  1. I blame it on Tony Phillips. And Mike Caruso, just because Kalapse has a mancrush on him
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Buehrle isn't going to win 15 games this year. So much for that guarentee. The Sox have won 5 no decisions by Buehrle, all of which were quality starts besides the first game of the year against Cleveland, in which the rain delay killed any chance he had at a win. I'll stick by my 15, even if he doesn't win 15 himself.
  3. ... Nice to see them win...would have been better about, oh, 4 games ago.
  4. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) METSSSSSSSSSSSSS The only thing good about that prediction is the man in your sig OMG WHAT A SEXY SUNOFBEECH
  5. Buehrle guarantees you 15 wins, 220 innings, and an 3 good months. It'd be assinine not to pick up his option
  6. Flash, I hate to do this, because right now it seems ridiculous...but would the Yankees win the AL Central? Mediocre starting pitching, mediocre bullpen up until the closer, and an amazing lineup. In my mind, that is a team that would win any division in baseball. Obviously, the Sox do not have an offense quite as good as the Yankees right now, but with just 1-2 big additions(in my mind, Crawford and Rollins), that lineup goes from inconsistent to one of the best in the league again, with more than one dimension, which apparently some people love, but also more potent than this year's lineup. Along the same lines, that allows for Sweeney and/or Fields...dependent upon the price to bring in Crawford/Rollins...to season a bit further in AAA, so if/when the Sox do blow it up, those two are ready to step onto the big league club and make a difference right away, instead of going through the Anderson struggle period(hopefully). And if they do struggle right away, so what, they're rebuilding. The problem of course is how to acquire those two, but the point remains the same that, in my mind, a rotation of Garland-Vazquez-Buerhle-Contreras-McCarthy would win a division with a lineup that can hit any and all pitching. It's just a matter of execution. When they blow it up, you see a Cleveland Indian/Florida Marlin blow-up, and any and all talent that is close to the majors is brought in and given a shot to contribute to the team.
  7. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 08:16 AM) I really think Sox fans need to stop thinking that Jermaine Dye will get any MVP consideration, he won't. Jeter will be MVP. Don't even tease yourself thinking the most boring player in the league who went into a slump when his team needed him the most will get any consideration, he won't. Who was the last MVP to come from a 3rd place team? A-Rod? Yeah, Dye is no A-Rod, he has no shot at MVP, just give it up. Also, in reality, the Sox have been out of the playoffs for awhile now. I think alot of you are just realizing it and alot of you are refusing to realize it, but they are done. Best 3rd place team in baseball though. there's the old poppy I knew and loved
  8. 1. Oakland 2. LA 3. San Diego 4. Minnesota 5. St. Louis 6. Detroit 7. New York, NL 8. New York, AL FAWK THE YANKS Oakland is obvious in my mind. Go Frank I have always loved what Minnesota has done, and there's something about Detroit that I just do not like(and it's not the fans..........OR issssssss it? nah just messin guys). I love the Dodgers, like the Padres, and give me anything but New York-New York. Hell, I would party if neither New York team made it. If it's a New York-New York World Series, the TV is off.
  9. 3 other times in the past 50 years(that's all I can guarantee) 1. Milwaukee Braves v. Cincinnati, June 8, 1961, 7th inning. (Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Joe Adcock, Frank Thomas) 2. Cleveland Indians v. L.A. Angels, July 31, 1963, 2nd game, 6th inning. (Woody Held, Pedro Ramos, Tito Francona, Larry Brown) 3. Minnesota Twins v. Kansas City Royals, May 2, 1964, 11th inning. (Tony Oliva, Bob Allison, Jimmie Hall, Harmon Killebrew) Edit: ESPN says 4th time ever, so I win
  10. QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) don't forget, we still got 4 games with SEATLE.. a team who doesn't look to take revange agisnt the sox like the other central teams. so we can easily take 3 of 4 from them. and if we could take all 4.... *DROOLS* if it helps you sleep better at night, i won't stop it
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) Just cause wite can't do math doesn't make his point any less significant. its late, the sox are done-skees, and i dont care so yay for the Bills
  12. But it is ovER. They have to 6 games to pick up with 12 remaining. That means if the Sox went 12-0 from this point forward, Minnesota would have to go 6-6. That's not gonna happen, period. We've been waiting for this team to hit their stride for 3 months now, and they haven't found it. It's pointless for them to find it with 2 weeks left in the season, because they'll come up short. It's over. Period. Deal with it and wait for the postseason to roll around.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) It would also mean a playoff spot, I noticed something today. 2005 = Rowand 2006 = Anderson 2005 = World Series 2006 = Disapointment Coincidence? I THINK NOT! You have to remember last year's team was built solely on chemistry, the #1 producer of said chemistry??? AARON ROWAND. The Sox should look to bring in John Dalton
  14. lol If they win out, they'll need help. It's not gonna happen
  15. Ozzie Guillen, your team has lost 4 straight games and pretty much any shot at a playoff birth. What do you have to say? "I don't like Brian Anderson." STFU Ozzie, honestly. He's a rookie who plays very good defense in CF and started hitting better in the 2nd half, but you refused to play him and give him a shot to do anything at all because you hate rookies. I'd say you should worry about like 10 other players on this team that have just completely crapped their pants and done very little in the 2nd half, rather than your #9 hitter.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Oh, I think he might just be around here somewhere . . . OH SNAP
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) I'd suspect it'll be an anonymous source like a Riske or somebody not worth a s*** anyway. If it's anonymous, how will we know if it's someone worth a s*** or not?
  18. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) So I cant cheer for the guy and wish him the best? Thats Foolish talk if you think I want him to beat us every chance he can. Frank is going to hit the SOX and any other team no matter what. Him having a great weekend against us and putting the nail in the SOX coffin is the SOX own fault, they shouldnt have given away all those games this year. I could think of WORSE players getting hits on us. You were happy for Thomas, the weekend he and the A's basically knocked the Sox out of the playoffs. Again, I ask, how sick is that? I'm happy as hell the big man is having a great rebound year...that doesn't change the fact that I'm pissed as hell he killed the Sox this weekend. Thanks for making me do research I didn't really care to do. The Sox won the division by 20 games in 1983, which was also Yastremski's last season. You'd be sick not to cheer for one of the greatest players of a generation in a game that means virtually nothing.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Speaking of Dye batting 3rd, the offense has went completely in the tank since we switched up the order. Now, I know there is no direct correlation between the two, I just wanted to point out that as bad as Ozzie has been, not making that lineup switch earlier didn't hurt this team at all like some had suggested. I notice two trends about the lineup recently 1. When Podsednik is in, he rarely does anything. Anything. At all. 2. When Gload is in, he is on base all the time. Yet, Pods has received like 4 times as much playing time in the second half; for what reason, I am clueless.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) There are players in the league that are a threat at the plate regardless if anyone is on base or not. Thome wasn't one of them on the last couple of months (IMO). Besides, Dye batted in front of Jim for quite some time now. JD's been on base quite often. Quite some time is not August. Thome hit 3rd until he went down.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) Although his August OPS was good did you really consider him a major threat at the plate? I sure didn't. Seems like clutch hits were few and far between in the 2nd half. Who could honestly be a threat at the plate when the two guys in front of him are getting on base at a .284 and .310 clip? Solo homers and 2 out doubles don't scare me, I'll tell you that for sure
  22. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) thats really not a good comparison. one guy wanted a ton of money ........ the other just wanted to stay a Sox forever ................ But if he truly cared about the Sox, he would have realized that the Sox no longer had room for him. How many times did the Sox go out of their way to satisfy Frank? He had two bad years in a row, followed by a great year, and they rewarded him with a very lucrative contract. They invoked the diminished skills clause, only to end up resigning him to a 1 year deal with 3 mutual options attached. They then retained him after the 2004 season, when it appeared he had a very bad ankle injury that could threaten his career. The fact remains, he is not a member of the White Sox, yet you were happy to see him pretty much eliminate the Sox from contention. How sick is that?
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Well, almost no game in the NFL is actually "Easy" these days. But at least this season, I think that's a game the Bears should still win, because I think the Bills are 1 year away. They have a ton of talent on that team, especially on defense, adn what looks to be a solid coaching staff, but the one problem is that they're still young. That coaching staff has only been there a few games, Losman is still finding out where he should be, and the offensive line is still working on playing together. Another draft and another year of development from Losman, and they've got a shot to be scary. But I think Losman is still at the "Manage games but don't lose them" stage, and to be dominant the team will need him to win a few. The Bears should win that game, and they're going to win it on the lines...the Bills offensive line especially I don't think will be able to hold up to that Bears defensive front. I definitely agree on all accounts here. A year of working together, and an offseason to add some pieces via draft and FA, and the Bills could challenge whoever for the AFC East next year, and I think 6-7 wins is possible this year.
  24. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) but he isnt a Contact/UseAllPartsoftheField guy like Thomas was. In 2003, the year you are comparing, I seem to remember almost every home run Thomas hit was pulled. Also, just so you're aware... 2002 - 115 K's 2003 - 115 K's Hell of a contact hitter he was back in the day
  25. Don't you guys just love it when Magglio Ordonez beats the hell out of the White Sox? That'll show KW for not signing him, even though he was a huge injury concern and didn't really fit into the teams plans this year. But man, he is just so good...seeing him help the Tigers kill the Sox rally in July just brought a smile to my face.
