  1. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) How many teams are in the league? 30. So you figure the number is around there. Yea, I figured that. What's the exact number? I have serious doubts it's in the bottom 3rd, but rather towards the bottom of the 2nd tier of SS's.
  2. QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) i think 5 is pushing it, more than that just seems ridiculous... not many guys have contracts with that many years attached... especially injury prone ones who have only had one good year Crede will be coming off two more seasons if he were to test FA. I hope he's not coming off 1 good year. If he were to sign now, 5/50 would be too much
  3. Fewer home games would be a joke. I think an NFL type playoff scheme would be really interesting. Have 4 rounds - wild card round, divisional round, championship round, and world series. It would lengthen the baseball season and would allow for fewer messes like we've seen in this postseason, where there are 4 solid, but not spectacular, teams in the LCS. In that scenario this year, Minnesota and New York would have had first round byes, while the Tigers played the Sox and the Angels played the A's. I have no doubt in my mind the divisional series is completely different if that scenario occurred this year. First round is 5 games, ALDS is 7, and nothing changes beyond that.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) If he still is having back issues, I really don't see a team giving him 5 years. I'd tend to agree in most cases, but Maggs somehow got 5/75 from Detroit when his career was in jeopardy. Boras is a pretty sneaky person. I'd imagine he'll get 5-7 years with a potential opt out plan about 3-4 years in.
  5. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) yeah, I love me a guy with an .257 OBP. Wait, how many gold gloves has he won? Oh yes, none. Oh yes, and his "awesome" OPS of .698 was 20th in the list of all SS with atleast 200 AB. He also has an ISOD of .022. EDIT: Sorry, I was giving him too much credit. I put that he had a .290 OBP, while infact it was .257. For starters, you're not going to convince anyone with any knowledge of baseball at all that Derek Jeter is a better defensive SS than Juan Uribe. No one. Secondly, that 20th is a completely objectional number to me. How many SS's is that exactly? 30? 40? 60? 100? That 20th could put him in the upper half, which, along with gold glove defense, is pretty goddamn valuable. That ISOD was also the worst of his career. I would put money on that improving next year. He's not disciplined at all, but I going to go out on a limb and say 13 walks will remain a career low for Uribe in a season with atleast 450 PAs. How about his ISO of .206? That's only 17 points lower than Mr. Everything, Joe Crede. Hell, it's 65 points BETTER than AJ Pierzynski's. And you're trying to say he's a trash ballplayer. I would imagine you're the only person on this site that feels that way.
  6. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) Seriously, I am very happy. Not only is he trash on the field, now hes trash OFF the field. F*** gold glove defense and a .700 OPS from a SS. What a horrible player
  7. I have a question to pretty much anyone in general. David Robinson went to Oklahoma out of high school and was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year his freshman year. So why did he transfer to D2 University of South Dakota?
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) What happens if one of our starters go down? Sure, last season McCarthy was available, but what do you do now with his eventual promotion? Our teams lack of depth (ie, piss poor minor league system) is again exposed. Broadway? Haeger? Phillips? Prospects acquired for Garcia/Contreras/whoever? There are plenty of short-term options, and if a long-term solution is needed, KW will find one. It's not as if there are no #5 starters available at any given time. There are no dominant arms within the White Sox minor league system, and no one that is sane would argue that. It doesn't mean there are no #5 starters within the minors, or that are available for cheap or in FA. I have no doubt in my mind that Buehrle will be back with one of his best seasons ever next year. QuesTec is leaving, which was as much of a reason as it was an excuse, along with the fact that he will not only be fully rested, but he will have worked harder this offseason than any in recent memory. Contreras I have nothing for, but I have been an advocate of trading Contreras for quite some time now. I'd almost rather see him traded than Garcia.
  9. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Reality check. The Yankees wouldn't even consider Crede+McCarthy for ARod. Do you think the Yankees want to trade production for potential? Because the value of Crede and McCarthy is basically all potential. Crede has had one good season. And it was just good, certainly not great (.323 OBP and .506 SLG isn't great). McCarthy has had a handful of good starts in the majors and a bad 2005 season. Crede + McCarthy Crede + Garcia + Broadway That's the reality folks, and Cashman knows it. So you are going to try and convince me that a gold glove caliber defensive player who is coming off 2 years where he was very solid(with the exception of May and August in 2005) and just also happens to be a World Series hero, along with a solid starting pitcher and a solid pitching prospect is worth less than a player who has been destroyed by the media in New York, has been horrible in clutch situations, and has been bad defensively at 3B? I'm not gonna buy that, and neither would Cashman. He would take Crede, Garcia, and Broadway in a second and run back to New York laughing his ass off.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) Carpenter is going game 2. K, LaRussa is not dumb, and I wasted 5 more minutes of my life. I'm better now
  11. If it means anything at all, I had Uribe pencilled into SS in an ARod trade that were to involve Crede. But yeah I've kinda cooled off on the whole Crede and SP for ARod.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Yeah, let's all fight about who came up with a deal that makes our team weaker. You know you want to fight too.
  13. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) What about this? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...54893&st=90 I mention Crede and Garcia and I look on page 1 on the sports and whose pictures do I see? Bob BUT I SAID IT FIRST
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) For those who watched espn today, it seems that if the media has picked up on the ARod for Crede and a sp rumors. I am so taking credit for this QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) People wouldn't give up Brandon McCarthy for A-Rod? Wow. This guy better turn out so good that they change the Cy Young Award into the Brandon McCarthy Award. JMO, just another example of people way overrating Brandon McCarthy beyond belief. Crede and McCarthy for ARod puts the Sox at a payroll nearing $120+ million. That's why people aren't giving up McCarthy.
  15. Is Suppan going in game 2 or 3? If he's going in game 2, that's stupid in my mind. You need to get your best pitcher out there as often as possible. Ozzie didn't do much managing last year in the postseason, but what he did do right was putting Contreras in a position to start as many games as possible. If Suppan starts tomorrow, and this goes to game 6 with the Cards down 3-2, how stupid does LaRussa feel?
  16. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) HEY!!! YOU KNOW WHAT!! I'VE HAD IT WITH EVERYONE ON THIS SITE. GOODBYE!! k
  17. ARod is good defensively and actually draws a walk now and then. Soriano will be overpaid and he will be an albatross to whichever teams signs him. He'll be good, but there's no chance he's $14 mill good, let alone $16-18.
  18. it is goooooood living in South Dakota
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) Step One: Spot a tin of spotted dick in the local grocer. Step Two: Stand there and laugh and think, I have to share this with everyone Step Three: Google Heinz spotted dick, didn't want some poor imposter
  20. I just want a manlove session between me and Thome and Thomas can I just get some love?
  21. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) Like Canseco Again, Canseco's 42.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) I think a Wild Card could be the Giants... I could imagine seeing that, but beyond Cain, what COULD they give up that the Yanks would be interested in? I don't see enough talent from San Fran's standpoint to justify the Yankees making a trade. As far as I can tell, Sabean has burned up nearly all the resources that team has.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) I had a feeling someone would bring up the "Crede is getting better every year" argument. How do you figure? 2002:.285/.311/.515 2003:.261/.308/.433 85 point dip in OPS 2004:.239/.299/.418 24 point dip in OPS (109 since) 2005:.252/.303/.454 39 point increase (still 60 down from 2002) 2006:.283/.323/.506 72 point increase (up 12 since 2002) It looks like a parabola to me, but it could also be a cosine curve. God I so hope it's a parabola
  24. I'm wonder one thing... When the hell was the last time the Angels traded for a big time player? I went back as far as 1998, because it's late as hell...but I settled on Gregg Jeffries. They've traded big contracts(Finley, Vaughn, Bottenfield), and they've traded big names(Edmonds, Guillen)...but most of their trades have been minor deals. Stoneman has also been criticized in the past as being a little gunshy, so it just makes me wonder how serious they are. Then again, there's never been a name as big as ARod on the market. We'll see, if ARod is made available for trade in the offseason, if Anaheim truly is interested.
