Rowand helps Phillies with comeback win!
witesoxfan replied to WinningUgly85's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 4, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Very nice to see him doing well, hopefully he keeps it up (although it won't be very noticed since Philly BLOWS). I agree And they still have a chance of making the playoffs, because everyone and their mothers have a chance making the playoffs in the NL. As for the Jeter argument...his average season is .314 18 81 23 .386/.461/.847. That says elite to me, and if not elite, probably one step below. Those are acceptable numbers from a 1Bman, let alone a SS. -
QUOTE(ThinWhiteDuque @ May 5, 2006 -> 02:32 AM) By the way, he went 3-5 in his first game with the Marlins, thereby surpassing the totals hits that he accumulated during his entire tenure with the Pale Sox. Do you mean Mariners? He had 57 hits in a White Sox uniform, whereas he had 2 as a Mariner. Also, I do wish him the best. Living proof that hard-work doesn't always equal success.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 2, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) This again proves Jerry Seinfeld's "rooting for laundry" theory on team sports. Exactly. Perfect analogy. That's why Frank is indeed gonna get booed. I honestly don't care what happens to Frank after his first AB back. If he is not cheered in his first AB, then I am personally gonna be pissed at a lot of Sox fans.

QUOTE(SoxRock05 @ May 4, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I believe we were 23-5 after 28. But that was last year and this is this year. Just as long as we make it 23-8 by Sunday's end after beating up on the aweful Royal's...then we will be 1 behind last years pace after 31 games (24-7). Bout halfway down ws101 is winnar

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ May 4, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) alright guys there is nothing wrong with blowing people out my worry is that jim thome and paul konerko won't stay on fire the entire year in that case I think we have to be able scratch across a run, and if our entire team tries to be a hero when the bats aren't hot (don't pretend it will never happen) going for homeruns won't work You remember August and the first half of September last year? That's what happens when the Sox offense stops homering. As bad as it seemed, there was still enough pitching to come out just under .500 during that rough ass stretch with an offense a minor league team could outscore. Add another bat to the lineup and some depth to the bench, along with more starting pitching, and you have more wins for the time that the offense goes dead.
-
Yeah the Sox offense probably does rely too much on home runs. So does the Yankees', and people are saying it's going to be one of the best ever, and I agree. The Sox 20 wins and .714 winning percentage says it's OK.

I would hate to be a Twins fan right now. They kicked our ass from 01-04, so we should be loving this suckiness from them...but no team should lose 1-0 to the Royals. If it's not their pitching, it's their hitting; if it's not their hitting, it's their pitching; and, now and then when they play Detroit, it's both. I hate to see the underdog lose, even if they were a once hated rival. Hopefully they figure out that Kubel would be hitting 4th or 5th in that lineup right now and would be raking sooner rather than later.

Mario Williams to be #1 Pick

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) The thing that's bothering me, if I were a Texans fan, I'd be sitting here driving myself insane wondering why the Hell they didn't try to trade down? How much do you think other teams would have given up to get their hands on Bush? Go talk to the Jets, you could have gotten the #3 pick this year, and a couple of future #1's. Or the Packers. Get yourself AJ Hawk & a bunch of other picks. You probably could have found someone to do a Herschel Walker type mortgage to get their hands on Bush. I understand the principle behind that move, but if there's such a huge consensus #1 pick like Reggie Bush, and you decide you're not going to take him, why not get something else as a bonus for passing on him? Hell I bet if nothing else the Saints would have given up something in exchange for swapping picks. And it would have saved the Texans even more money on the contract. I think Houston wanted either Bush or Williams. Those were the only two they wanted. By trading down to even 3, they are losing out on Williams guaranteed, because New Orleans seemed pretty much dead set on Williams or trade down. They feel both are worthy of being the #1 pick, but with everything considered, Williams was more valuable to them than Bush. -
QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Ok, btu what im saying is, he has had one bad year and people say he's done. Why not give him one more year before peopl get all over him, and calling him a drama queen is just plain stupid. Everyone has some drama Where's Marvin Harrison's drama? Where's Tom Brady's drama? Where's Julius Peppers' drama? I.DON'T.SEE.IT. Not everyone has drama. Those that want it will get it.

Mario Williams to be #1 Pick
witesoxfan replied to SoxFanForever's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Kubiak was the offensive coordinator for Denver. The last time Denver drafted a running back in the first round was like friggin 1932. This is pretty much all starting to make sense. -
Mario Williams to be #1 Pick
witesoxfan replied to SoxFanForever's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Sanity proves victorious. You just signed Dominack Davis to an extension, and you're going to draft a back #1 overall? Uh, ok...? That made no sense to me from the beginning. This pick does make sense. They have a horseshart defense, and a defensive player that's normally going to be 1 on every board in any other year is available to you, it's obvious to me who you take. Houston fans may be pissed right now, but I don't think they will be come 2007 when they have one of the best defensive players in the league. Williams seems to be a quietly confident type of player who just busts balls to get better. There's obviously a bit of ego there, but his head isn't a friggin balloon. These are the types of players I want to not only succeed, but to become elite players - and I am not just talking about football here. I am talking any type of sport at all. What will be fun to watch for is to see who does indeed get Bush now. I love Bush as a player too, and think he's going to be a dynamic back in the league for quite some time. If I were a betting man, I'm putting money on Green Bay...not that I am a fan of that, but that's what I figure ends up happening. I think the Jets are probably the team most interested in that spot other than Green Bay, and from what I can tell of Mangini, he wants to build from within the draft, collecting as many picks as he can. You are not going to accomplish that goal very well by trading up. -
Five teams have 2 or more pitchers in this list. Of those five teams, only one of them has atleast one pitcher in the top 7...and that team has 3 guys in the top 7. How 'bout that Kenny Williams guy anyways? I do love fun with numbers

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) Record's eight games, right? Yeah Griffey, Mattingly, and maybe one more...can't remember if it is one more or not. The last guy to get 7 was Thome.

QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) TO isnt a QB, and plus Favre doesnt play the game for breaking records. Are you going to try and say that this whole ordeal of whether Favre was going to play or not and the amount of time it took to make the decision was not a soap opera? They extended his deadline like 2 or 3 times. That's freaking ridiculous. Calling him the queen may be a bit over the top, because there may be others you can argue(although at this point, I can't think of any off the top of my head), but that doesn't mean it was not a soap opera. Also, a queen is inferior to a king. Therefore: King of soap operas = TO Queen of soap operas = Favre

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) I would say 3/5 of our starters in the rotation are fly ball pitchers. Who would those be? GO/AO ratios of the starting rotation Buehrle - 2004 1.46; 2005 1.30; 2006 1.46; career 1.31 Garcia - 2004 1.07; 2005 1.47; 2006 0.63; career 1.24 Contreras - 2004 0.95; 2005 1.08; 2006 1.03; career 1.09 Garland - 2004 1.25; 2005 1.38; 2006 0.84; career 1.30 Vazquez - 2004 0.80; 2005 1.20; 2006 0.83; career 0.97 (some of those may be off...namely Contreras and Garcia in 2004 along with Vazquez's career total, because MLB doesn't list those, my checks weren't agreeing with MLB's numbers, and I'm too lazy to do the research to figure it all out...but you get the idea) As far as I can tell, 4/5 of the rotation is groundball pitchers...or at the very least, 3 are groundball pitchers and 2 are relatively neutral. It's just that 3 of them have been flyball pitchers so far this year...over the next couple months, I would be very surprised if that didn't even out.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) I guess I'm the only one that thinks a fan can only root for one team. Are we talking fan of one team as in you can't like any other team but 1 team, or in that you have 1 primary team that you cheer for, but you also have others that you like but aren't necessarily a fan of them?

Kobe to wear number 24 next year
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Number of assists he will have next year? Number of shots he will average per half? Number of games the Lakers will win? One can only hope. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Is that an upgrade? Haha. Of course it is. Must be the weather All joking aside, it really is...atleast for me. Growing up in South Dakota, I could actually go into regular bars with my parents...I remember I would hang out at the bowling alley watching my dad as an 11-12 year old and then going into the bar after he was done, eating some popcorn, and watching some baseball. Hell, my friends and I ate in sports bars by ourselves. I move up here and find out I can't eat in a sports bar with my parent because you can't be in a bar if you're under 21 no matter what? Uhh...ok. Pretty big change, and I've never really grown accustomed to it. That, and I'll be so much closer to Chicago...only like 500 miles away

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) The blind hate of some of you guys for Favre is ridiculous. Hate? He'll be 37 in October, he had a bad year last year with a mediocre OLine and mediocre weapons, and the Packers have done nothing really to improve that situation. I'm not sure where you're getting the hate...I can see happiness because they feel he is washed up and won't lead the Packers to many victories...that I agree with...but I don't think they hate him. I think it's impossible to hate him, unless you hate him because he is a Packer and he has killed you for years. What did AJP do to warrant Sox fans hate for 3 years? What has Torii Hunter done, aside from hitting the s*** out of Jamie Burke, to warrant hate from Sox fans? Nothing, except where a rival's jersey. It's easy to understand why Bears and Vikings fans would hate Favre. Sox fans hate Twins players for the exact same reason, and that occurs throughout sports. I don't hate Tom Brady at this point...but when the Bills actually had a chance in hell of being a decent team, I didn't like him a whole hell of a lot...and for that matter, I still don't really like him. Doesn't mean he's a bad guy, doesn't mean the hate is deserved...but he's a New England Patriot, and they are in the same division as the Bills. Therefore, I don't like him.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) I think he was just lukewarm on Losman... who genuinely sucks. After exactly 2 years in the league. :rolly The NFL is in a sad state right now, where if a QB does not produce, does not know the intricacies of an NFL offense, doesn't read a defense well after 2 years, he sucks. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Losman, I wasn't a huge fan of the Bills trading up to get Losman. But to say the guy not only sucks, but genuinely sucks? That's like saying the White Sox were stupid for putting Brian Anderson into CF because he sucks. That's low. Give him some type to grow and mature as a QB in the NFL. If he can't do it after 2-3 years of starting, then you look to replace him, and I don't think you do until then.
