QUOTE(bulokis @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I was looking at the probables, we will face Felix on the 1st game of the series. Yippee...

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I see no reason why he can't, and I hope he does. He plays 1B (though he doesn't start) for a division-leading club at 47. I'm sure he can find a back-up role on a garbage team for a year or two if he has to find another place. That's what Fred McGriff figured. Sneak into 500 that way. Didn't work. No one wanted him.

Why do I feel there is no substance to that quote?

I still feel Oakland is the team to beat. Best SP, most SP depth, very solid bullpen, and a very solid and underrated offense.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) Yeah, it sucks but this team is done. Either it's gonna choke away this lead or it will get swept in the first round. Unless of course, we add a major bat. You mean like Scott Podsednik?

GRRRRINDERBALL v. Yankees 8/20/05 Game Thread!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) TIMO. WHY IS THIS GUY ALWAYS GETTING ABS. THIS IS BORDERLINE CRAZY. HE CANT HIT. I AM BETTING THAT OWENS IN AA CAN HIT 220 AND HAVE A LESS THAN 300 OBP JUST LIKE TIMO. I'm betting that Damaso Marte could hit .220 and have an OBP of less then .300. And I'm also betting that Timo would be a good lefty reliever. I say Ozzie switches it up for a game. I mean, he let's Timo do everything else. -
He wouldn't have put up 7-0 0.75 here, and this is for sure. It's still fun to pretend though.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) I love this. We all want our favorite (and not-so-favorite) athletes to be honest with the media, don't we? "Enough with the cliches, say what you really mean!" But, whenever an athlete is truthfully honest, we roast him over the coals. So f*****g what if Randy smokes weed in the offseason. Doesn't make him a bad guy. I'm a Bears fan, but I sided with him after the thing with the traffic cop, and I side with him now. I understand what you mean, and I completely agree. Doesn't mean he's not a dumbass, and it doesn't mean he's not a cancerous player, and it doesn't mean the Vikings were wrong for trading for him. But he speaks the truth. And he still has one of the funniest lines ever, even if it is egotistical and selfish and, unsurprisingly, dumb at the time. "Straight cash, homey." -
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) North Dakota = boring. Hills, hay fields, more hay fields. Then you hit Bismarck. Bismarck is a lot like Peoria. There are a lot of trailer courts here it seems. And the Capitol building is ugly. However, if you go west from Bismarck, you just so happen to run into the world's biggest cow. I think it's the worlds biggest cow anyways.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) He will be good their for 2 reasons: 1 is that any pitcher will have some success at that park because it is a big ballparkr. 2 is that Rick Peterson teh mets pitching coach is a pitching genius. Not because he's a junkballer with a funny pitch that most of the NL has not seen?

I like it...because I think she is getting what she intends to get. I think she wants to be recognized as a die-hard, casual, over the top type fan. She wants to come across as a however old she is woman with a 12-year old baseball mind(hence the "b****-Sox", hence the legos, hence any other childish thing that appears in her writing). She is intentionally a homeristic fan. She reminds me of Joe Posnanski, actually. However, I hate Posnanski's writing. The main difference between the 2 is that Posnanski actually believes the way he does, and I don't believe he is actually trying to be as much of a homer as he appears, because he really is that big of a homer. That, and Posnanski's getting paid to do what he does, and his stuff is written as a columnist for an actual newspaper. Either you appreciate what Ursu does, or you do not. I don't know any other way to put it.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 05:32 AM) And alas the Indians wasted another good oppurtunity to get a game on us losing to the D-Rays today, thanks to Jake Westbrook. Their starting pitching is still quite iffy to me. Westbrook's struggled for the majority of the year, Sabathia's had a bad year (5.10 ERA), Elarton is a #5 nothing more, Cliff Lee is a notorious 1st half pitcher, and can Millwood keep up the way he's pitched so far. They've got a great bullpen though. Fernando Cabrera has come up and dominated (watch out for this guy in the future), while guys like Miller, Rhodes, Wickman, well basically everyone in their pen have all had a real good year. To go along with a solid, but streaky offense. Sounds a bit like the Angels, doesn't it?

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) For some reason I wouldn't mind facing the A's in the playoffs. We would have to make changes but they are young and prone to make mistakes. There are ways to beat Oakland. We should just ask Cleveland how to beat them.. They are prone to mistakes, but they are also "prone" to playing like veterans and becoming playoff heroes. 2003 must seem like a distant memory for some, but I seem to recall a certain Florida team with a young, up and coming superstar in Miguel Cabrera being huge offensively, and I also seem to recall Josh Beckett pitching on 2 or 3 days rest and being electric and untouchable. KRod, Andruw Jones...hell, even Erubiel Durazo in 2001 to win a huge game against Atlanta in the NLCS. Derek Jeter was a rookie in 1995, and he has seen the playoffs every year he has been in the majors. Just because they are young does not mean they are not dangerous. If we draw the A's, so be it. There is very little the Sox can do to help who they face. What they can do is play as well as they have to down the stretch, get into the playoffs, and then play well against whoever it is they draw. I'd rather not face the A's, as they happen to match up very well against the Sox...but if it is, so be it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) They went on a 9 game winning streak through San Francisco, Arizona, and Colorado, in June - one of those months where no team in that division had a good record. Although we didn't look too good against Arizona, both teams also took 2/3 from San Diego, and both of us swept Colorado. We didn't play San Fran - we drew the Dodgers instead. The Sox were 9-3 against the NL West, the Indians were 11-1. Both of those are very good...we just had 2 embarassing games against Arizona and a blown save in San Diego. But here's the real kicker...in the "Rivalry" series, the Cubs and Sox split 6 games evenly. Cleveland got to play the Reds. They went 4-2. You pick who had the harder matchup there. I'd much rather play the Reds than A little "variable", if you will, to throw into this equation, is that Cleveland got Colorado in Cleveland, whereas we faced them in Colorado. Colorado, thus far, has been swept at home once this year. Guess who
-
Basically what Jim is saying, and it is the truth, is that the Sox are trying not to be the Yankees in games 4-7 of the ALCS last year where the pitching completely falls apart. They are also not trying to be the Sox of 2000 where the pitching staff just falls into shambles and everyone gets injured. Would you rather have Jon Adkins or Cliff Politte go down with a strained rotator cuff right now?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) 99.999999% of the world STILL put their pants at their ankles when taking a dump. YOU, are the 0.000001%. I keep mine at my thighs...I think. Hell I don't know. I don't think you really pay attention to where you pull them down to unless your wallet falls into the toilet...cuz then, you know, you have to tell people how the hell your wallet fell into the toilet.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) with that theory, North Dakota must be great too. Nebraska is not much further from Cities as Chicago, Kansas City, and Denver. Try harder chisoxy girl, I know you are capable of it. If you are talking about eastern North Dakota, maybe...in the Fargo area mainly. Else...North Dakota is atleast 7 hours away from anything too. In other words, the suck...like a bigger suck than even Nebraska and Iowa. Atleast those states have PEOPLE. When the biggest city in your state has like 100,000 people in it, your state sucks...lol.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) I was waiting for someone to ask this question. Stay away. Far, far away. He'll fit in nicely with the: Devil Rays, Pirates, Reds, Orioles, Royals, etc. or maybe the Newark Bears

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) A team like Tampa could sell tickets with him. I think there would be suitors. Has Lou Pineilla not just beat to death the fact that he wants a RH slugger? Samme would be good for them.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) Good deal for both teams imo. Lawton's a great fit for the cubs and a solid player but atleast Pitt got something, if he stays then he walks in the offseason and they get nothing. Not sure if I'm seeing this as a good move for Pittsburgh. Gerut's a solid player...but he is all they got? They should have gotten more than just a 4th OF type. I mean, Baltimore has no interest? Minnesota? New York? Washington? Los Angeles? Shop him around...I'm sure you can get more than just Jody Gerut.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) um you don't go to the playoffs with a s*** bullpen the way they have it. Dempster is good however who do you have to set him up. Their Rotation is average at best so the only reason they are in contention is cause the national league is bad. Since their bullpen was awesome in 03. :rolly And their rotation is not 'average at best'. I'd say average at worst. Prior-Zambrano-Maddux-Williams is a very solid 1-4 and then Rusch or Hill is a solid 5. If Prior and Zambrano can stay healthy, they are a very solid and very underrated team.

The Cubs turned a guy they had no use for, because he can't field to save his life, into a top 3 leadoff hitter in the NL. Jim Hendry might be the best GM when it comes to trades in the majors. He has turned a reliever who was horrible for the Cubs and had a bad contract into 2 very solid young pitchers, and turning a person of no value for your team into a top 3 leadoff hitter is excellent. They will be a very scary team in the 2nd half. If the team in general can stay half way healthy, I see them taking the Wild Card.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) That would be awesome. I love Furcal and really wanted him on this team when there were rumors of him coming here (can't remember exactly how long ago that was). He's really been vital to the Braves' winning this year, and would be a very welcome addition to the lineup. Can you imagine Pods and Furcal batting 1 and 2, allowing Iguchi to move down in the lineup were he would probably knock in more runs and really solidify the bottom of the lineup. I'm not sure, however, what we'd do with Uribe or Crede. I guess we'd get rid of one or the other, or what would be even sweeter would be if Uribe would be happy in a utility role. However, after starting 2 years in a row, I doubt he'd want to go back to being a utility guy. Last thing, who's Furcal's agent? Uribe wouldn't be happy being the super sub again, but lighting a fire under his ass would not be a bad idea. Get him 4 games a week filling in at 2B, 3B, and SS...maybe even try him in the OF a little bit in ST.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) This trade means that Willie gets to try his big pimpin' routine in Charlotte. Thank f***ing God! Do chicks really ever take a 5'9 170 lb guy who is trying to pimp seriously? Isn't he like Stifler's little brother?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) So is it Bye Bye Willie now. What is the roster move that allows this. Willie and whoever for Blum would do it for me. Willie makes sense for San Diego. I can't remember how long Loretta is out(or if he even is out anymore), but their interest for Boone tells me all I really need to know.
