And the first ball he hit of the day was a fly ball to the warning track(his 2nd and 3rd at bats I believe provided the two homers)

If you can tolerate one more rumor...

Reed could play RF with Rowand playing CF and Harris playing 2B, or Rowand could play RF with Harris in CF and Uribe(or someone else) at 2B, or a guy like Mondesi could be signed to play RF with Rowand in CF and Harris at 2B. There are all kinds of things that could be done. If we can ever get rid of Konerko, I wouldn't mind seeing Randall Simon here. He is a pretty good hitter and will put the ball in play, even if he does whack some sausage or he played for the Cubs. -
I bet Jose Mesa is a happy grandpa of atleast 2 by now.
-
But we got Cotts
-
Both came up with an AL team too. Ritchie came up with Minny, Person with I believe Baltimore, and then both returned to the same respective divisions of their first MLB team later on in their career(Ritchie to the White Sox, Person to the Red Sox). Then both got injured too, and missed most if not all of a season. That's all I got though.
-
Both, but I'd worry more about clock management. If I were the coach of a football team(which I am not), the 3 things I would say you need in order to succeed are winning the turnover battle, clock management, and time of possession.
-
Oh definately, he is double dangerous, with the run and pass.

This is from rotoworld on Jimmy Rollins possible future with the Phillies: I assume the guy can play 2B, if not, I'm almost certain Jose can. We've said that all we want is Harris to hit .250-.260, and while Harris isn't making $2.4 mill a year, he also has never had a season where he's hit .275 15 55 with a SB ratio of 46 steals, caught only 8 times. BTW, I'm talking more or less mid-season then within the next month or two.

4, soon to be a 5th season with Jose Valentine, err, Valentin.

According to mlb.com, he is still unsigned to this day link

Trump is negotiating to buy a sports franchise

Damn right. -
That's because they suck

I was hoping someone would say that. If I had to take a QB to build a team around, there is absolutely no question I would take Peyton. However, the question is who would you rather have in a championship game. That's simple enough, Tom Brady has never lost a playoff game, Peyton Manning is 2-3 in the playoffs. I'll take Brady, thank you very much.

As an FYI... The Rams defense led the league in turnovers forced and had about twice as many sacks as the Bears defense did. If he can be a coach that can control time well, the Bears IMO, will win. I personally think that the two biggest factors in a winning team from a losing team is time of possession and turnovers. If you control the ball most of the game and have a + turnover rating, you'll win most of the time, I don't care who is on your team. The only time that theory does not work out is when Peyton Manning goes 30-50 for 400 yards, 5 TD's and 4 INT's, because the way their offense just goes and does not stop, you'll have the ball more then them almost every game because of their quick strike ability, sort of like their game against Denver in the playoffs. I am quite sure Denver won the time of possession battle, but they got smoked because they do not have the quick strike ability that the Colts do....no team does.

Buffalo hires Mularkey to coach Bills

Sounds good, because the Bills offense was awful last year. Damn near the worst in the league in every category but rushing. -

Well, he is the 71st richest person in America with about $2.5 BILLION net worth. I'll take my chances. I really couldn't see payroll not increasing and I'd like to see what he could do to make us #1 in Chicago. Think of what we could have done this offseason if we could have maybe an extra 30-40 mil. We Could have got Colon, Ponson, and Vlad. We might have had to overpay, but that is just spare change to trump. He does "throw it away" if you want to call it that, but you don't think he'd make it back? He maybe ups the average attendance for games from 20,000-25,000 to 35,000-40,000 with renovations and the Sox actually being decent. He makes us a contender, spends money, gives the fans a reason to go, markets them, maybe sends them to the playoffs, maybe they get 2 or 3 breaks, end up in the World Series, and win the whole damn thing. As some have said, this White Sox team is an undiscovered gold mine. We win the Series before the Cubs, and we are not only the team in Chicago, but maybe even the league. We win constantly for 3-5 years, and maybe we are "America's baseball team." You never know what could happen. He could gain millions and millions of dollars by owning us and taking us somewhere. It is almost literally insane to think of what could happen. -
rotoworld Just thought I'd post it if anyone cared....though I don't think anyone really does

I already said what I would do in a different thread, so I'll try to summarize it. For starters, this occurs very early in the offseason. I first trade Maggs to LA for Perez, Mota, and then Jackson and/or Miller(which I know they won't accept, that's why I sweeten it by throwing in Schowenweis, David Sanders, and Felix Diaz). I then trade Konerko and Borchard to Anaheim for Troy Percival, along with $1.5 mill extra(Anaheim takes the deal, knowing they can still go out and get another arm with their extra $1 mill because Konerko's deal adds $500 K if he is traded, meaning he goes from making $7.5 for us to making $8 mill in Anaheim and they get a potential huge stud in the majors someday in Borchard, a guy who can possibly hit 40-50 homers a year if he figures it out). I then trade Koch and Ginter to NYM for Weathers. I then sign Matt Stairs and Reggie Sanders with $5-6 mill that I have left over(I figure $8 mill from the Maggs trade, then $6.5 mill after the Konerko traded, then about $10.5 mill after the Koch trade). Also, instead of trading Miles for Uribe, I just keep Miles, and I have he and Harris see who can have the better ST and the winner will obviously get 2B. I also make a few moves to help improve the bench, though if I were GM, I'd figure them out later. Harris 2B/Rowand CF Sanders RF Thomas DH/1B Stairs 1B/DH Lee LF Valentin SS Crede 3B Rowand CF/Harris 2B Olivo C Loaiza, Buehrle, Garland, Perez, Wright/Grilli/Rauch/someone else Bullpen with Percival closing, Marte and Mota setting up, Weathers and Wunsch as middle relief, and then a #6 guy(whether it be that we sign Politte or Dan Wright or Grilli, etc). Bench would probably have Gload, Miles, Alomar, Orlando Palmeiro, and Denny Hocking. Lineup makes about $25.5 mill, rotation makes about $15 mill, bullpen makes $15 mill, and the bench makes about $4.5. Together, it would be about $60 mill, and while this would seem overbudget, I rounded almost everything up, and I couldn't remember how much Loaiza and Buehrle made exactly, so I said $4 mill for both, and I believe both make $3.5 mill, which would save another million; I said Perez made $4 mill, and he might only make $3.5-$4, somewhere in that area; I had Garland making $2.5 while he only makes $2.3; I had Marte making $1.5 and he may only make $1; I had Mota making $2 and he may only make $1-$1.5; I had every minimum wage player making $500 K, etc. In the end, we would be lower in the budget. BTW, if you meant how would I fix the team now, IMO, there is next to nothing that can be done. Trading Maggs would free up money, but what would you spend the money on? The only thing it would be helpful with is using at the trade deadline, and at that time we may be sellers, not buyers.

Billy doesn't give a s*** about winning the World Series. The playoffs, according to him, are just lucky. It's his job to get them there by acquiring players, whether it be via trade or via free agency or via his minor league system. If his team wins the World Series, more credit to him....he doesn't care about that. Billy Beane has gotten the A's to the playoffs 4 straight years, and his team has won 100+ games 3 years in a row. How many teams has KW been the GM of that have won 90 games? And just as a throw in, KW has had MORE money then Beane. Beane's average payroll has probably been about $40-$45 mill, not our $50-$55 mill....that's an extra $5-15 mill that has been spent, and that is quite a difference.

witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I know the Bills are looking at a tight end in the first round, whether it be Troupe or Winslow, and youd'd have to assume they are going to look at some O-linemen like you said as well. I've also read where if Tennessee can't resign Kearse, that the Bills would probably be one of the teams looking to sign him. -
Hey bastard, that range is 73 wins-162 wins And if you want a serious win total from me, I'll say 81
-
I think he would. At the very least, I would have to say a high position in the front office of a club at the very least.
-
If they do, we should trade whatever it takes for Mike Cameron.
-
162-0. Just like I said they were going to do last year.

I don't recall blaming KW for our bad salaries, but he can't go unscathed. He was the one who gave Konerko the 3-year, $23.5 mill deal, or he was atleast in the negotiating room. I love Maggs as much as anyone, but a financially strapped team cannot have one player making 25% of the team's salary, which is what Maggs is damn near doing with his $14 mill. I personally feel that the most you should go is $10 mill, the same as the Marlins did last year with IRod. I realize that the Red Sox and Yankees would be fine with Maggs at $14 mill a year, but we spend $60 mill a year, not $120 or $180 mill, like the Red Sox and Yankees do respectively. Miles for Uribe is nothing....that move is very minor, so to say there was a winner and a loser is kind of absurd IMO. Sure we lost Miles....we got Uribe. Neither has had good numbers in the majors, so who knows what's going to happen. Our worst contracts are $7-8 mill, like you said. However, with a $60 mill payroll, you can't have those on your team unless they are putting up awesome, almost MVP-type numbers. Konerko's .235 20 65 last year is far from MVP, and Koch's 5 or 6 blown saves(including one against the DRays in which Carl f***ing Crawford hit a walk-off homer) and his 5.75 ERA are not very impressive, and those two combined this year are making $14 mill, which is 25% of our payroll. That obvoiusly means that 50% of our payroll, or about that, is being spent on 3 players, 2 of whom are not even guaranteed to have really good years. I realize there is no such thing as a perfect GM, because even Billy Beane makes mistakes(and he's as close to a perfect GM as there is in the game today). But you need to get as close to perfection as you can, and KW did not get there this offseason. Maybe he'll do something between now and ST that will blow my mind, but I don't think that will happen. Maybe he'll do something at the trading deadline that will just overwhelm me and make us all faint. All we can do is see if it happens. BTW, there is no comparison between Evans and KW. Evans is quite possibly the worst GM in the game today.
