  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) [/b] Um..? I'm a dumbass and knew what I meant and typed the wrong thing. New York is playing well right now too. Minnesota is playing so-so...they played well before KC came to town, and then the offense decided to take a s***, so it's hard to make judgement on them. Then again, the Sox could have easily been swept by the DRays this past series, and were just flat out lucky enough to have like twice the talent Tampa had.
  2. I'll also mention that there are only like 2 teams in the entire AL(that have a shot in hell) that are playing good baseball right now - Oakland and Minnesota - and neither effect our race.
  3. David Wells' locker is empty in Boston. My barber's cousin's plumber's sister's friend's mother's boss's wife's son said it is the White Sox, but stay tuned.
  4. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) I think he might get 4-80, since he is in the cream of the crop, and Boras is his agent $20 mill a year for a pitcher who has NEVER had a WHIP below 1.10? A career ERA of 3.51? Pedro Martinez got $13 mill a year over 4 years...no way in hell Zito gets $7 mill more than that. $20 mill is set aside for the best players in the game, period.
  5. QUOTE(shipps @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) hes hitting .348 with risp.but yes only .262 risp w/2 outs.he is still pretty damn dangerous when the game is on the line.i wouldnt say he sucks. lol, i was really just goofing around. He actually has been pretty bad in clutch situations, as shown by Kalapse...I actually didn't know that...but atleast when he hits it it goes a long ways, I guess.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:57 AM) Bad news for the Twins. Radke will miss his next start. I'll be surprised if he's able to give them anything the rest of the season. Do Cortisone shots help reduce pain for anything?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:32 AM) Well Ive heard them connected to some big names coming in f/a. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) The Cubs add a couple overpaid relievers to a team with much more pressing needs, give up 2-3 good arms for Juan Pierre who was mediocre as hell the year before, and keep the same horrible manager they've had since 2003. They regressed in 2004 and 2005, and are bad again this year. He's ruined their young arms, and yet they keep him. They lie about injuries. They are always "interested" in big name players in free agency and trades, yet always settle for worse. They charge fans to watch games from the roof of a neighboring building. Need I go on? Someone's drinking the Kool-Aid
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) This is not a fact. THOME SUCKS WHEN IT IS LATE IN THE GAME, AND SUCKS WORSE WITH RISP
  9. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Most of that was the Randy Smith era, who was horrible! With Dave Dombrowski at the helm now, they are now a good organization. agreed They have been trying to win. Stockpiling talent, be it through trades, free agent signings, waiver wire, or just being bad enough to have great draft positions. They also hired a hometown guy to bring a little energy to the team and the city. They found out later that he was just a straight up horrible manager. The Cubs add a couple overpaid relievers to a team with much more pressing needs, give up 2-3 good arms for Juan Pierre who was mediocre as hell the year before, and keep the same horrible manager they've had since 2003.
  10. I take back everything I've ever said about Thome being our MVP. Thome's prescence didn't win this game tonight(well, it sorta did, but no). Without Dye, this is a loss, plain and simple. Dye is the MVP of this team and on the year. Yes, I changed my mind because of 1 game.
  11. The Kansas City Royals are 35-47 since Allard Baird was fired. It's below .500, but considering the pitching they have...
  12. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Hmmmm. I look in the Tribune today and this is what the blurb says: " The Tigers called up lefthanded pitcher Andrew Miller from ClassA Lakeland, where he struck out nine in five innings.........The 21 year old was ....first round pick in the June draft after going 13-2 ....at North Carolina." Nowhere does it mention his contract status, his having signed a special deal, nor that he must be called up or else. I think it was safe for me to assume 5 innings of work might be rushing the guy. So that gives you the right to compare a good organization like the Tigers to a horses*** organization like the Cubs?
  13. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) I didnt know he signed a deal like that. It sounded like the Tigers were rushing him here ..... Which is why you should read more into these topics before making such bold accusations.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) The good thing about having an 8:00 lecture class and 6 hours until my next is I am able to finish homework for the next day and do laundry. lol, something similar happened to me today. I was going to my BEGINNER'S GOLF class at 12, got to the course, and the instructor said there was no class, and to come back Thursday. My next class was at 2, so I went back to the dorm and just straightened our room out a little bit.
  15. If you can throw Mark Redman at them for the rest of the season, yes, they're done. They can't hit the soft s***. Anything above 90 they hit. You think there's a reason they hit Vazquez and Contreras but got shutdown by Buehrle? They can't hit junkballers.
  16. glad to see a good pitching performance. w.t.f. atleast we got the win; atleast the offense hit the crap out of a horrible pitching staff; atleast Garland is going tomorrow
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) IMHO, and I understand those who disagree, for a DH to pass a position player for MVP, the DH has to be a magnitude higher than the position player. Not just a little better. It better be substantially better. I think Dye is close enough that he would get the nod. I agree with your observation about Thome, his hitting, and his impact. I would also add, Thome has probably made Dye better. I wouldn't call last year's offense horrible. I understand the whole DH doesn't play the field argument...but without the addition of Thome, this offense is not much better, if it's better at all, than last year's offense. And what's a 1Bman do anyways...catch the ball, field the ball, hold the runner on, and occasionally field a bunt? They have value defensively, but not nearly the value any other position does defensively. Be it right or wrong, I basically lump 1Bman an dDH into the same category when comparing them in the MVP. Aruging Dye and Thome's a little different though, as Dye does play a more important position defensively, and he plays it pretty well. However, I think Thome's prescense in the lineup outweighs what Dye would have done without Thome in the lineup. It's hard to judge, because by and large it's just my opinion that Thome has helped the entire lineup. And while last year's offense wasn't horrible persay, it wasn't good. 9th in runs scored, 11 in average, 11 in OBP, and a team OPS+ of 95. Those are all pretty much the most telling offensive stats, and all are in the lower 3rd. They were 3rd in the AL in stolen bases with 137, 59 of which were stolen by Podsednik; however, they led the league in caught stealing last year, which is obviously horrible.
  18. Thome-Garland As much as I have been ragging on Jim Thome's philosophy offensively and saying it is the reason the Sox are swinging for the fences again, I think his prescence alone has helped many in this lineup have the years they've had, and it is one of the main reasons the Sox are as good offensively as they are. The Sox made 2 changes on the offense, and they go from horrible to a powerhouse overnight? There's one guy I can think of. I'm also tempted to just give MVP to Garland too. That man has MAHBLES. Dye's been amazing too...I just look at MVP as most valuable player, not best stats for a hitter.
  19. 31-1, Sox go on a 15-game 1-run winning streak, lose 50-1, and then win 16 more 1-run games in a row. All the experts call the Sox lucky, and we all laugh and drink champagne
  20. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) I cant believe I got excited when rumors were floating arounf last year that Kris Benson might be in a Twins uni the Twins are teeing off on him. Mauer with a double and triple and Morneau with a HR and its only the 3rd inning lol, Pittsburgh wanted Morneau for him, but Minnesota was only offering Mientkiewicz I wonder why Ryan would do that
  21. QUOTE(loltrain @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Pulling a 2005 Pulling a 2004 too...they were within a game and a half of Minnesota, and just choked when they actually played Minnesota I WONDER WHAT THEY'LL DO THIS YEAR
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) Fogg was even worse than the crap we threw out there in 2002, however your right about Wells. Wells only went 12-14 in 2002, but he had a very solid 3.58 ERA in 198 innings, and damn that woulda helped out the rotation. Well, would you have rather had Fogg or the quartet of Gary Glover, Rocky Biddle, Jon Rauch, and Jim Parque? I would have taken the former, but all is moot now.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Beane should also get credit for knowing which guys to keep. It isn't just being at the helm when a guy is drafted, but the longer development cycle as well. Frank? I am so glad to see him pounding baseballs. Not first ballot. He spent too much time as a DH. Not saying it's fair, accurate, or the right thing to do. Just saying that would be a breakthrough (DH) that Frank's media relations would not help happen. Good call Tex. Both Mulder and Hudson were very solid last year, but had very mediocre WHIPs in a mediocre NL, and now both are pitching very poorly this year. That was a hell of a call on his part. Zito hasn't been an ace, but I'd say he's probably a solid #1 or #2 right now, and was for the A's the past 2 years. Good recognition by him to keep Zito knowing his team was pretty solid all-around this year, even if he loses him for draft picks come winter.
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Gotta have 5, though. Tough choices to make, but I'll go with: 1. Sox on October 26, 2005 2. Sox on October 25, 2005 3. Sox on October 24, 2005 4. Marlins on October 14, 2003 5. Sox on October 23, 2005 As a check on yourself, always make sure your list is as balanced. Like mine. touche honorable mentions are of course Sox on Sepember 20, 2005 Sox on October 4, 5, and 7, 2005 Sox on October 12, 14, 15, and 16, 2005 But September 20 was a really good team. Like probably 6.
