So You Think That the 2004 Cubs Are Unstoppable?
witesoxfan replied to C.Rector's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still think the Cubs win the division. The Astros don't seem to match up to them. The main questions for the Cubs are the same, those being the back of the rotation(mainly just the #5 starter, but also if Matt Clement can rebound), and the bullpen(as we all know that one move does not make a bullpen). Their offense isn't the greatest either though. Houston plays in a bandbox, so I wouldn't count too much on Andy Pettitte, though I still think the bullpen and lineup remain rock solid(even with Wagner gone from the pen) -
That is not doubted at all. The Cowboys showed their weaknesses tonight, those being at the halfback position and at the quarterback position. I could see a guy like Jeff Smoker or Josh Harris getting selected by Parcells in the 2nd or 3rd round and fixed up into a good QB.

You'd think so, but I wouldn't be so sure with Herb. He seems to be a guy that just wants to win. He is missed in Chicago. If Konerko were ever dealt, or Crede hurt, I'd welcome Herbert back in a second. He is a great player and is very clutch.

Panthers win 29-10....enough said. In other news, Tennessee wins a close game 20-17....of course, I'm sure everyone knows this already and I'm just repeating old news. That's OK though.

Dabby's right....Texas had him. Not sure if he is still with them, but he was in 2002, and he hit like 25 homers.

I haven't been on the MLB boards since like February of 2003. They are just too s***ty.

MILKMAN!!!

Pitchers have done it before. It's called a torn labrum or a very f***ed up elbow, and it results from being overworked. Remember Jason Isringhausen? He closed for Oakland for a few years, got the s*** worked out of him, and now he is always injured and takes like 2 innings to get warmed up for the Cards. Would not surprise me if the same thing happened to Koch, and probably won't surprise me if it happens to Foulke(though it is less likely because he does not throw nearly as hard as Izzy and Koch). Let's hope for the good of us that Koch does bounce back, but I'm not counting on it.

I really do not think he'll end up in the AL unless he is promised to be put in the lineup during all of his starts, and we all know what the odds of that happening are, don't we? I think St. Louis and the Cubs are the main contenders in the deal, but do not count out Arizona. If they can maybe get an extra $5 mill somewhere, they could potentially make a run for him too. They get rid of Matt Mantei and they are in race for Maddux.

Come back anytime Brando. I have a ton of respect for your knowledge of anything and everything. And once you leave, I'll be one of the only Jose supporter on here....so I have a large load on my shoulders!

Mariners will need to trade Carlos Guillen
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hell no. Guillen isn't better then Valentin offensively and Valentin has more range then him defensively. That would be a very s***ty-ass move. -
I disagree. D'Angelo has all the potential in the world. If he had any work ethic whatsoever, he would be one of the best 2Bman in the league.

Trade with the Dodgers, someone jsut posted it...
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That would be worse then Wells, Fogg, and Lowe for Ritchie. Did not happen, will not happen...well, not like that anyways -
I agree with that very much. It is funny as hell to see these older men with very fake looking dye jobs(nothing personal to any of us who have done that on here or are currently doing it)

I'd probably go and buy $190 million worth of lottery tickets. If you bought that many lottery tickets, do you know what the odds are that you'll win? They are pretty f***ing good. Even if I didn't win(and what are the odds of that?), I'd still have $10 mill left over. Though I'd actually probably only have $9 million left because I'd use $1 mill of it giving to people to look over my lottery tickets. One person alone cannot look at every ticket of $190 mill worth of lottery tickets. Then I'd go to the local casino and play some Black Jack and some 5-card hold em. Of course, absolutely NONE of thise is legal for me yet. I can play online Black Jack and 5-card hold em online, so I have that going for me, which is nice(I've been wanting to say that for the whole day, so I had to get it out....throw a little Caddyshack into the mix)

I wish I could join with an XBox, but I cannot. Madden does not have XBox Live capabilities. Sounds fun though. Have fun.

And if we did that and he went on to some other team and become a stud closer(which is very possible) we'd be kicking ourselves. Wright has very good stuff and you can't just give the guy away for nothing, but he may never put it together. Regardless, you have to give the guy a shot, and after 4 years if he's still s***ty as hell, you can non-tender him if his cost becomes too high. BTW, George Steinbrenner wouldn't stand it because he can spend $250 million on the Yankees. JR won't spend $80 mill, so we have to live with it. It's what you get with being a White Sox fan. Deal with it.

Borchard hasn't proven anything yet, you are right. But if Joe reaches his full potential, he is one of the best hitters in the majors, period. He shortens up that swing, and he could become a .275 45 125 type player, maybe even better. He has LTP. And with limited experience before being drafted, I like his chances even more. IIRC, Todd Helton got drafted by Colorado as a very raw but very talented baseball player at 22, but gave him time to develop because he had little playing experience(because I know he was a QB at Tennessee and I believe he was at one time a backup to Peyton Manning). They gave him a few years to develop and I believe he hit the bigs at 26 or 27, and was an offensive force to be reckoned with and hit .360 one year, or something very close to it. Vernon Wells had a very similar path to the big leagues in Toronto(though he made it earlier age-wise), and he's only hitting 40 homers and driving in 130 runs now a days while playing some rock solid CF. I am not giving up on Borchard yet.....not even close.

Hey, he likes to be lucky like that. Remember Marte? Traded Guerrier(who looked like a pretty good prospect at the time) for Marte, who was going to be placed on waiver, and then Edwin Yan(who at the time was just a throw in). Since that trade, Guerrier has done s*** with the Pirates while Marte has become one of the best, if not the best, left-handed reliever in the game today, and Edwin Yan and since changed his name to Ruddy Yan and has become a guy with a possible but not definite future in the big leagues. I'm trying to recall a small move like that where he made the move to get lucky and it backfired hugely on him. All I can really think of is Royce Clayton. He was lucky, but he was smart enough to actually get something for him and he got a raw talent for him(I believe he was a raw talent anyways). Trading Sandy did not hurt us that season because we then found out that the Paul-Johnson combo sucks ass and we ended up getting Sandy back anyways in the offseason. And I'll give kudos to Juan Nieves for what he's done as well.

Does anyone think that if Jarrett maybe put on a little more weight he might be a decent fullback? Jarrett is 210 pounds, and Mike Anderson is probably the lightest FB in the league and weighs 230. I would have to imagine it might not hurt to have a fullback with a little speed. I just watch Jarrett and figure that since he is a big physical back that he would have a shot at it.

WU83, you can say the exact same thing about the players he gave up. Really the only "lock" to make the majors out of those you mentioned is Ring. Hummell also made the majors with the Reds(who was traded for Sullivan). Diaz and Pacheco both look good(and when you consider that Pacheco was obtained from the Rockies and that it really did not hurt us and that he has a shot at doing something in the majors....that's pretty incredible. Kudos to Kenny for getting Pacheco). As far as his worst moves....Sirotka for Wells was terrible. It made KW look like a dirtbag GM, trading an injured pitcher for a guy coming off of a 20-win season....what the hell, you know? And then Wells goes off and rips Thomas for not playing with a minor injury(whil in reality, it was a torn tricep). What people don't remember is that Thomas and Wells did make up and are fine with each other now and he gave Buehrle a wealth of information to become a successful major league pitcher, and what as he done since then but had a 16 win season and pitch very well(he had an incredible 2001 season), damn near had a 20-win 2002 campaign and won quite a few big games last year for us. I hope to hell we get to the playoffs before Mark changes uniforms....I really would love to see what he would do in the playoffs. His worst move by far has been the Wells, Lowe, and Fogg for Ritchie trade. That did nothing but kill us. Todd only went 5-16 with a 6.00 ERA for us, then left the next year to Milwaukee(where I don't believe he even threw a pitch). He damn near became the first 20-game loser, but went on the DL with a shoulder injury. You'd also have to consider Clayton, Koch, and the fact that he damn near got us Erstad(which would have been bad because he would have given up Garland and Singleton along with two prospects)

One of the best(or at the very least, not bad) and worst trades in Sox history is the same trade, and has been mentioned before, that being the Sosa trade. Best(or not bad) in that we had Sosa, who had supposedly beaten his wife with a rum bottle in the Domincan Republic(I believe it was there anyways), who was playing very s***ty at the time(in 1991, his last year with the Sox, he hit .203 10 33 with 13 stolen bases, 14 walks, and 98 strikeouts in just over 300 at bats. You translate that out, and it is a s***ty season, and his previous season wasn't much better) and we got George Bell, who did have one decent season with the White Sox in 92, and he "helped" us win the division crown in 1993 with his very bad numbers(.217 13 64). He also had a division crown with the White Sox in playing with us for 2 years. Sosa finally got his first division title with the Cubs this past season, his 12th season with the Cubs, and only his 2nd playoff appearance, and winning is everything, correct? Had we kept Sosa, there's also a chance that we never get Maggs(or the opposite could have happened in that we do get Maggs and trade Sosa at the deadline to say maybe a hungry Yankees team or Red Sox team and we get Soriano or Trot Nixon or someone else), or maybe we keep him and he never catapults him to the level he is at now and retires at an early age. You never know. I think how it was one of the worst is self-explanatory. He has since gone on and hit some 500+ home runs with the Cubs, made himself a national icon and even has some signature moves copied by probably millions of people all over the world(his hop, stutter step, kiss blowing, sprinting to RF....all his annoying little hops and skips), and has made the Cubs the thing in Chicago to watch(in sports, that is). In all reality, the White Sox take a backseat to the Cubs.

Played baseball, bowling, and am going to try football again this upcoming fall. That'll be a b****, but will be worth it in the end.

It would take a while to compile the stats, but you would be able to find it on retrosheet
