Hells yesssssssss, go Jai Lewis. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) We got T.O. for those redzone situations. When you're down 2 with 3 seconds left in the 4th quarter while you're on the 27 yardline? I don't think so.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) You know, all things considered, I'd still take a Healthy Thome over a Healthy Thomas. Even including money plus the price to get the player as well? Not a chance in hell I do then. Give me Thomas. If both are guaranteed to be healthy, I take Thomas, use him as my DH, let PK go to Anaheim or Baltimore, and then trade Anderson/Rowand along with Gio and Haig to Florida for Delgado. I then have the lefty bat I needed, and, if I'm thinking right here, a little bit more money to use than the Sox did this offseason...perhaps enough to save from dealing Vizcaino in the deal to Arizona for Vazquez...or also perhaps keeping Duque, and using him as a swingman. Multiple impossibilities I could ponder upon...but everything I've said is pretty much a waste because there's about no chance in hell Thomas is healthy, so it's all a moot point.

A's trade Juan Cruz to D-backs for Brad Halsey
witesoxfan replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Cruz sucks. He came up thru the Cubs system and did crappy. He only did good in Atlanta, b/c of Leo Mazzone, as most pitchers do, and then he returned to suckiness last year Cruz has friggin amazing pure stuff. I'm not surprised in the least that Kenny wanted him. Sometimes it takes a little while for a pitcher like Cruz to catch on...hell, look at Salomon Torres...he didn't have a good year until he was 30, but in 3 of the past 4 years he has been a very good pitcher for Pittsburgh. Cruz is entering his prime years, so we'll see what happens over the next couple years. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/basebal...sports-baseball Put him and first base and "forget" to bring Kevin Millar with the team up from Florida. How hard is that to figure out?

Rowand already a fan favorite in fickle Philly
witesoxfan replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 06:10 AM) I see he's hitting .174. If he starts the regular season like that they will eat him alive. A new player has to earn any patience he gets from the fans, not just in Philly. Look how badly Jermaine Dead was bashed early last year here. Hopefully Arow starts well and doesn't have to go through a month of abuse. Hope is good to have...but I don't think its looking good. Rowand's a career .205 .253/.325/.588 hitter in April. He has also hit 3 homers and 13 RBI all time in April. -
That was the craziest set of emotions I think I went through during the entire postseason. Astacio got the GIDP which looked like it would be an inning and momentum ending play. I was down, and actually threw a tv chair into my couch I was so pissed. Like friggin 30 seconds later Blum connects...initially, I thought it was a double, and I of course then pulled my best Hawk and yelled "Get up!"...sure enough, it went out. Geoff, thanks for the hair, thanks for the homer, thanks for everything. Oh... QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) As will Ryan Meaux As will Kenny Lofton

If Jim Bowden is still with the Nats by July, I will be surprised. If he is still with the Nats come November, the Nats are stupid.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) I don't know wite. Ya boy Bloomquist is considered a god in spring training and in AAA and if he makes the team, Seattle will go very far this season. Waiting for posters to rip on me. I did forget to mention the god of all gods. I figured that was a given, so I didn't need to mention him. Makes Manny Ramirez look like a little leaguer.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) God I would like to find that thread when that Koch/Foulke trade happened a couple years ago. I know Jas was one of them but alot of people said that Cotts was the interesting name in the deal cause he was good spect with impressive numbers (except his walks) He is the only one left in that deal with us in the same uniform.. Hell Koch is not even in professional baseball anymore. What a pickup. Now a reliever and one of the best/underrated relievers in the game. (probably shouldn't get too carried away for one season, but he looks like a diamond in the rough.) I'm glad I was also a "one of the many" Cotts backers when that thread about running his ass out of town was around. (Should try and look at that too.) Perhaps you view diamonds in the rough differently than I. Cotts was a 2nd round pick..I don't see him as a diamond in the rough, I view him as a pitcher with good stuff that panned out. A diamond in the rough is Esteban Loaiza...a guy that is brought in to contend for a SP job and goes out and puts up a Cy Young caliber season. Or David Ortiz, who was released by the Twins because he was too inconsistent and too injury prone - he has gone on to become a top 3 slugger in the majors.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) I really, really dont like LAA this year. If Seattle can have Pinero step up, and Moyer just give them one more year, they could finish in 2nd and suprise some people. There are certain moves Bavasi has made that I just absolutely hate(for instance, resigning Ibanez...journeymen Joe Blow can come in and put up .280 20 80 .800 for you, and there are always bargains to be had and players to be traded for that have little to no value but have a high ceiling(JOBO))...but I really like the direction that team is moving. If Beltre looks anything during the year like he did in the WBC, watch the f*** out on the west coast. I too think they are going to surprise a lot of people this year...very solid, underrated team all-around.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) I just read Canseco's book Juiced. In his book he thinks So-So took the juice, but he says Jason Gaimbi is the most obvious juicer in the game. Jason Giambi may best be remembered for his comments of "I'm sorry"...he never said what he was sorry for, but I think it was pretty apparent to anybody paying attention. Hell, Jeremy basically came out and said it too, but again only hinted very strongly at it. Props to Jason though - even as a roider, he put up a good year and did not test positive for steroids in the first year of steroid testing. Whether that will happen in 2006 remains to be seen, but it would be pretty cool if it did.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) The Angels? What have they done to truely improve their team? As a vivid Yankee hater, I'll still say that they have one of the better offenses in baseball, and their staff as a whole should suck less than last year. They should be ranked in the top 5 on any power rankings. The best offense in baseball, and one of the worst all around pitching staffs in baseball. I would not be surprised in the least if the Yankees team ERA is 4.50. Agree on the Angels though - I honestly think they're looking at 3rd place in that division, with one of Texas and Seattle stepping up and finishing in 2nd with Oakland running away.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) -Marte actually should be listed as another success story for Cooper seeing as the Sox snatched him from Pittsburgh for nearly nothing and turned him into one of the best lefties in baseball, that is until by all accounts he quit listening to everyone and turned into a crybaby who you couldn't correct or you would hurt his feelings. He should actually be considered Nardi Contreras's success story. Marte was brought in during spring training of 2002. Nardi Contreras was fired during the 2002 season. Also...what took so long with Garland? You need 2 years of struggling under a pitching coach to turn him into a good pitcher? I'm personally wondering myself how much Garland, Cotts, Politte, Hermanson, and Contreras were affected by AJ. Also in Contreras's case, how much of his success was due to Duque? Hell, I'll take it a step further, how much were Mark Buehrle and Freddy helped by AJ? How much was Jenks? Coop is a great pitching coach - I'm not trying to take anything away from him - but AJ is a great catcher, and to take anything away from him is wrong as well. And besides those two, simple maturation will do it as well, along with being used in the proper situations and having confidence in your ability to accomplish your assigned task, thus leading to Ozzie having a large impact. I don't think you can point your fingers at any one person in the White Sox organization and say you get all the credit for it. More than 1 person helped all these pitchers get to where they are now.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Wasn't Anderson perfect that whole season until that last kick? Ya, I'm pretty sure he was Kind of funny, cuz I was kind of on the Vikings bandwagon that year, and my dad is pretty much everything Minnesota sports(not crazy into it, but that's about all he ever cheers for)...and he said he had a dream one night where Anderson did exactly that. He did that and it was just like...oh s***.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) You cannot trade kickers in the NFL, right? I don't see why they would get rid of vanderjagt, he was a pretty solid kicker besides the AFC Champ. game where he blew the 40 whatever yard FG. That's exactly why they're getting rid of Vanderjagt. What good is a kicker that can't kick late field goals in huge games? As far as that goes, Vinatieri is the exact opposite. There is about no one in the NFL you'd rather see kicking for you in that situation. Imagine if the Vikings had a kicker that could make clutch field goals in 1998...I don't think John Elway goes out on top. That's how crucial a clutch kicker is.

Reds acquire Bronson Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena
witesoxfan replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Regardless of value going one way or another, this was just a dumb trade by the Reds IMO. By the time the Reds are ready to compete again, Arroyo will be an afterthought. Arroyo could be an afterthought come August...at the very least, I do not see him ending his current contract in a Cincinnati uniform. The more I think about it, the more I read into it, it makes sense for both teams long term...both teams I think were undervaluing their players a bit, and it worked out in the end for both. Pena could end up putting up .300 40 120 .380/.570/.950 type numbers within the next 3-4 years, whereas Arroyo could potentially be traded at the deadline for nearer his true value, thus allowing Cinci to get 2-3 good solid prospects for him. Cincinnati fans better hope that if there is one aspect of Terry Ryan's game Krivsky has acquired, it's his scouting ability. Terry Ryan is still reaping the benefits from trading Chuck Knoblauch, a trade that happened nearly 10 years ago, in the form of Carlos Silva and Jason Bartlett. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) He beats the Sox once in his last 10 games. At least we prevented that. 2 years ago. And wtf w/ the popup? Is my computer gonna implode now? No, host ultra is just a b**** like that. That's why sim leagues should never be done on host ultra. Imagine actually trying to sift through players in that.
