  1. Mariotti is right on the button. Anyone who thinks this town is NOT a Sox town right now is not thinking.
  2. You gotta know that Santana is gonna start throwing the s*** out of the ball the second I give him up. Which of course he does. Giles still hasn't returned yet though. I'm hoping he keeps sucking ass and staying hurt and that Bellhorn remains good for me. And then I hope Moyer is dealt...preferably to New York or Boston, but if he got dealt to the NL, I wouldn't be sad either.
  3. Atleast Hawk and DJ give props to the Cubs. Stone would say something beyond stupidity, and the nation would wonder what the f*** he was talking about.
  4. Mike Lieberthal is decent. Thanks qwerty.
  5. I agree to that...seriously. That fact that that f***wad is gone makes me happy every time I think about it.
  6. That's like exactly what I want from Davis. If he can do that, we have a steal. Jas(or anyone for that matter)...do you know who Davis has been compared to offensively(if he were to reach his potential, that is)?
  7. Essentially yes. 1998 - Posada had 358 ABs, Girardi has 254 1999 - Posada had 379 ABs, Girardi had 209 Yeah, those look even enough to me to be considered a platoon. Same thing happened in Arizona in 2001. Miller had 380 ABs, and Moeller/Barajas had 162 ABs. This is not saying you can't win with a stud catcher. It's just saying that you can win with or without a stud catcher. Having a good platoon is what matters most.
  8. Michael was more sure then that that he would never play again. I won't believe it till I see it.
  9. I like him not giving up two regulars. I would almost rather had him give up Crede over Olivo though.
  10. Just to point this out...here are the splits from the starting catchers of the last several World Champion teams. Year Player Team AVG HR RBI OBP SLG% OPS 2003 Ivan Rodriguez Florida .297 16 85 .369 .474 .843 2002 Bengie Molina Anaheim .245 5 47 .274 .322 .596 2001 Damian Miller Arizona .271 13 47 .337 .424 .761 2000 Jorge Posada New York .287 28 86 .417 .527 .943 1999 Jorge Posada New York .245 12 57 .341 .401 .742 1998 Jorge Posada New York .268 17 63 .350 .475 .825 1997 Charles Johnson Florida .250 19 63 .347 .454 .801 Just to prove that you do not need a stud catcher to win a World Series. Having a catcher that can shut down the running game(Molina), or one that calls a good game(or is just fortunate enough to have two of the best pitchers in the league on the same team...either case, Damian Miller 2001), or just flat out having a good supporting cast(Jorge Posada in 98 and 99). I will miss Big Mo for what he will do in the future. But we needed a pitcher, and the only way we were going to get Garcia from the Yanks was by giving up Big Mo.
  11. I wouldn't mind Dan Wilson. Too damn bad we got Ben Davis who's hitting .091.
  12. I suggested this before in another thread, but I'll do it again... What if we used Garland out of the pen? Him going there would be not only help the depth of the pen, but to also light a fire under his ass...like Ramon Ortiz in Anaheim. I'm fine with Scho in the rotation...other then his past few starts, he has been solid. And I like him as a lefty in the rotation.
  13. Don't get all touchy and soft on us now. Ah, hell, I'm touchy and soft right now...trade Big Mo with no signs of it at all. So you're welcome!
  14. That's sweet as hell. I just hope we can put a bigger cushion on that Cardinals lead next weekend. We all know that a 5 game lead is not safe, hell, an 8 game lead is not safe. The Twinks were back 7.5 at the ASB last year, traded Kielty for Stewart, and look at what happened to them. I hope the Cubs are out 10+ games at the ASB, because if they're not, they have a chance.
  15. I'm not sure how well KW sings. He's probably better then Ashlee Simpson anyways. I hope he can sign these players too. That would be nice Personally, I think we resign Jose(2 years, $5 or $6 mill for the whole deal...05 he is the main starter, but he starts to play a little more 2B and 3B along with SS, and in 06 he becomes the super utility guy for us), Esteban, and we make a serious attempt at resigning both Garcia and Maggs. I'd say that we resign Garcia(younger, quite possibly better, and costs less too), but who knows. If we go deep into the playoffs, and we get 2.3 mill fans at the end of the year, perhaps we resign everyone we need. I'm not sure.
  16. I would be pissed beyond belief. Unless of course Ben Davis becomes a constant .320 40 120 1.000 threat year in and year out. And we all know that's not happening.
  17. I know Olivo will take it like a man. He will meet his new teammates and they will grow. He will become one of the league's best catchers, and by the time FA rolls around for him, there will be teams lining up to sign him. Above average power, decent bat, decent basestealer, cannon for an arm, and very likable? Sounds a little like a young Ivan Rodriguez almost. Given, I do not think he will be the next IRod. I think he'll come up just a bit short, but will draw comparisons to him. We gave up a good one. I can only hope the franchise has enough common sense to realize how good he is and that if he become a FA, they consider going after him. If Olivo is like I think he is, he will be a man about the whole situation and will put these feelings behind him. He's a hell of a good young player to build a franchise around.
  18. Maybe it's just me, but I think we should leave it at one trade for the week. 2 huge trades like that, especially trading very likable players...I don't know if I can take that.
  19. Or, at the very least, they love most of them. This is harder then hell to lose Big Mo. It almost feels like someone died.
  20. cw, how do you do it? You are a wizard of the word. You summed up exactly how I feel on this whole situation. In fact, I think you sum up what everyone thinks about this. I think this is the post of the week right here!
  21. Yeah, but Maggs+Rowand+Rauch/Diaz>Ortiz+Jones That's why this deal should not happen. Personally, I don't think either happens. If anything, I see us acquiring a lesser guy that no one even considers(or that no one wants, because he doesn't put up .300 average or 20-30 homers...I think we will get a guy like Schneider or Molina or perhaps Davis will even be good enough...I am not sure yet)
  22. That's called common sense. Jeckle has never had that in the 14 years of his life.
