Say the Giants finish play up with 86 wins(hypothetically), and the Cubs have 84 wins with 3 games left. If the Cubs win their next 3 games, they are in the playoffs as the Wild Card team. The Wild Card teams are not determined until either every team below the first place team is eliminated, or the season is over.

Go Bengals...keep the AFC East with two teams tied for last!

The Brewers could actually be looking to trade Overbay this offseason to a rebuilding team, with the emergence of Prince Fielder from their system. He is thought higher of and will be a bigger power then then Overbay. However, I do agree with that list, though I wouldn't count Atlanta out of needing a 1Bman. I don't think they'd trade for Konerko, but they are a possibility. Here's what I'm thinking, however. We trade PK straight up for Luis Castillo...Castillo has a little bigger contract then Pierre, and would not cost the Sox nearly as much money. Assuming we do save money, we can invest in a RFer, a potential backup for 1B if Gload cannot play everyday(so we would end up with a platoon at 1B basically), we trade Crede for a reliever or two(I'm wondering what we could get for Crede from Tampa Bay, personally), sign Koskie to play 3B, and then the rest goes towards pitching.

Twins magic number is 2(counting their game against Baltimore today as an automatic win with Johan starting), and maybe 1, that means we only have to win 15 straight games and the Twins lose 15 straight more and WE WIN!!!!!! We are SO in this...anyone who says we aren't isn't a true Sox fan :rolly

Ozzie has not been impressed with Harris. So, you probably will see a new 2Bman next year...be it Uribe, Castillo, or someone else.

Get real. Jose has been one of the biggest power threats for a SS since 2000, he's had solid averages before, he hits very well in the clutch, he kills RHP, and he plays very good defense(unlike what some of you think...errors do not make a player bad defensively...Luis Aparicio is considered to be one of the greatest defensive SS's ever, yet, he made 20 and 30 errors a year). $5 mill was probably a little too much, but you consider that we would have had Uribe and Harris up the middle as our starters coming into the year, and I guarantee you that no White Sox fan would feel real comfortable with an up the middle combo of Uribe-Harris(and with good reason). Atleast with Jose, we knew what we were getting...a good start, a rough stretch in May, solid baseball in June and July, a drop off in August, and a better September...and that has held exactly true this year, with the exception of him not coming back to form in September. It is time for a change...but Jose has given us more then we asked for him. I just hope he goes somewhere where he can kill the Cubs some more.

The amount of homers hit there on a yearly basis compared to other parks. The Cell, IIRC, is averaging like around 1.85 or so homers per game, leading the league...and that's without Frank and Maggs in the lineup for most of the year. Someone else may have more extended info on this...but I am pretty sure that what I just said is true.

Because Valentin has naughty pictures of Ozzie.

You state your point well. I do disagree...I think things are potentially looking up for next year...but I always look at the best side of things, though I do not ignore the bad side. This could be the Sox last run for quite some time though. As of right now, we are too far into this thing to just tear it all down. The Sox have to atleast make an attempt at doing something in 2005 with everyone they already have for next year. If s*** doesn't go so well next year, 2006 is tear down and rebuild year. -

Actually Rex, I'd say you hit it right on the head if you said that. The first 3-4 months, this team was very good, being on pace to win 90 games or so. The last few, they've played some very poor baseball. -
If it's either Konerko or ElCaballo that has to go

Bottomline...the Twins actually know what the hell is going on in the field...which is unlike the Sox. They hit for power when necessary, they get base hits, they can bunt, they steal, they play excellent defense, they have a rock solid pitching staff...basically, what I'm trying to say is, is that they are probably the favorites to win the World Series this year. -

As has been said hundreds upon thousands of times on this board. This team was going along just fine, but 2 things happened. 1) We lost Frank and Maggs for the year 2) Torii Hunter steamrolled Jamie Burke, and there was no retaliation Without those two things, this team is still probably in the race. -
I haven't played with it, but I know of people who have, and they've told me that they used their checking account to transfer the money.

Konerko may have a good glove. Royce Clayton had a good glove too though. His range, on the other hand, was pitiful. This holds true for Konerko as well.

Cheating bastards. I hate the Mariners for that.

Anyone online...we're playing. bsimon76's HE, 25-50 NL

If by Cardinals, you mean Red Sox...then I agree.

I'd cheer for the Twins, for sure. I think they're a bunch of b****es...but they play the game right.

I agree. If this where you do not win nearly as many games, then a loss is understandable...I'm sure many Panther fans would feel that the game of the year was the Superbowl...but this is baseball. However, if we do include losses...our 17-14 loss to Montreal HAS to be in there. It just has to be. For starters, you don't normally see games that end 17-14, and second of all, we were down like 10 runs and nearly came back to win.

You guys talk about these yellow bands, and I got no f'in clue either, and I actually live in a decent sized city of about 55,000 or so, and the Bismarck-Mandan area is about 80,000. Then again, North Dakota is probably further behind then even Iowa. Can anyone tell me what the bigtime fashion was 3 months ago? I want to be the first to do it up here.

Unless Morris has regained his velocity...he lost it. Instead of hitting in the 90s, he was hitting more around the mid-to-high 80s from what I remember of him. Still, if the price were right, he'd be a good guy to look at.

I never actually took the time to actually read the article. Now that I have, let me rip it to shreds. Just curious...anyone remember who was in first place on September 10 of 2003? There goes that argument dumbass. Now, had he said 2 of the last 3 years, he'd be right. But he's not. So he loses. No, we figured out what was wrong in July and August, dumbass. You lose Maggs and Frank, two of the league's best hitters, and you'll lose. If the Twins lost Johan Santana, they wouldn't be anywhere close to where they are now. And...FWIW...we only spent about 2 weeks "wondering" what went wrong in September last year. So I'm to assume that .301 10 41 .850 is not worth 3 marginal prospects? I mean, he was only like a huge part of why we did what we did in the second half of last year. :rolly Aw, so that's how they do it up in Minnesota. Instead of actually complimenting Kenny Williams on what a good trade it was to get Bartolo Colon, a workhorse, for a bag of balls, you take a shot at Colon's weight. Real mature. Augie Ojeda is on your team. Now THAT'S funny! You know what Jim...Jose has been bad with the Sox...well, he has been bad over his last few starts. However, he did start out hotter then hell. His line...4-4, 6.33 ERA .274 BAA 1.66 WHIP...not very good. Then you look at Esteban with New York. One would wonder why in the blue hell you would trade a 21-game winner for a bum who never has been and is a potential never will be. Maybe Esteban's 0-2, 8.51, .360 BAA, 2.12 WHIP, removed from the rotation line will help make that trade look a little better. Jose Contreras may actually have a future...and Esteban Loaiza's best days may be behind him(and that's not a real good thing). So, tell me again...which idea was better? I forget. That had more to do with Torii Hunter taking a cheap shot at Jamie Burke and the Sox not having Maggs and Frank then it did us being managed very poorly. And, quite frankly, that team in late July was not very dangerous. Ozzie made rookie mistakes...all rookie managers will. Big deal. Ha, you are almost funny Jim. Except that that was a lame attempt at a joke. With you having made such absurd comments throughout the article, it's hard to tell what is truthful and what is said in jest. You should have just left it at that. Frank Thomas, in his 14 year career, has watched the Sox have 2 sub-.500 teams. The White Sox have not always had a good supporting cast around him. There goes that argument. (See: Chicago and Frank Thomas, 1993, 1994, 2000...see Rickey Henderson and damn near every team he ever played on...see Atlanta, New York, Florida, LA and Gary Sheffield). Point being, if you want to win, you'll win, regardless of what you think about that black or white guy sitting next to you. It was obvious to most fans at the time that it was over too. It is not the kind of attitude one should have on the baseball field...but the season was over after the Twins took the first two in Minnesota last year. It was not that hard to see. Take another shot at the organization...real mature. That's about the 25th time you've done that in the article. Grow some balls Jim. I dare you to read this article in the White Sox lockerroom after a tough loss. I mean, they may go Frankie Francisco on your ass, but that is to be expected. What do you think the Contreras trade was for? What do you think the Garcia trade was for? This year? Ha. After tearing this thing apart...I realized this whole thing was a big f***ing joke. It took potshots at the organization...but he wrote the article to appeal to Twins fans, not for us to be taken seriously. So basically, I just wasted a good half hour. Oh well, it was fun.

Already is the best thread here. I mean, check out who it was started by BTW...if we're telling poker stories...I may as well tell one I heard at a tournament. This guy was talking about him being in a game with a few other guys(duh), and he had some rag hand...like 6H-3C...but was in the big blind, and got a free look. Flop came 5H-7H-8H...so he's like jizzing his pants here with an open ended straight flush draw. A guy bets into him, and he calls. Turn comes 9H. A guy bets into him, pretty big, and he calls...no need to raise. River is blank. The guy makes a reasonable size bet, and the one who told the story went all in. The other guy called and said he had the nut straight flush, and the story teller was like "WTF are you talking about? The guy flipped over JH-10H. Anyways, just thought I'd like to share that. That would be crazy as hell to see.
