  1. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Might wanna change the title. You make it appear like it is for sure when it isn't. u r soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo velcome
  2. I hate to add fuel to the fire here, but... The closest general stat there probably is when considering a catcher's calling ability is his CERA...and even that can be a horrible stat to use. Jamie Burke's CERA was in the mid 3's last year, while Ben Davis's was in the mid 4's-5's. That doesn't mean Burke is that much better of a game-caller, it means Burke was catching Mark Buehrle, while Davis was catching everyone else. The White Sox pitching staff is probably more talented than the Red Sox pitching staff, and is probably better up and down...but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that a starting catcher with a 5.05 CERA and a career 4.14 CERA(having caught the likes of Pedro for however many years, along with Lowe in his great year, and probably others who are not coming to mind right now) is a better game caller than a starting catcher with a 3.73 CERA and a career 4.17 CERA, constantly catching young pitchers and slightly above average pitchers. At the very worst, I'd say they are about the same, but I personally feel AJP is the better game caller...I've felt that all along, but I just thought he was an assclown when he was with Minnesota. Anyways, congrats AJ on the baby.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Lee has 17 homers now, correct? I gotta bold prediction - he won't hit 40. PWN3D
  4. I'm gonna take the other side on this issue...I see where everyone's coming from...but just got kicks and giggles. Magglio reportedly turned down an offer of 4 years, $60 mill from the Sox during ST, or somewhere around that time period...a move that ensures him being a top paid OFer, along with financial security for the rest of his life. He then f***s up his knee, essentially ending his season. He came back for a brief stint, played so-so, and then was gone for the season. He then, while still under contract with the Chicago White Sox, has a controversial, if you will, surgery in Vienna to help try and fix his knee. IIRC, this move was never authorized by the White Sox. He then collectively slapped every White Sox fan in America, pretty much, by firing his agent and signing Scott Boras. Boras, as we all know, is a very good agent to get big money, but he is also an asshole and is a person that most see from an antagonistical point of view. Essentially declaring to the world that he was leaving Chicago is prety hard to deal with. I can't remember everything that happened exactly, but I seem to recall him talking about the Sox in a bad light, thus stirring up the fans. He then signs with one of the Sox division rivals in the Tigers, a move viewed by a lot of fans as another slap in the face. I can see why they booed him...I personally don't like the guy anymore, especially with that Tigers uniform on...it disgusts me. I wouldn't boo him though, because that's just not in my nature. To know that one of our own bailed on us, and went for the cash instead of winning, hurts...a lot. I view him as a bit of a traitor, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.
  5. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) might turn out to be good that we didn't get him either. He is out with a foot injury. Bittersweet News Would he have injured his foot playing in USCF? Never know.
  6. This was one of the most f***ed up threads I've ever seen. Anyways, congrats Scott
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) A Jim Thome or a Todd Helton is an even worse option than a Konerko...both cost either as much as Konerko probably will or even more than that...and Thome is a gigantic healthy question unless the Phillies pick up his whole contract, which they won't do without us giving them a gigantic prize (and BMac ain't leavin). Crede really wasn't doing that well before the "Injuries" either...he had a couple good weeks early in the year, but a terrible May, and at best an average June. He's really starting to seem to me as a career .240 hitter. Iguchi and Rowand will probably be better next year, as (hopefully) will Uribe...but we still need some good production from 1b. Our offense this year hasn't exactly been the league's best...and losing Konerko would be losing a huge piece. With Philly or Colorado picking up large tabs of those contracts, they'd be good risks to take. The Sox badly need a LH hitter in the middle of the lineup...or should I say, a LH hitter that can hit RHP. And while you didn't respond to it, I'm not even that big on trading for Overbay. He has very much been a first half hitter over the past couple years in Milwaukee(.962 OPS preASB, 04, .734 OPS postASB 04; .846 OPS preASB, 05, .741 OPS postASB 05...his average this past year have been similar, pre being at .274, post at .272, which is better to see than him being 100 points lower in the second half), and his price tag would be relatively high. Also, Crede was better than a lot of people thought. Two very horrid stretches for him really tainted people's impressions of him, IMO. His May was awful, putting up .211/.286/.497 splits, and his last stretch of games before he went on the DL were even worse than that, putting up .148/.172/.320 in 17 games, 60 PAs...however, his April, June, and July were all very solid. In April his splits of .368/.456/.824 were one of the reasons we were able to get off to a fast start. June was even better than that, putting up .333/.538/.871 splits, and then he was finally hitting much better in July overall, putting up .342/.551/.893...and then his back got f'ed up, and then his finger was broken.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) The other issue is his replacement...we could maybe save $10 million a year by going with Gload. Can Gload hit .310 and 15-20 home runs? If he can do that...that's a real savings and a limited downgrade. But if he can't do that, or can't stay healthy for a full season...then Paulie rapidly becomes the best option we have. The best option at our fingertips, I assume you mean. That doesn't mean we can't go out and trade for a Lyle Overbay as a stopgap type player, or perhaps as a player for the future...nor does it mean the Sox can't try and trade for a Jim Thome or a Todd Helton. That also doesn't mean that we can't go out and upgrade elsewhere while downgrading at catcher. Get a 3Bman that can hit, try and get a SS with power, perhaps cut ties with Frank and bring in anybody that can hit, period. I figure Rowand will rebound power wise somewhat at the plate next year, Iguchi will hit for a little better power, Uribe will probably rebound slightly as well, and Crede could perhaps start hitting like he was in June and July before these injuries started to come up. We should be fine with or without Konerko next year.

  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) go-to guy out of the pen I wish Ozzie felt the same way you did. In our worst month of the year, Cotts for some reason throws 8 2/3 innings. Me = :banghead
  11. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) No; a team 30+ games over .500 should be able to beat a team that came into the series 15 games back and was consistently sub-mediocre. That's not news. The other way around certainly is. A team playing 30+ games over .500 type baseball is expected to win every series, and sweep series over bad teams. A team coming off an 11-16 month is not. To go out and beat Detroit, like the Sox did, is newsworthy and should be celebrated.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) thanks for the info jim. sox - cardinals @ home will be a must go to game. One can only hope its a rematch of the 2005 World Series.
  13. QUOTE(farmteam @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) There's a difference between relying on Power and having a homerun threat. The best combination, IMO, is to have a mostly average/speed lineup with a couple of power guys. Not having a 30-HR guy in a lineup can hurt. And on the power note, other than Konerko, who are some of the biggest power bats up for Free Agency this offseason? There aren't many. As far as power is concerned(speaking home runs here), Konerko is undoubtedly the best available. 2005-2006 MLB Free Agents
  14. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) It's safe to say Scotty, not the equally cool Iggy, is really our team MVP. Keep it going, Sox ... and start losing, Tribe. Offensive MVP. There is no clear cut MVP on this Sox team. The pitching staff sucks without AJP, the rotation sucks without them actually being good(yeah, that is pretty much not hard to figure out), the offense sucks without Pods at the top of the lineup, the offense sucks without any run producers, the team does not gel without Ozzie coaching it, and the team is not together without KW.
  15. I have so many pimpass names, it is crazy. President B. Silk...sexy Big Playah Valentine...makes the panties drop And then of course, Ice Master wite Glide. That just flows so smoothly.

  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) lol Reminds me of someone from the TMNT movies. Sort of Splinter, sort of Shredder. I think.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) I think everyone is 2 worried about HR's.... give me a guy that will hit for avg. hit some doubles play some good defense our park will give him some HR's and all is good. Agreed. The direction this franchise is heading in is very similar to where Minnesota went. You do not want to build your entire team around power...Texas has proven for years upon years that doing that does not work, and we proved that to ourselves from 01-04 that you are too inconsistent offensively to win. As of right now, we are overly dependant upon the homer(which is why a game like last night is so nice to see), and our horrific August proved that point very well. You get rid of Konerko, and that is getting rid of some of the reliance on home runs. You can bring in a 30-40 homer guy too, but the first qualification should undoubtedly be the fact that he hits for average and gets on base. The more versatile players you bring in offensively, the better. Bring in guys that walk, bring in guys that can steal bases, bring in guys that are singles hitters, bring in doubles-triples hitters, bring in home run guys, bring in guys that do it all well/good enough...why the hell not. The more versatile your offensive attack, the more consistent your offense.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Could this facial hair get him 44 saves and 93 Ks? BOBBY TIME
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Am I the only one that finds this hilarious? I saw it too I giggled.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) I think KW wanted to add a bat, but with the complete lack of moves it seems there was no market this year. I don't buy that. If he wanted to make a move bad enough, he could have made a move. Lawton went for nothing...why did he not try and get Lawton either time?
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) If KW thought Gload was the offensive answer, you can bet your ass he would have been on the MLB roster during the last few weeks. Also, since when did Blum become the whipping boy? How quick we all forget how poorly Crede was playing in August. I just keep forgetting Crede's injured, quite honestly. Don't ask why. However, I'm not sure about you, but I'd much rather see Ozuna at SS with Uribe at 3B than Uribe at SS and Blum at 3B. Ozuna is a relatively weak hitter who is mainly singles with the occasional double, but he atleast gives the Sox a somewhat reliable bat. And about Gload...maybe KW views him as Plan AA? With every other option exhausted, (KW not being able to make a move, and now the trade deadline passed), perhaps he intends on having Gload come up. One other factor I see in KW not being able to bring Gload up is his lack of versatility. He is above average defensively at 1B, and weak everywhere else(everywhere being OF, because he obviously can't play C, 2B, SS, or 3B). He could have DH'ed, but at that point, who do you send down to make room for Gload? You can't send down Ozuna, because Blum really can't play SS; you can't send down Blum, because then you basically have no 3Bman(which I keep forgetting about for some reason...I also say basically, because as stated, Uribe can play 3B...he is about the only one on the roster who can play an adequate 3B...I didn't see much of the Widger game, so I can't really comment on how he looked at 3B), and there is about no one else that could have realistically been sent down. Adkins perhaps, but then there is no inning eater when we need one. Just MHO, but it's kind of how I look at it.
  23. QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Maybe you didn't read the post. I said this should be the lineup 6 out of 7 times. That allows players time off. If you did this all season, your players would get over 20 games of rest. That is plenty. Make sure you read a whole post before you respond. 6 out of 7 times concedes a game once every 7 games. That is basically Ozzie's mentality right now with the lineup, and it's a rather stupid one. Rest them 1 at a time, 2 at the most.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Ross Gload hit .403 with 4 HRs and a 1.133 OPS in 67 ABs last September. He could be SO huge for this team down the stretch, it's not even funny. People want to add a bat...maybe KW already thinks the bat is in house. Podsednik off the DL perhaps, or maybe, just maybe, it is Gload. The 40-man comes into play, so Gload should come up. It's a matter of Ozzie playing him. Meaning the only time, absolutely ONLY time Geoff Blum should play is when he is backing up the guys at 2B and 3B.
  25. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) speaking of tins, anybody have any empty tins? Yeah Why?
