  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) I wouldn't love the needless extra 2 million dollars he'd cost over Stewart for a team that already will have a tightening budget to work on. Blanco might be the best backup in the league, but we can't be spending a couple million extra at that spot when you have a cheap, young backup in Stewie. Yeah, it's called the "we've got all our money tied up in the rotation and on Konerko, Dye, Thome, Iguchi, and soon to be Crede" rule. Blanco's pretty well known for being a good game caller, has a cannon for an arm(which will in turn obviously help shut down the running game, which would be nice as hell to have some sort of arm with Contreras/Garcia on the mound), and he has always hit LHP pretty well, atleast in regards with slugging. I think it'd be a wise investment to bring in Blanco, not a poor one. It may just mean that Cintron has to go.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) I mean look at the scrap heap roster. Aaron Miles? White Sox trash. Jeff Weaver? Preston Wilson? We would have had a field day with these clowns. Leyland should be embarassed after beating two good teams like Oakland and New York and then losing to a AAA team. I'm sure people were wondering who the hell this Joe Crede guy was, and how he could go from hitting .250 in the regular season to destroying everything thrown at him in the postseason; how over the hill Carl Everett could do anything at all for the Sox; how 'can't-stay-healthy' Jermaine Dye hit 31 homers for the Sox; how headcase Jose could be the horse of a World Series winning team; how overweight and troubled pitcher Bobby Jenks would get the last out of the World Series for the Sox. I have my doubts as to whether the Sox would have beaten the Cardinals. On paper, it happens with ease...but the rotation allowing 4 runs a game would pretty much kill those chances, and Podsednik getting on at a .280 clip would further fistf*** the Sox.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) I dont think Jesus/God is going to be the reason a major league baseball player is able to pitch another season or not. And im not being an ass, Im a religous person. Mark Prior can only do so much
  4. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Whatever. The Sox will pick up his option and then he gets resigned to a contract extension ...
  5. So what happens with Iguchi? Because from everything I've ever heard or read, Michael Young is an average to slightly below average defensive SS, so he shouldn't be playing it with a pitching staff so dependent upon defense.
  6. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) anyway, the thing that scares me most about this off season is losing Freddy Garcia and keeping Javy Vasquez. The trib points out that Freddy battled through a stiff shoulder that resulted in his loss of velocity. He learned to pitch around it and if he gets some of the pop back on his fastball he's going to be a stud again. I just hope we don't give up on him. Vazquez = 4 months w/ ERA under 4. Garcia = 2 months w/ ERA under 4 Vazquez also had 2 months with a WHIP below 1 as well as 4 months total with a WHIP below 1.30. Garcia had 2 months throughout the entire year where he had a WHIP below 1.30(and they were very good months too, 1.11 and 0.85). Plain and simply, Vazquez had just as many dominant months as Garcia did, and he had 2 more good months than Garcia did. The only thing he did that Garcia didn't was completely blow up and get torched for about a million runs. Garcia also has value, and will almost assuredly be lost in FA following the 2007 season, whereas they'll lose Vazquez following 2008.
  7. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) third day of the gm meetings, when are those again? and FA starts saturday, at least thats when player can file, right? when can you start signing? Several players already have filed for free agency, as you can file the second the World Series is over.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Well they have a better shot than Warren. Point, Rowand. I'll beat them both wite winnar
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Game 2 of the World Series last year and this kid is wearing shorts and long socks. True story. dont forget the part where he punched a bunch of garbage cans...because every story with willie has him punching something
  10. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) yes he isnt the greatest option against LHP (.248 over the last 3 years) but i still think he could do enough against lefties to be a productive #2 hitter against lefties and righties and i think provides more flexibility than a guy like dave roberts for a similar price. i think roberts is a bad option right now at 34 and despite a good year last year you just gotta wonder when his legs are going to slow and he will become a much less valuable player without his speed Roberts would be here for 2 years at the most...I don't see his age being a huge factor. He is injury prone, which is a huge concern. He'd also be moving from a very open ballpark with lots of room for hits to fall in to a very small ballpark with much less room for hits. The last factor won't matter, especially if the 1-2 in the order are putting up OBP's of around .340-.360 on a consistent basis.
  11. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) They are certainly the worst team in recent memory to win a World Series, but I see no reason for MLB to be embarrassed. Frankly, I prefer it this way. Remember all the talk about the lack of parity in the league when the big payroll teams like the Yankees were winning championships every year? I'm glad that there is the potential for a major surprise every season. I'm glad that more teams (yes, even the "not-so-great" teams) have a chance to win it all. And I like the idea that its open season for any team that is fortunate to make the playoffs. There is nothing wrong with sliding into the playoffs and rising to the occasion when it counts the most. It sure as hell takes away from the trade deadline and makes it a hell of a lot less important, I'll say that for sure. If a team can sneak into the playoffs by completely backing in, getting hot, and winning the World Series because the opposing team s***s their pants, what's that do for the other 28 teams in the majors? It tells them that if they have a record somewhat close to .500(as in within 8-10 games of any divisional race), they'll feel as though they have as good a shot as any other to get hot and sneak into the postseason, when in reality, it's not even close. That leads to only 5-7 teams trading every year, which in turn does not allow for many teams to upgrade their 25-man, which will undoubtedly turn into something along the lines of a team trading a key piece that's struggling for a piece that they need. I'm happy as hell for the Cards, completely disappointed with how mediocre the World Series was(in large part because the Sox weren't in it for the first time since 2004), and pissed as hell that in the Cards worst year since 1999, they win the World Series. It's just completely frustrating. For pure baseball fans that want parity, this is a huge moment. For huge hot stove fans, and fans that look to see their team improved at the trade deadline, it kinda sucks.
  12. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Noone talks about it, but this might be one of the biggest upsets in W.S. history. Marlins over Yankees? DBacks over Yankees? Marlins over Indians? Reds over A's? Dodgers over A's? Twins over Cardinals? It's not like the Tigers dominated the whole year and looked completely unbeatable. They went 19-31 in their last 50 and pretty much lucked into a playoff birth thanks in large part to the Sox not being worth a damn in the 2nd half either. This is not an upset IMO. This is two good teams playing each other with regular season records completely thrown out the window. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) God hates them so much. It's beautiful. And of course, in 2004, the other Sox ended their "curse". So 3 years in a row! The Cubs kinda f***ed up in 2003 too. That would be 4 years in a row where they were kicked squarely in the nuts by fate. Ouchies
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Wite could beat the Tigers by himself at the moment. I could've beaten them at any point during the season. fooking Ozzie not calling me
  14. QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) did we need help anyway? winnar
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) I'm not so sure if they'd deal him, but Omar Vizquel plays great defense, will post an OPS greater than .698 (Uribe's OPS from last season,) and makes a little over $4 million. That would be probably the only name I'd imagine would be a good replacement, and that would be extremely short-term too. And whether it's scary or not...he hasn't put up a .700 OPS in two straight seasons since 99-00. His .691 in '05 was close, but the point remains. Add to the fact that retaining Uribe costs no talent at all, and I just don't see it as productive.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) Uribe had 13 walks all of last season. That's just plain disgusting. Get rid of him please, KW. Please enlightmen me as to where one could find defense as good as or nearly as good as Uribe's while also finding an upgrade from a .715 OPS for $4.5 mill. Add to the fact that KW has already given him a vote of confidence, and I'm not sure I see any reason why Uribe would be dealt.
  17. I too actually recall some troubles with Razor. Not sure what exactly, but I seem to recall him being basically a complete asshole. It may not be accurate, so don't take that to the bank, but that is as I remember.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) Contreras' contract includes full no-trade protection in '07, the first year of his deal. I noticed that too when I looked. So I'm wondering, does 2007 start when the World Series ends, or at 12:00 AM on January 1st?
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) The curse of A Rod and his staggering post season BA? No thx. What's wrong with .280 6 16 .362/.485/.847 in 150 PAs? It's not outstanding, but it's far from horrible.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) For comparison sake, Garland only did that twice. I bring up Jon because once again he had a very average season yet it seems like everyone thinks he was fantastic last season cause he had two really good months. He also had two brutal months and two average months. He was not very good at all last year. Pretty much agreed completely. Jon was huge from about mid-June to September, but he always mixed in atleast one awful start every month, and occasionally two or three. It's really hard arguing for any White Sox starter this year. They all pretty much sucked ass. I'm definitely excited about this rotation come next year though. No real reason why, just a quiet feeling of confidence I have that this rotation will bounce back something amazing next year. If Contreras stays healthy, he's going to be good(and all we as fans can do is hope)...I gotta hunch Buehrle's going to come back stronger than ever, Garland will be solid again, Vazquez will be comfortable, seeing as how he's not being traded in an offseason since 2002, and then there's McCarthy(who you and I both like a lot).
  21. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) That's not saying much... You're absolutely correct, putting up 4 months with an ERA below 4 just absolutely sucks balls.
  22. I dunno, in hindsight, it was not completely horrendous. Bonilla obviously turned into a very, very good ballplayer down the line, but DeLeon had a very solid year and a half with the Sox and then he was traded to St. Louis for One-Dog, Ricky Horton(who was later dealt for the immortal Shawn Hillegas), and cash. I dunno, I guess I've just seen worse trades than that. Not saying it's good by any stretch of the imagination, but it's no Brock for Broglio(or more recently, AJP for God, Moses, and Nathan)
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Considering some of the players we had on the 40 man roster at the time (and the fact we actually had a couple openings) it was a very very bad move. The Sox evidently didn't think highly enough to claim him (or that no one would take him) and either way they were wrong (since someone did take him and considering numerous scouts in other organizations liked him there was obviously value in Fabio, even if it was as trade bait). Like first overall in the draft
  24. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Well, if anyone is on facebook, feel free to join the group "Kenny Rogers is a cheater". There's only like 49 of them
  25. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) Andrew Wood. His death changed the entire popular music landscape. The 90's would have been drastically different had he not died. They also would have been soooo much better had he lived. Not a Pearl Jam fan I take it? And for that matter, one could very easily argue Soundgarden too. I haven't listened to Mother Love Bone much, but from what I have heard, they sounded pretty good.
