The panic button is usually hit when you've made a few acquisitions and your team starts playing worse. Unless by the panic button you mean when does he make a move. In that case, it has got to be very, very soon.

Takatsu WAS awful. Awful enough, IIRC, that, had he not had a guaranteed contract, he would have been released or at the very least, sent to the minors. Good thing that didn't happen.
-
And your point is?

I must need to watch more movies. Anyways, I thought Major League 3, back to the minors was pretty awful. I mean, you don't trade a whole team and the announcer to another team, and then that other team sends them down to the minors. Not working for me, sorry. Oh yeah, Club Dread did suck ass. Worst $7.50 I have ever spent in my life. I think it was supposed to be a comedy and a horror flick at the same time, and those two usually don't work well together.

Mark Buehrle's first 5 starts of 2001... 1-3, 5.52 ERA, 6.10 RA His first real good outing came in his 5th start. In that 5th start, against Seattle, he threw 8 strong innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run. He got a no-decision in that start(as Freddy Garcia was just as good). If not for that start against Seattle, Buehrle's ERA would have been 7.04, and his RA would have been 7.83. The numbers do not lie. At this point, however, it is too late to just bring up a 5th starter and put him in the rotation, because by the time he got settled in, we'd be somewhere around the ASB, or maybe even past it(I can't say exactly). A move has to be made, because we need a stable 5th starter(and I'd hope it would be Garland or Schoeneweis after we get a top 3 starter).

OK, 16.5 games in front is NOT cool. Don't make me pull a '95 Mariners on your ass. -

What would it take to get Miguel Batista?
witesoxfan replied to Butter Parque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It was something along those lines. I think he and Michael Barret were kind of in the same boat. IIRC, Oakland did get Redman, and, after getting Barret from the A's after they got him from the Expos, the Cubs nearly lost him. They signed him like right before the deadline(as we did Scho) -
Yeah, I didn't get why they changed that name either. I mean, Washington Bullets fit the city perfectly.

I also think part of the reason Redman was dealt was due to Burnett coming back this year. Lee was dealt for financial reasons though. -
Wanna make a bet?

I have no doubt in my mind the Cubs will win it. That lineup, when healthy, is a very formidable lineup and can put up numbers in a hurry. Their pitching staff is top 2 in the majors(right there with Florida's...don't ask me whose's is better, cuz I don't know), and, assuming they add a bullpen piece or two(and I have no doubt they will), they are nearly unstoppable. A rotation of Prior-Wood-Zambrano-Maddux-Clement is as unfair as Beckett-Penny-Willie-Pavano-Burnett I don't want it to happen, but I'm afraid it will. The Cards don't have the pitching, neither do the Reds, and I just don't see the Astros doing it.

Because we have yet to outscore our opponents for 9 innings in 11 consecutive games. And because we have no 5th starter.
-
He's a horse. Bartolo Colon threw 150 pitches in a game a couple years ago for Cleveland...that totally f***ed him up. Pitch counts for guys with real good mechanics is overrated. If you are fluid, you can throw 200 pitches in a game and not get burnt out, so long as you ice the s*** out of it right after that. I could give a s*** how many pitches he throws...if we could get him, he WOULD help us in the postseason. It's too bad the Giants are in the NL West race.

So, in fact, no Japanese player HAS let us down. -

Lidle signed with Cincinatti in the offseason Lilly was traded from Oakland to Toronto for Bobby Kielty. Redman was traded from Florida to Oakland(not sure for whom...but IIRC, it happened very close to or perhaps on the same day as the Kotsay for Long and Hernandez deal went down...a move many thought was one of Beane's worst as GM of the A's, but from what I can tell, Kotsay has been solid, and Long and Hernandez have been less then spectacular) And, IIRC, I was on and off the Perez bandwagon for much of the offseason. Part of me wanted it to get done, but part did not. I was pretty much split. -
Ah, but we have Cleveland at home before the Cubs series. We shall see brighter times in the not-to-distant future(mainly because, after a series like that, there's only one place to go but up...but also because I feel they will get hot very shortly).

IIRC, Lidle is a RHP. Atleast I think he is. Maybe he switched to LH. And I don't think the LH/RH thing really bothered KW and JR. I think it was the $$$ thing that bothered them. The payroll was already up a lot, so Rogers and Batista were probably not coming just for that. Can't say that I know why they didn't go after Lidle and Redman. Maybe they figured using Wright in the #5 spot would work just fine, considering the numbers he put up in 2002. I'm steaming just a little that we didn't trade Lee or Konerko to LA for Odalis Perez when we had the shot. While both Lee and Konerko are having fine seasons respectively, Perez is having an excellent year in LA. Oh well. -
link What the hell, first he 1-hits the Cubs, then he 1-hits the Red Sox. First of all, I'm just hoping that Barry Bonds lands on the DL and misses 3-4 weeks so the Giants drop out of the race, so that way we can give up a s***load and get this guy...he is a f***ing stud. He is now 9-2 with a 2.26 ERA and is just insanely good. We need a guy like this to be our #1 starter. Second of all...when the hell will he just NOT give up a hit and throw a no-no?

I would like to see Gagne throw a 96 mph fastball somewhere else when Lofton gets up, but I won't go any further

Upcoming Series with Indians doesn't look good
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
According to that logic, if you get swept by Detroit last year, everyone on your team should have been given a blindfold and a cigarette. Give me a f***ing break. They are all major leaguers out there. Any team can win on any given day. Period. -
What CF issue? Harris is hitting like .310 or .320.
