He's that good, and that valuable too(to the Brewers atleast)
-
So we can win a game. His 6.50+ ERA bodes well for the success of other teams. That's why we want to see him.
-
Thanks to all of you. But I think everyone knows what this means. 4 MORE YEARS!!!!!!
-
Why not? We give them a mediocre prospect, they give us Matt Stairs. If that prospect we give up bites us in the ass later on, big deal. The Cubs got a s***load of talent from the Pirates last year in a complete rape job, and they were in the same division. Why could the Sox not do a similar thing?
-
I would only hope that Robbie would just light it up, but I wouldn't count on it. However, one guy I wouldn't mind looking at is Matt Stairs. KC is well out of it, and I'm sure they'd take practically nothing for him(sort of like Alomar). He f***ing kills RHP. I'd want him or Randall Simon at the very least. And when talking about Ortiz and RJ....I was more or less referring to just getting another pitcher. Personally, I'm not super-confident in Garland-Scho down the stretch, and I'd just like to have depth. I do agree though that we need to do all we can to get RJ. Give them Borchard, Sweeney, Diaz, and Scho, and hope they accept(and I figure they would...perhaps sub in a couple decent prospects for Sweeney). Then hope RJ accepts. We do need to do all we can to get RJ.

It went in the same cupboard as Jerry Manuel's small ball philosophy.
-
I don't think we just drop Harris just like that though. Not a chance in hell. However, I could easily see Robbie come here and help. He could be either a starting 2Bman or be a utility IFer. And he would not cost much...maybe a bench player on the A or AA team. I do know for a fact that I'd like to see another starter here, be it Russ Ortiz or Randy Johnson...someone that is pretty damn good.
-
But it's perfectly fine for Chip Caray to say "BELTED, DEEP TO LEFT CENTER, WAY BACK AND GONE!", but when another player hits one, he gets into this little "I'm a sad little b****" tone of voice and just says "Belted deep to right field, and the Brewers have taken the lead." Hawk and DJ are "homers" for rooting for the Sox like they do. But, atleast both of them know what's going on down on the field. Caray is clueless. What can I say, other then Cubs fans are hypocrites
-
Baggs, we have lefty power. Valentin leads all SS's with homers in 17, and all of them have come from the left side of the plate. I like Gload...but he should be nothing more then a 1B/LF/RF type player. He has very little range in the outfield, and not a very strong arm.
-
Sound familiar?

Says who? Liking the Cubs is not that big of a deal. I would be more concerned if a Sox fan was also cheering for the Twins or Indians...two teams who are in the division. I dislike the Cubs because of their fans. That's all.
-
I agree. Harris is probably not a leadoff hitter(this year anyways), and Uribe is better suited in the 7th spot(lower OBP, decent average, good speed, decent power). It would be like Alomar last year. He's ideally a #2 hitter, but in that lineup, led off. No big deal as far as I'm concerned...we damn near won a division with him leading off.
-
It's "sexy" enough for me! I'm liking it more and more. Just do it baby!
-
USCF is a hitters paradise. Essentially the Coors away from Coors
-
Kendall is the ideal #2 hitter. High contact, high OBP, but not a ton of speed. I just don't see a better option leading off. Uribe is not a leadoff hitter(in fact, he is not a good #2 hitter either...he should be hitting 7th or so), Perez is not fast enough, Harris is tailing off, and Rowand doesn't seem fast enough(and seems better suited lower in the order). And we only have 1 or 2 spots for those 4. If we were to get Kendall, he'd almost have to leadoff. Regardless, our lineup could look very dangerous... Kendall - C Lee - LF Maggs - RF Thomas - DH Valentin - SS Konerko - 1B Uribe - 2B Crede - 3B Rowand - CF .300 hitters on top and bottom, and all kinds of power in between. Also, Perez and Harris can get some playing time now and then too.

Damn that feels good.

Buehrle's been good, but Loaiza has been shaky at times. I knew he wasn't going to put up a 2.50 ERA for most of the year again, but I figured his ERA would be under 4.00 at the very least...instead, it's around 4.25. I'll gladly take the 8-2 and 8-3 though. In the end, the wins are all that matter.
-
I always thought he was a decent pitcher who choked in big games. I guess that's just in September! Big outing...we needed this badly.
-
I can almost guarantee you that they won't choke. Once Sho comes back(or once we get another starter), there is not a damn thing the Twinks can do about it. And the Wild Card will not come out of the AL Central. I heard that too. That guy is a dumbf***. One of Anaheim, Texas, Oakland, and Boston will win the Wild Card. It will not be the Twins. And the Cubs suck ass.
-
They pretty much need to take on 50% of it for us to even CONSIDER a deal. $34 mill over the next 3 years is a s***load of money. I highly doubt it happens, personally.
-
I just thought of this, but perhaps this game is bigger then we all think. I mean, this could be a huge confidence boost for Garcia. He goes out and has a s***ty outing(and he'd probably be the first to tell you that), and he comes out with a victory. That tells him he can just go out and pitch and that the offense will bail him out if he makes a mistake. As I said before...if he were still a Mariner, he would be 4-8 after tonight's performance. Instead, he is 5-7. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say his next outing is awesome. At the very least, a quality start, and I'm thinking even more then that.

ESPN Rob Neyer says White Sox to win AL Central
witesoxfan replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We very well could be the best team in the AL right now. We have a top 2 offense in the league(IMO, only the Yankees could have a better one then us), and a top 2 rotation in the league(IMO, only the A's have a better one). Our bullpen is not as deep as it should be, but Politte-Marte-Shingo is about as solid as you are going to see in the AL(Politte has been better as of late, do not let his high 4 ERA scare you). Right now, I'm starting to think we may have all we need to win. We could definately use another top of the rotation starter, but our rotation is solid regardless. And that contact hitter I thought we needed could be Aaron Rowand...he seems to be putting good swings on balls right now. I'd love to have Jason Kendall...I just don't think that's possible. -
So 15-13 3.87 in 242 innings is unsuccessful all of a sudden? It is not ace material, like he should have been, but it is not unsuccessful. And that was only Freddy Garcia's first start. He has about 15 or so left. He hasn't been successful by any means yet.
-
If he continues to pitch like this, he's fine. It's when he throws fastball after fastball after fastball when he starts to get lit. His mixes in that slider and he can be unhittable. I still think we could use another good arm out of the pen. Be it Smoltz or Urbina or whomever. Another arm would not hurt in the least.

Big game tomorrow. Last game of a 3-game set against the Twins on the road, with the Cubs series coming up. We win this, we could have all kinds of momentum heading into Wrigley...would feel kind of like going to NY and then Cleveland for 7 games all together and coming out 7-0. With Garland pitching? I'm nervous as hell. Every time we've needed him to step it up, it has not necessarily been deer in the headlights, but more or less he just pitches like s***. We need him to pitch well...6 or 7 strong innings would do.
