  1. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) We'll see how Culpepper does without Randy Moss; I think they'll finish below #15 in offense. No Smith, No Moss. Not too mention how often get Bennett gets hurt. Culpepper didn't have Randy Moss for about 5 games last year(IIRC, weeks 7-11). He wasn't awful, but he was not horrible by any means(too lazy to post, but you can see his splits here). Now that they have "replacements" for Moss in Williamson and Taylor, that Culpepper is gonna be worse? I think not That, and the fact that they also do have Mewelde Moore and Ciatrick Fason, along with Moe Williams still as well. Losing Smith means very little to them at all. It's not like the Dolphins losing Ricky Williams...it's more like the Broncos losing Quentin Griffin/Reuben Droughns. Nate Burleson's 68 catches, 1006 receiving yards, and and 9 TD catches as the #2 receiver much of the year is not worthy of being the #1 receiver in Minnesota? The defense was bad...but they added depth to an already very good defensive line, they added depth to the secondary(and I'm sure Sharper is better than Brian Russell). The defense is improved, and I would venture to guess that they are a team that will probably gel in the second half, rather than the first half, with so many new faces on defense. Or perhaps they will be very good offensively in the first half and poor or inconsistent defensively and later on their offense will start to falter while their defense begins to gel. They got Pat Williams to stuff the run...something they had no chance of doing last year, at any point. They are getting exactly what they paid for. I would be very, very surprised if the Vikings do not win the NFC North. It would take a hell of an emergence by some other team, or it would take the Vikings to underachieve very badly for anything like that to happen.
  2. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) That was BS. We gain 1 bullpen arm while losing 3 good relievers, not gonna happen. So Huff accounts for nothing? The trade is ridiculous, because the Sox are not going to deal from their superiority to most teams during the regular season...but from what I can tell, it is not 3 arms for 1, it is those 3 for Baez and Huff. For TB, that trade makes no sense whatsoever. Probably the best way to remain a medicre to bad team is to load up the bullpen while doing nothing for your rotation. I love a philosophy for the regular season being average SP and a lights out pen...Minnesota has won 3 straight division titles with that philosophy(though Santana was a stud last year)...but part of that is having average SP, something Tampa Bay does not have. Their ownership should seriously fire LaMar this offseason. He really is not a good GM at all.
  3. In my RFTH, freshman year, as an option QB(ie mobile QB, w00t) at Ohio State, I finished 2nd in the Heisman balloting...1808 points...to Santonio Holmes, my receiver, who received 1843 points in the balloting. I just thought that kind of sucked to lose by 35 to my receiver, but whatever.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) I questioned early how small ball would work when we lost our two best averages from last year. We do not have a .300 hitter. When was the last time a team won a playoff series w/o a .300 hitter? I don't know if it's important, but it seems strange. An FYI, Rowand is hitting in the .290s and climbing seemingly everyday, and Podsednik is at .302. And to get close to answering your little tidbit, the 2002 Minnesota Twins did not have a player hit over .300...but had 2 that hit exactly .300, AJ Pierzynski, and Jacque Jones. Interesting note about that team was that they did not have a 30 homer guy or a 100 RBI guy on that team.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) Remember how you agreed with me in April(or May) that the Sox and the Twins were the two best teams in the A.L., just making sure. Ya I think I do...lol Then again, I did not know then that Johan would have an ERA in the high 3's, and I didn't think that the Twins offense would be this bad. As of right now, they are sputtering badly, and need some sort of spark offensively...and his name is not Bret Boone. You also have to remember that I love how the A's and Beane go about structuring their ballclub, and I had said early on that I would not be surprised if they are a surprise team this year. What is scary to think about is that this A's team will probably be better next year. That, and you and I have that friendly bet.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) On tonight's game on ESPN, they said Texas is trying to lock up Texiera long term and if they can't do so, they might put him on the market because they Gonzalez waiting in the wings. They could get a lot for Teix. Like, as in, almost anything they wanted, and then some candy for the kids..
  7. Can I vote for a first round bye? I don't want Oakland in there, I don't want Minnesota, I don't want the Yankees, and Baltimore has about as much chance of getting in there with their current roster as I do with hooking up with Jessica Simpson. Detroit doesn't have the pitching, neither does Cleveland, neither does Texas, and Toronto is a pushover right now(though the last 4 really have little chance of doing anything anyways) Picking poisons here, I'll take New York...I guess
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) The point about the Cenral's weak hitting can be a result of the overall strong pitching within the division, as these teams play each other 18 or 19 times. Or ... is the pitching that good because of the weak hitting? So, basically, which came first, the chicken or the egg?
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I'd like to hear a response to my other point. Anyone think the A's young starters will fade in September-October after their innings start adding up? Zito and Harden will be fresh. Zito's thrown over 200 innings the past 4 years and will do it again this year, barring injury. Harden just eclipsed 90 innings in his last start. And Blanton will probably be "fresh" enough for most of September, having only thrown 109.2 innings up to this point. Haren could be, and Saarloos has already thrown more innings this year then any year in his career. And how much would that matter if they have a 5-7 game lead in the Wild Card? The Twins have found no spark whatsoever, and both Baltimore and New York's pitching staffs have been very inconsistent or even flat out bad this year.
  10. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) They just have to make the right moves. If Dave Littlefield has proven one thing over the past however many years he has been the GM of the Pirates, it's that he does not make the right moves. One of his lone good moments was the Ritchie trade. And then he redeemed himself for that deal by essentially giving the Sox Marte(given, Seattle had also given up on Marte, but why deal an arm like Marte when you are rebuilding anyways? Just doesn't make sense to me in hindsight) That organization's fascination with McClendon and Littlefield is beyond me.
  11. Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Rage, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, among others that are not even coming to mind Als, 2Pac, Eminem, Dre, Bone Thugs and Harmony, and probably others. Main favorite is anything by Chris Cornell.
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Didn't even see it there. I'm thinking Panthers and Ravens--maybe even the Jags. How about you? For sure Baltimore...if Boller can be average, they are a playoff team. I also like Buffalo, if they can overcome some of their holes defensively, or Jacksonville. Not a huge fan of any team in the AFC West quite frankly, though San Diego is a solid team as well. Sonix got a little riled up about people still having KC in 3rd place...personally, I see them either being a very solid team, potentially being a 10-12 win team, or I view them being mediocre to bad again, with 6 to 8 wins. Derrick Johnson was only like my boy during the weeks prior to the draft, so I have to like their defense a little bit, if not just because of him. In the NFC, Carolina and Dallas seem to be safe predictions to me...though quite frankly I could see a lot of teams being the Wild Card. Seattle, Chicago, Detroit, and even teams like Washington, Green Bay, and Arizona, to me, appear to have an outside shot.
  13. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) i know it was stupid but, i do think they will win divison or wild card and make a run for it I personally doubt it very much.
  14. Blalock has the most experience out of everyone of those players...IIRC, he came up in like 02/03. Buehrle and Garland both came up in 2000 and both became part of the rotation in 01, though Garland was only in the rotation half the season.
  15. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Ace... dammit don't be immature now..... :banghead And ya, this thread just kind of took off
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) I win the lottery, get struck by lightning, and get attacked by a shark. Better odds of that happening then that Packers garbage.
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) ...talk to me in February, skip. I've been at this for awhile now; believe me, I have a little idea of what's going on. ...I'm sure others can attest to that. ADDY, YOU NEVER ANSWERED MY QUESTION!!! lol
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Well there is a well thought out post.. Where was I personally attacking you in regards to trades? Look I want Schimdt on this team, but not going to happen.. We need a bat more than anything.. Execpt I won't want Griffey..If anything I would want to make a Run at Huff, He can play 3b,1b and OF. Aubrey Huff? The same one with a .728 OPS? His OPS is also declining over the past 3 years. He needs to make an adjustment, and I gotta feeling Greg Walker will provide no good advice to him.
  19. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Why shouldn't we or KW or any other Sox fan NOT be happy with the team and the record we have right now? There might always be a player out there that could help us get even better, but at what cost? Undoubtedly prospects doing nothing for the Chicago White Sox.
  20. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) That is AR in a nutshell For starters, Rowand isn't a household name. Secondly, Rowand's had 1 very good year(.905 OPS last year), and has had a few solid years thus far(.816 OPS in 123 ABs in 01, .780 OPS in 157 ABs in 03, and, thus far, a .761 OPS this season), compared to Erstad, who has had a sub-750 OPS in 6 of the last 7 years. Rowand >>>>> Erstad
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) NFC North: 1. Vikings 2. Lions 3. Bears 4. Packers NFC East: 1. Eagles 2. Cowboys 3. Redskins 4. Giants NFC South: 1. Falcons 2. Panthers 3. Bucs 4. Saints NFC West: 1. Rams 2. Seahawks 3. Cardinals 4. 49'ers AFC North: 1. Steelers 2. Ravens 3. Bengals 4. Browns AFC East: 1. Patriots 2. Bills 3. Jets 4. Dolphins AFC South: 1. Colts 2. Jags 3. Texans 4. Titans AFC West: 1. Chargers 2. Broncos 3. Chiefs 4. Raiders Agreed Just for s***s and giggles, who do you have as the Wild Cards?
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) How about we worry about winning the division first? we're 11.5 games up right now, and the Twins probably won't be able to get hot enough to catch the Sox. If the Sox were to somehow magically lose the division by completely collapsing and playing .400 baseball the rest of the way, the Twins would still have their work cut out for them in trying to win the division. The Sox have all but won the division. Talking about a potential first round matchup, on the other hand, is a little far-fetched. If the Sox were to say end up with 95 wins, winning the division by say 5 games over Minnesota, and Minny wins the Wild Card, while the Angels win 97, the Sox are playing someone in the East. In all likelyhood, the Sox are going to play the WC winner...but nothing is set in stone when it comes to that type of thing just yet. To get back to the topic at hand...Rowand and I have a friendly bet...so I have to stick with the A's. The offense is clicking, the rotation is very solid 1-5, and the bullpen is pitching together as a unit. They could make some minor tweaks if necessary, but I'm not sure those are necessary. They are probably the favorites to win the Wild Card right now.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Michael.Jordan. Good call
  24. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Go to a Reds board. I'm a Reds fan, I know some things about them. They would like to get rid of Casey. Do the Reds want to get rid of him, or do the fans? 95% of White Sox fans never want see Timo get another AB(/become starting RFer in Minnesota), but KW and Guillen and anyone who is anyone in that organization apparently wants to keep him.
  25. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Pwn3d a banned guy... w00t Hope they let him back so he can see for just a lil bit
