderson in half the at-bats. Joe's defense is nothing to sneeze at either. I'm not saying it was a bad trade because the Sox got a great reliever out of it. Considering the year BA had, which would you rather have? JB or BA? Is this actually a question? Do I want AAAA slugger or a GG defensive CF with a solid bat in his rookie year? Tough question...
  17. And it hasn't even snowed (heavily) in South Dakota yet. That is awesome.
  18. Getting more value out of LF isn't as outrageous as acquiring Carl Crawford. Simply getting a slight upgrade in OBP(anywhere from .340-.360), improved defense, and fewer outs on the basepaths would do wonders. Better consistency would be nice too.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) I've never liked the, "Has to come from a playoff team" nonsense. It's not a player's fault that the rest of his team absolutely sucks. You mean like Pujols's team?
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) It would be really hard to turn that down, but we all know Bmac for Crawford isn't going to get it done, might not even be that close. No chance McCarthy for Crawford gets it done, and I'm not sure how much of a match the Sox are with the DRays. Crawford may be KW's #1 goal, but it's going to cost McCarthy as well as pitching prospects, and perhaps non-OF prospects offensively. KW's going to have a hell of a time getting Crawford, but I would absolutely love him patrolling LF for the Sox for a while. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) I have no idea how that stupid smiley thing got in there B + ) = smiley
  21. QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) i don't see pods being much worse than figgins. phil rogers suggested figgins in CF and pods in LF. how stupid is that? and he's the local baseball "expert." It's extremely stupid. If Rogers thinks KW will make Garcia/Crede for Santana/Figgins and be done for the offseason, putting Pods in LF, Figgins in CF, and Fields at 3B, then he's just guessing, and it's a very poor guess. As always, no one has any idea WTF KW is doing.
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) Very good points by Yasny. I'm surprised some don't seem to grasp what you're saying. And for those saying Pods did nothing after the break in 2005, check again. While it is true Pods was never the same as far as stealing bases after the hamstring injury in August, he was still quite productive. His September splits: .337/.386/.404. And, of course, there was the postseason. I realize Pods is not very popular around here. But give the guy credit for 2005, atleast. 2006? Yes, he was bad. Real bad a lot of the time. But who really feels comfortable going into 2007 with one of Sweeney/Fields/Owens in LF? Those are pretty much our options, assuming no trade is made to bring in a leadoff hitter. I know I'm not comfortable with that. And I don't think it's out of the realm of realism that Pods can have a year closer to 2005 than 2006. I'd rather take my chances on that. You were way drunk worst case scenario, Pods is back. There's no way the Sox go into next year with the AAA brigade in LF.
  23. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 06:03 AM) Happy Fists? too young
