I personally like to call him "Flat Tires" Konerko

August , what more do you have to see, there is not a switch in dugout to start hitting and winning it will not take until then to be 12 games under There wasn't a switch in the dugout from June and July of last year to August and September of last year except Don Cooper, the pitching coach, in late June. Somehow, I suppose by "magic", the offense just came to life after two lifeless months. This team just likes to take 2 months off sometime during the year.....whether it be early in the year(2001 and thus far 2003) or in the middle(2002). They then come to life.
-
This offense scored 850 runs last year....and you're going to try to tell me that this offense sucks?
-
Show me where he was pointing fingers. I want to see this
-
Good range, he hits well in the clutch, and he has good power. He's the type of ballplayer that makes things happen. He is hitting very poorly right now. He'll break out of it.
-
Apparently, we'll see in August who's right and who's wrong. I saw signs of life today....even without watching the game. If Crede hits 2 homers in 1 series...then that is an accomplishment, and he is obviously getting hot again. Also...Jim....this team DOES have talent. It is the product on the field that counts. This bullpen could easily be the best in the league. The starting rotation could be one of the better ones as well....and once the offense comes around....you'll see a totally different picture.

Run, run, run, run, run! Always running from the truth! This team sucks. Just face reality and it wont hurt as much when theyre still here two months from now. Two months from now, it aint gonna bother me that were still under .500 because Im expecting such. Two months from now, everybody whos running from the truth thinking were still in the race is gonna jump of a building or something. We lost two straight to the Tigers. Who in their right mind thinks this team has any chance? In 2001, we were 20-30 after May. The offense had struggled (scoring only 215 runs, or approximately 4.3 a game) and the pitching had struggled as well(allowing 264 runs, or approximately 5.28 a game). We then turned it around and played .560 ball the rest of the year, going 63-49. Do the first two months of this year appear to look very much like the first two months of 2001? If I had to give you an answer....I'd probably say yes. I'd actually prefer to see what is going to happen in the next 4 months then to say that we'll suck because we're playing like s*** now. This team, right now, looks like s*** and they are playing like s***. If someone disagreed....they should be slapped. Then again....what happens today isn't necessarily going to happen tomorrow, let alone a month or two from now. You think this team will just go into the Cubs series with no heart whatsoever? Highly f***ing doubtful. And howd they finish in 2001? With 83 wins and 79 losses? No, that is unacceptable... Point taken. That team also had worse starting pitching and they played in a tougher division. We finish this month .500...at about 25-25....and play .560 baseball...we end up with 93-95 wins. That could very easily be enough to win the division. Trust me....I'm as tired of underachieving as anyone. But I'm not ready to give up on the season after 8 or 9 weeks. Anyone remember 1995, when the M's were 13 back in August and won the division? That probably won't happen for another 25-50 years or so.....if ever....but it clearly shows that stranger things have happened before. If a team that came back from 13 games down in the division race with about 10 weeks left can get into the playoffs, why can't a team that is 5 or 6 games back in late May? Saying we should sell off the team is dumb. If this year, we do disappoint....Colon, Gordon, Thomas, Valentin, Daubach, and possibly Lee, will all be gone(as well as Rios, White, and Alomar)....and no one is counting out that anyone else could be traded. If come the end of July, this team is 10 games out....a firesale will happen. Then and only then will the season really be over.
-
I didn't get it right, so I'll predict something else. We will get no-hit tomorrow, we will lose the rest of our games in the month of May, and will be in last place by the end of June. How's that?
-
That would have to be one hell of a brick!
-
Come on....give me a break. People are talking like the world is crashing down and that this White Sox team is hopeless and that we will lose. I disagree. Does anyone realize how many people in the lineup are underachieving and flat out hitting like crap right now? Off the top of my head....I can think of like 5....and there are a few others you could add into the list. I'm thinking Valentin, Ordonez, Konerko, Crede, and our CF platoon as a whole. You could probably add Lee, Thomas, and possibly Alomar as well. If we get half of those guys going....we'll be on the right track.

Don't know what the hell you are watching but it is not a major league hitting team. I agree with that. Talk to me in 2 months. You know in 2 months if this continues Sox are f***ed. If this continues for 1 more month, they are f***ed. They'll break out of this within the next two weeks.

No it won't. This kind of thing can't last all year...and it will not last all year. Saying this will last all year is stupid.....no offense.
-
Leadoff walk for Joe B. That comes around to score like 70% of the time. How much you wanna bet he doesn't score?
-
We've won some games because of luck. I couldn't tell you our pythagorean W-L, but I know that with it, we are below .500...and that record would be worse then the one we have now.
-
This is f***ing stupid. Esteban Loaiza goes 7 innings while allowing only 1 run...and he is in line for the LOSS. What in the f*** is up with this f***ing team? I wanna f***ing smack someone. I realize this is only one game....but come on. We have 2 hits through f***ing 7 innings against the f***ing Tigers. :fyou this team! Goddamn

Holy s*** On a related topic...all I see on MLB gameday is "Carlos Lee leaves game due to injured head." I personally think that sounds kind of awkward. Let's hope he's alright. That can't be good though.

miles only has 3 errors thus far.. about the same as dj??? i think so.........so they are pretty evenly matched.. only miles isnt lazy........... If Miles is the guy JM wants at 2B and KW is gone..... as you say..... then why is Miles still down in the minors ? Heh, good question. IMO, it is because Aaron just play 2B and D'ang is playing well and hitting well, so he needs to put D'ang in SS and Aaron in 2B, but for him to do this he needs to put Jose in the bench or trade him. And Jose in the bench means clubhouse trouble. Rafa...I have a question to ask you. Do you consider Nomar Garciaparra a bad defensive SS? Yes, i consider but he can hit to compensate his error. Jose is much worse in defense and in the offense. And for that BS of winner mentality, Nomar has much more. I feel that many here would beg to differ. It's not your fault though. Not being able to see the games, you can't see if a player has good range or not. Range doesn't show up in the stats, only errors. Garciaparra is, IMO, one of the best defensive SS's in the majors right now. And Jose Valentin is not the worst....not by far. He's more like middle of the pack, at the worst.

Yeah....he's the fastest guy on the team. His OBP is questionable at like .300....but if he was told his job is to get on base....I'm sure it would increase.
-
However, this same emotionless man was also managing when we won the division in 2000. As I said...we can't get any worse. The only place to go is up.

I'm surprised no one has figured this out

.347, from how Magglio has hit this year so far, is fine by me. If you are not at .340 or so....you are doing poorly, in my mind. You should be at atleast .340. -
The best way for this to happen is for the Sox to realize they aren't playing the stiffest competition here in the next couple weeks, while the teams above them in the standings have to face the two best teams in the American League. If they don't realize this, and don't capitalize on this, they don't deserve to win the division. They've gotta capitalize on potential losses for KC and Minnesota whenever possible instead of giving away games, much like they did last night. No, last night, we just got beat by a better pitcher. All pitchers have to win sometime. Anyways....i think this team will play much better over the next 4 months....and my reasoning is quite simple. They can't get any worse, can they?
-
See, we didn't lose badly to the Tigers. We lost badly to Mike Maroth.....because we lost by 1. See, if you lose to Mike Maroth....no matter the score.....you just got your ass handed to you.

Someone mentioned Steve Finley. I'd package up some players for Finley and Miguel Batista in a heartbeat. Kill 3 birds with 2 stones(LH power, CFer, more starting pitching). If we could somehow talk a team like Baltimore into taking Konerko, that would be great. The Dbacks would give Finley away for nothing as long as you paid his salary. As far as Miguel Bastista, I don't think he's that good of a pitcher and I believe we have a better answer in Jon Rauch or even Josh Stewart. I like Batista because of what I saw in the 2001 World Series. IMO...he's a solid #4 or #5 starter. Either him or John Patterson.
