  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) s***, rub it in if you want. I never gave the Twins a chance this year. If Liriano was healthy, it would be a wrap. If Liriano was healthy, the Twins would have won 105 games. That rotation could seriously be something else in the next couple years. Without Liriano, they're looking at Santana-Bonser-Garza-Baker-whoever. With him, omfg
  2. I would have preferred Cunningham to win, but sooner, rather than later, a pro will win the WSOP Main Event again. Even considering how many people enter yearly now, there will always be enough pros in the tournament that the odds suggest that atleast one of hundreds of pro players will get hot enough over a 10 day period, and will play well enough over the same period, to be able to maintain enough success to reach the final table, and then maybe even win a race or two. Every year there's been a pro that made it to the final table, and I see that trend continuing. Annie Duke constantly talks about how it's a great possibility that a pro will never win the Main Event ever again, but each and every year, a pro or two sneak into the running for the final table. Marcel Luske nearly made it to the final 9 in '04, and Harrington did; Mouth Matusow and Scott Lazar made it in '05, and there were pro players scattered through the top 40(including big names such as Ivey and Juanda), and while this past year featured fewer pros getting as deep as they did last year, you still saw Erik Friberg, Jeffrey Lisandro, and Cunningham finish in the top 20. The day will come, and I'd guess it's within the next 5 years. Also, I figure ESPN made Gold look a lot luckier than he actually was. He was pretty much controlling the tempo and flow of the table, and he wanted to basically see every flop he could. With his chip lead, he could afford that, so in turn, he's going to hit big on hands people aren't normally going to play. Hell, he always had everyone on tilt. Sure he's an asshole...so are a lot of poker players. Due to his assholeness, he won. If he would have been nice and polite at the table, there's not a chance in hell he wins that tournament.
  3. QUOTE(Sox Machine @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) Reading this thread makes me wonder how Sox fans survived in 101 out of the previous 104 years. We're pretty much completely sadistic, by and large. ...and we don't appreciate when our teams do not live up to expectations. This was a playoff bound, 100 win team before the season, because that's what the fans expected. They're not going to win 90 games.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) A TAIL OF TWO SEASONS 4/02/06 - 7/01/06: 16 GS | 111 2/3 | 9-4 W/L | 47:28 K:BB | 12 HR | 3.22 ERA | 1.25 WHIP 7/02/06 - 9/23/06: 16 GS | 92 1/3 | 3-9 W/L | 51:20 K:BB | 24 HR | 7.12 ERA | 1.68 WHIP That tells me Buehrle was in the strike zone way too effin' much.
  5. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Because the Sox have NO bullpen, smart guy. Thome will be the ball 'n chain of this baseball team if he remains here. Get rid of him, now. We need to design our baseball team to compete against Minnesota, Cleveland, and Detroit. Thome is an automatic out batting against lefties. Jenks, Thornton, and MacDougal all suck complete ballsack. Get real. The Sox aren't trading a guy that puts up .290 40 100 .400/.600/1.000 for 2 pitchers that bring no guarantee at all. If this year taught us, as a fan base, anything, it should be that bullpen arms cannot be guaranteed for anything from year to year.
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) :rolly: at the "draft position" excuse. The NL teams have already clinched spots 1-20. Lebron James isn't going to fall to us either. I say, give me the 24th spot in the draft, or give me the 22nd
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) For all the Rowand missers... Get this video and more at MySpace.com Why...WHY? WHY DID THEY HAVE TO USE NICKELBACK AS HIS BACKGROUND MUSIC?
  8. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) We have something to play for ................... 90 Wins the hell with that, all that's doing is putting the Sox in worse draft position. It's one of the few times where I could care less whether the Sox won or lost, because there are good outcomes from either result(so long as everyone stays healthy) Also, just curious, why would the Sox players want to help Detroit? Detroit is kind of the team that kept the White Sox out of the playoffs, so yeahhhhhhhh, um, no
  9. A's Twins Phillies/Dodgers Tigers f*** the Yanks and Mets
  10. Congrats Jim. Your fellow Twins fans may be asses, but you have shown us nothing but class.
  11. wasn't sure where to put this, so here works For the first time in the history of the American League, the Wild Card team came out of the Central division.
  12. QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) some guys have incentive clauses if they get to various milestones....besides 6 games at teh end of the year against the indians AAAers and probably the twins AAAers wont tell us much about our youngsters...so im ok if ozzie has the everyday lineup out there...especially against the twins, cuz i want them to end up with teh WC and not division So it's OK to put the core players out there for next year's team and put them at any sort of risk for injury? It's just not smart to play them, especially Crede and Thome, when there's nothing on the line. Putting out Fields, Sweeney, Owens, and whoever else works out extremely well. The Indians team on the field now will probably be similar to the team they will put out next year, and Minnesota's still fighting for home field advantage, as well as not having to go to New York. Both teams will play their regulars. That's pretty much good experience for the young players, even if it's only for 5 games. Also, by putting them out there, you are putting them at any risk for injury, rather than Thome, Crede, Pierzynski, Dye, Konerko, etc. It sounds a bit cruel, but prospects can be replaced within the organization pretty easily, whereas it's a little more costly to bring in .300 hitting catchers, .300 30 100, GG defensive 3Bman, and 40+ homer players at any position.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 01:35 AM) However, this offseason, I'm willing to accept any "building on the fly" scenario. I find it rather troublesome Minnesota continued their success without Liriano. Or Detroit's pitching, even if regression were to occur, have decent pitching prospects available. Cleveland still can't be overlooked and Kansas City has baseball minds running their organization now. I'm just not too optimistic about next year. I don't feel comfortable HOPING Buehrle, Contreras, Garland all improve. Or McCarthy locates his rhythm last observed in September of 2005. If it were my decision, I'd trade Buehrle for a variety of blue-chip SP prospects and bullpen pieces; and Garcia for a lesser of the aforementioned proposal. Perhaps concentrate on a catching or middle infield prospect with whichever team desires Freddy. With McCarthy/Haegar in a rotation, the salary left could be used to sign a shortstop/backupC. My thinking, and I'm certain many disagree, is we're ultimately going to fall short with anything short of a miraculous ressurection within the rotation. Some may BELIEVE that's going to occur, but I'd rather manage under the realm of reality and realize these pitchers don't possess the talent we may have believed. The division from bottom up is steadily progressing towards respectability. No longer can bank on guaranteed wins against Kansas City or Cleveland. Not that we ever did (esp. KC), but the time has past where our division record will reach an absurd, 2005 level. I'll take a mediocre season if it prepares us beyond 07'. If Haegar/McCarthy fail miserably, atleast they're doing it for 18 million less than Buehrle and Garcia. If Buehrle rebounds, let him do it in the national league. I'd rather receive something for him now. And I know someone is bound to mention our payroll, with the addition of a record setting attendance, inspiring Williams to "go for it" another season. I'll entertain such a thought for a brief moment. Go to Cheat's blog. Look at the figures. Applying estimated arbitration numbers and conservative substractions (esp. Garica), we're around 94 million. Still without a backup catcher, legitimate SS, backup IF, RP to replace Riske. Does 6-11 million ultimately cover this? There's not nearly as much money left as people may believe. Flash, my main beef with rebuilding this offseason is that you are simply completely tearing the team apart. Obviously, that's the point of rebuilding, but why rebuild when 24 pieces of the main 25-man are under control of the White Sox for 2007? In my mind, 2007 is the last real chance this team has to make a lot of noise. After that, Buehrle, Dye, Garcia, and Iguchi are all free agents(those off the top of my head). After 2008, you're looking at Garland, Vazquez, Crede, and Pierzynski, with Contreras and Thome's deals ending after 2009. If the core group is going to remain together, you may as well go balls out and try and win one last time, or atleast that's what I figure. It's hard to figure anything the rotation will do next year. One can ultimately hope that Buehrle's not necessarily injured, but rather just worn down from throwing nearly 500 innings over the past 2 seasons. Garcia will almost undoubtedly be mediocre again next year, but one can hope that if indeed his velocity magically returns in his contract year, and his splitter is for real, he is worth keeping. Garland's shown a pair in the second half, and one can only hope he can maintain that type of consistency over a year's time. Contreras has been inconsistent since his return from the DL, about as inconsistent as headcase Jose was in 2004, but one can hope that he returns to 2005 Ace Jose. Vazquez too has been very good in the second half, and one can only hope his comfort level is at the point where he will pitch well all year. We'll have to see about that. (I noticed one key idea in the previous paragraph...it's not a good thing) I personally think the easiest pitcher to trade is Contreras at this point. He still has near full value, coming off a good year again with people undoubtedly still remembering his 2005 postseason performance, and he has more than 1 year remaining on his contract, unlike Buehrle and Garcia. The problem is the fact that he has a complete no-trade clause in 2007; me not being a lawyer, and not having the exact contract in front of me, and not being in the room when the contract was discussed, I'm not sure if 2007 kicks in at 12:00 AM on 01/01/07, or if it kicks in the second the World Series ends. Another problem in trading Contreras is that you get little value to no value out of Garcia, because if you are competing in 2007, he's not going anywhere at the deadline. And let's not just shrug off the offense and pretend it sucked ass. It sucked ass when the guys at the top of the order weren't getting on base, and the players in general were not getting into scoring position. Bring in Rollins, bring in Catalanotto, and that problem vanishes in a heartbeat. I'm not sure how available Rollins is from Philadelphia, but if they for whatever reason can't unload Burrell, I think he has to be the main trade bait in Philly. Catalanotto's a free agent, so he would be a little easier to sign. My other main beef with rebuilding is the fan base. The White Sox organization just set an attendance record due to last season's accomplishments. Why turn on the entire fan base and rebuild 1 season after you won a World Series? It's not financially smart to rebuild now.
  14. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Read my post again. Those are the AL teams who aren't set on a DH Yeah. It's still 9 teams. What are the odds that 1 of those 9 teams will take a risk on a guy that's going to guarantee them 400 PAs of 1.000 OPS and .450 OBP, as well as a sh*tload of publicity?
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=behrens/060925 Greasy, work some voodoo magic and change that to Sox colors, cuz that would make an amazing wallpaper
  16. My bench remark looks stupid right now. I should probably read the whole thread before I make such comments. I'll take that back. I still will not buy the tired excuse. Sure they're tired...but they aren't going to convince me that 29 other teams aren't mentally and physically exhausted either.
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) Then why did Boston make the playoffs last year. Honestly greg, a lot of that had to do with the AL being weak last year. There were arguably 6 good teams in the AL last year(New York, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Anaheim, and maybe Oakland)...Oakland was mediocre at the end of the season, and Cleveland choked something huge, leaving 4 teams at the end. Boston was pretty much a Grady Sizemore catch away from being home in October. This year, there was New York, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Minnesota, Chicago, Anaheim, and Oakland. Those two added teams really did make it that much more difficult to get in, and it just drained the Sox. I don't buy the tired excuse either. If they're tired, use the bench...it's not like EVERY person on the team won a ring last year. In fact, it's quite the opposite, as KW tried to bring in plenty of new blood(I count 9 guys off the top of my head who were not on the team last year that were on the team come August) to try and keep the team hungry, and he improved the bench in order for Ozzie to use them to keep the players fresh down the stretch. That's not going to do much when Ozzie virtually refuses to rest his big guns and he wears the holy piss out of his rotation. As a result, you saw the rotation break down this year, and you saw all the big bats go cold when the pitching was starting to rebound. Next year will be different. A better leadoff hitter will be a hell of a start, and the rotation can't pitch any worse than it did this year. The Sox could bring another trophy to Chicago come next October, because as much as some think the Sox are in a world of hurt for next year, it appears to me that they are in good shape, with only one free agent(without an option). This was a very good team that never gelled, for whatever reason. If they had, they would have won the division running away.
  18. Bell Bottom Blues - Derek and the Dominoes
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) If Bonds can't find a legit team, a team like the drays would definitely take him as he'd bring them in way too much money to pass up. Could you imagine him wearing a DRays uniform? I giggle at the thought of it, honestly
  20. And if I got in this, I would like the Royals.
  21. I just registered, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Also, is it locked so that the ratings can't go over 100? Cuz if they could go over 100, that would be awwwwesome
  22. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Who would take him out of the Angels, Rangers, Mariners, Twins, Tigers, Royals, Blue Jays, Devil Rays, or Orioles??? You do realize you just listed 9 teams, right?
  23. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Unless no one picks him up and/or he misses significant time to injury He needs 22 more homers to pass Aaron. You get him out of Pac Bell and into a DH role, and not only is he going to hit more just due to the size of the park, but he's going to be rested much, much more. I'd probably expect him to be about as healthy as Thome has been this year, and Thome's been healthy enough to hit 42 bombs with a couple games left.
  24. It's pretty much gonna happen...it just depends on what team he is with next year.
  25. Figure I'll go out of my way... Congrats to the Tigers fans. I just wish the Sox had a chance to play with them in October. Maybe next year.
