  1. QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) um but isnt how they turn out the ONLY thing that matters??? Yes KW has a propensity to "overpay" only to see the prospects turn into jack s***. If you have pretty good control of that, then it's hard to say you've overpaid for anything.
  2. QUOTE(Chisox_10 @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) If it were the Sox that signed him half the people on this board would be doing cartwheels they would be so happy. The fact that they may have over paid means nothing if they have unlimited purse strings right now. Get ready my fellow Sox fans, it may be a long summer for us. These guys mean business and it is only November! What is they get Zito and Schmidt!!!! Really, well I'm glad you know half the people on this board, because I'd guaranteed 98% of the people on this board would be saying "WTF" with multiple verbal threats against KW.
  3. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) I also agree with what your saying but teams like Texas and the Mets are looking for 2 maybe even 3 starters so even if they sign someone a deal could still be made for 1 of our starters. So if the Mets sign Zito, how likely are they to give up Milledge/Humber/Pelfrey? That's the entire point of dealing now.
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Levine is always wrong, move on. Really? If you are basing "always" on "Omar Vizquel", then perhaps you should just not say he's "always" wrong.
  5. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) I counted 14 bad starts last year. Thats 14 games with 4 plus earned runs which seamed to be the criteria used for Javy. why thank you, that's all I was asking. Every person in the White Sox rotation was mediocre as f*** this year. Everything considered, it's ridiculous trying to argue that one was better than the other.
  6. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) I assume you mean the 12 bad starts, Tony? Count 'em: Date IP ER 04/14/2006 Vazquez 6 7 05/13/2006 Vazquez 5 2/3 7 05/18/2006 Vazquez 7 5 06/03/2006 Vazquez 6 1/3 5 06/14/2006 Vazquez 6 6 06/25/2006 Vazquez 6 9 07/01/2006 Vazquez 6 5 07/19/2006 Vazquez 6 5 07/24/2006 Vazquez 6 5 07/30/2006 Vazquez 5 1/3 5 09/26/2006 Vazquez 7 6 10/01/2006 Vazquez 4 2/3 4 Someone please look up Garcia's gamelog for this year, because I am almost positive he had 10-12 bad starts too. My computer is lagging like a mofo right now.
  7. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Im in with you. I like Freddy and he was part of our World TItle team...Vazquez is a waste...good arm, mush brain. Freddy pitched us to a 1-0 World Series title...Vazquez could never do that in a zillion years. Deal Javy...get talent and let Freddy pitch that new fork ball for us next year. So what did you say about Contreras in 2004?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 03:13 AM) You do know that Santana was better than Garcia last season, no? that's not what Ozzie said
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) Freddy's ERA was over 5 all year long before that last little run of his to end the season. Anybody from John Kruk to Cecil Fielder could've swiped a base off him last year. Look, I like Freddy. I really do. But he's never gonna be the same pitcher again with the decrease in his velocity. He's still better than average. He can be dominant on some nights. But the Freddy from Seattle, or even his first couple years with the Sox, is gone. If we can get a stud like Santana from him, you have to do it. You can truthfully say that about all of our starters.
  10. I bet Levine hates Omar Vizquel
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Aside from last year, he hits lefties pretty well, career CS% of 43%, and Hawk always talks about how clutch he is. Anybody (Chisofn?) know much about his game calling? I really don't know how much game-calling matters for backup catchers, seeing as how it's 10x easier to just look over the bench after every pitch. If he can hit lefties, and he has a cannon, he should be looked at as a backup catching option for next year. Rowand...good thought on Fields. The Angels seem to still be in need of a 3Bman, and they could perhaps view Fields as their guy coming out of ST, depending of course upon what they thought of him.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) 113 homers in 2 years; no one can say you didn't go out on a limb. It's actually 113 over 3 - there's a team option in there too for $10 mill. That's actually possible, though quite unrealistic.
  13. QUOTE(VAfan @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) 1. Starting pitching. Everyone wants to trade at least one of our top 5 starters, but which one? Garcia? Well, for all his troubles, he went 17-9, and was probably our second most consistent starter behind Jon Garland. Sure, Jose had a better ERA and was lights out early, but he won only 13 games. Buehrle, on the other hand, ended with an ERA of almost 5, and Vazquez was a mental midget, breaking down in the 6th inning of EVERY game. The Sox control Vazquez through 2008, and the last time I checked, actually had 4 months with an ERA below 4.00. And Garcia being consistent to you is Garcia being mediocre to below average until he put up an amazing September to bring his overall numbers to respectability. The hell with that. And, FWIW, Contreras was always a mental midget too. I always like to throw that out there. Who cares? He's the #5. He can put up an ERA of 5.25; so long as half his starts are quality starts, I won't care, and I'm not sure the team will either. lolz The "what if" game? What if Aardsma is this year's Thornton, and he gives the Sox 75 innings if 3.00 ERA and 1.15 WHIP, 9 K/9 relief out of the pen? Then, as far as I'm concerned, f*** Cotts. And I really don't think we can make an accurate statement regarding Aardsma until we've seen him. People b****ed about Thornton, pitched b****ed about MacDougal, so it's just a given that people will b**** about Aardsma. He gave us a World Series winner and has proven he is a great judge of talent and yet still people don't trust him. What a shame. Really, the only thing one can really question in the Cotts trade is the actual value of Cotts himself, not what KW got in return. Perhaps KW felt, as he has shown he has in the past, that in some cases it's better to trade to replace a need rather than get max value out of a given player. Maybe, just maybe, this is one of those cases. Oh nos, the Sox don't have any answers to their LHP woes. WE ARE OF THE DICKED ... Seeing as how you don't have any answers, and lefty mashers are quite literally EVERYWHERE, I'm glad you're not the GM. Otherwise our big offseason addition would have been made in July at the cost of Broadway and Fields. And in conclusion, JUST F***ING RELAX...it's November 17th, and you're freaking out about the well-being of the White Sox roster. Just think about that. Sit back and enjoy the offseason, because, other than if the Sox are in the playoffs, it's the funnest time of the year.
  14. The only name I can really think of is Tejada, quite honestly, unless KW thinks he can get Bedard.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) So.............how was the Pancake Breakfast on October 20th? Delicious I bet. You know, I've always wanted to ask that, but never found the right opportunity. It's definitely one of the more interesting avatars on Soxtalk, and this comes from a guy with a friggin screaming baby.
  16. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) According to the ESPN Rumor Central (which is an Insider service so I won't post, but if anyone has it, they can confirm), the price that's being bandied about for JD Drew's services is around 4/$56mil. Um...yeah. I don't know what's worse, the fact that he thinks that he can get that or the fact that he probably will. Boras is so f***ing rich, JFC yeah, he'll get that...easily.
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) People forget how poorly he started off. He really came around, there is no denying that, but it will boggle my mind just as it will many Toronto fans if.. or should I say when Frank goes down. Nonetheless, best of luck to him. He's always been a poor starter though. The only thing that surprised me was that he stayed healthy enough to stay 15 homers ahead of Thome in the race to 500. If he is that healthy again this year, I'll be amazed. It's possible, but that artifical turf will be hell on his ankles.
  18. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) I'm now drawing a blank slash unable to find where I read it, but apparently one of the reasons Frank Thomas was signed was to indicate to Vernon Wells that they were going to be a competitive ball club if he were to tag on for another 5-6 years. LOL, in that case, Blue Jay management is a joke. Frank's done after '08, and he should be done after '07.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) I for one would only see a problem with Baldelli on the White Sox if it cost the Sox McCarthy to get him, or some other unreasonable amount, which dealing with Tampa sometimes does. I'm not really suggesting the Sox get him...just that I love him as a ballplayer and think he is going to be a top tier CFer in the game, most likely for a different franchise.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) If you're trying to suggest we'd get V. Wells for that, the other prospect is going to have to be McCarthy. That's what I was going for, and that'd be a b****.
  21. Just a thought...how much interest would Ricciardi have in adding, say, Uribe, Garcia, and another solid prospect?
  22. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Nonetheless, it amuses me that in the last month Juan Uribe turns from the greatest thing since sliced bread to someone people are open about replacing with Alex Gonzalez. Uribe allegedly shot some people in the last month. Regardless of whether or not he is convicted, do you think that sticks in people's minds? The fact that he hit .230 last year won't help either, and his .700 OPS is not appreciated by all, and with good reason, because it is heavily influenced by his solid SLG%. This offense, by and large, had no problem driving the ball and getting XBHs. They DID have problem with getting runners on base ahead of those XBHs. Hence, people feel Uribe's replaceable.
  23. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) hmm maybe that he has back-to-back 18 win seasons, he's still young, getting better. Rick Helling won 20 games one year, was he a good starter? 4.41 ERA, 1.33 WHIP. Looks more like a middle of the rotation starter who ran into some offensive support(read: Jon Garland). Buehrle, Garcia, and Contreras are all big game pitchers too, what's your point? I don't want to see him go, but making him untouchable is stupid. If you can bring in 3 prospects for him, such as Hurley, Danks, and Arias, you do it. That's true, but if you can get more for Garland and resign Buehrle to about a 4-year, $52 mill deal, you do it. And nothing is stopping anyone from trading Freddy too, there just becomes a necessity to bring in a quality 5th starter at that point.
