The official KW appreciation thread
Yeah his 8-2 record and 3.86 ERA blew ass last year. Thank god he is gone. He was a mediocre reliever who's arm was falling off....an ERA over 3.50 as a reliever is mediocre. I could have stood him another year, but the fact that he made about $2.5 mill next year bugged me....why in the hell would you pay $2.5 mill for a reliever not much better than mediocrity(if he is better than mediocrity)? I'd rather pay $1 mill for a guy like Tom Gordon or pay close to nothing for a guy like Matt Ginter even than spend $2.5 mill on Osuna.

All of Kenny Williams moves
Wells helped Buehrle quite a bit in his development...I'm not sure Buehrle would be half the pitcher that he is without Wells. Not only that, but Wells won 5 games for us....I'd say we got the better end of that deal statistically, but came out on the bad end of it in the media....Shouldergate and what not and I believe Brian Simmons was sent back. We then picked up Simmons and then cut him in late ST, this past year. BTW, where the hell is Brian Simmons?

Official Soxtalk.com: Rumor Mill!
less said here the better. Oh God...it's a damn good thing I didn't remember that one. I've had enough years like Garland's year this year....and I see no reason why Zambrano wouldn't have the same kind of year Garland had.

Official Soxtalk.com: Rumor Mill!
Any possibility this may yet happen, or is window of opportunity closed? He signed with San Diego, if I remember correctly.

Official Soxtalk.com: Rumor Mill!
Over the last 7 posts, I think I can conclude one thing.... cwsox wants to become a starter on his little scale thingy, so he decided to rate these things 1 at a time. Only the Vazquez and Ochoa rumors are still possibilities at all anymore...and one could almost count out the Vazquez deal as Montreal will want to keep him to stay competitive. I'd say signing either Ochoa or Palmeiro would be a good move.

First it was Clayton, then Ritchie then....
He was one of the people to mention that the (White) Sox were interested in Colon/Vazquez before we actually made the move. Regardless, he was just kind of rearranging words and making it sound like his own...it was the executive that said he was high-maintenance for such a low player. However, he could put up some decent stats...he is two years removed from tearing his ACL....so maybe he is back to full health and will be able to produce more off the bench. That's all we can hope for. And that he doesn't cause trouble.

Royce Ring
What happens if Ring is great and Marte continues to dominate? That is a simple question....we get a good prospect for Kelly Wunsch...try to get a deal similar to the Mike Myers for Jack Cust deal. Convert Munoz into a starter....we could have a pitching staff similar to this in the next few years(like 2005)... Rauch, Buehrle, Garland, Honel, Munoz Koch, Almonte, Diaz, Ring, Marte, Glover I'm not sure what to think about that

Barrett
maybe b/c olvio may never pan out. Then we use Olivo as a defensive catcher alone....we can only hope that he is as good as he is supposed to be. In a similar debate, HSC knows her stuff....and she said Olivo is one of her boys. She also said that about Maggs, if I remember correctly. Am I right, HSC?

First it was Clayton, then Ritchie then....
Look at this from Rosenthal's inside dish.... "Warning to White Sox manager Jerry Manuel: Those familiar with new Sox outfielder Armando Rios portray him as something of a malcontent. Part of that has stemmed from frustration over injuries, but one executive says, "For a guy that's accomplished as little as he has, he can be pretty high-maintenance." . . . " Also, this on Colon... "White Sox GM Ken Williams says he isn't worried about Bartolo Colon's weight, and another GM also expresses minimal concern, saying Colon fattens up every winter, then dominates from May to September. One scout who saw Colon in the Dominican, however, issues these words of warning: "He's gotten so big all over, his eyes are ready to shut." . . . " I'm more concerned about Rios than Colon....atleast if Rios is an asshole, we can just cut him....he will make, at the most, $1 mill, and we can just bring up Holt or even Borchard to take over the corner outfield duties.

All of Kenny Williams moves
Williams didn't sign Thomas....Reinsdorf did.

Free Agents the Sox should persue
We have Gordon, we should go after Cruz Jr as well. After that, I say we sign 3 very cheap starters to minor league deals...and then have a friendly competition as to who will be in the #5 spot in the rotation between Rauch, Stewart, #1, #2 and #3

Official Soxtalk.com: Rumor Mill!
Damn...he posted that 2 months ago....little did we know we were going to get Colon for an incredibly lower price. Talk about a Blue Light sale.

2003 NFL Free Agents
The Bills better as hell resign Price and Ahanotu, as well as Hollis. And then if the Bills could sign Peter Boulware...he's pretty good defensively as well. They need to stop the run....so they should get some good LB's to help London Fletcher.

bulls lose
Not a big b-ball fan or anything, but wasn't that a questionable call when whoever it was for the Heat was running backwards and then threw the ball over his head? That kind of looked like traveling to me.
-
Barrett
He's good offensively for a catcher, though I'm not sure about his defense. He's going to make about $2.5 mill next year....he just signed a new deal.
-
Ritchie
So what that basically tells any person is that Todd Ritchie is a f***ing stupidass. He accepts less money from a team that will probably lose 100 games because they're in the NL? Good...I'm glad that stupid ass is gone from our team. He sucked anyways. Let him go suck for a sucky team then.

Barrett
I don't know...why would we want Barret?

Who's the IMPACT player?
That's what I was thinking. That means that, at the most, Alomar would catch 2 games a week. What I don't understand is why the organization does not try to convert Josh Paul into a utility infielder....because then not only would he be able to catch, but he'd be able to play 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS, and he'd actually be worth keeping...and then if he could learn OF, we'd have a guy that could play all 9 positions. Those kind of players come few and far in between. As it is, I see no reason to keep Josh Paul....he's a 3rd string catcher that can't go down to the minors without clearing waivers first.

And then Lou Piniella, who was on the good side of the Cameron fiasco, will then feel what it was like for the White Sox!

how out of shape is colon
He doesn't look like he's in bad shape there....in fact, he looks like the pitcher we all saw last year and in years past. However, you can add a lot of weight in 2 months if all you do is sit around and eat....I'm sure he loses most, if not all the added weight before ST...and then during ST, he will lose even more weight.

Torii Hunter re-signs with Twins
How do you figure that Ichiro is the second best? I believe Maggs is better than him and if I'm thinking right, he in probably younger as well. Maggs is a more patient hitter and he hits for much more power...and this past year, had an average that was actually better than Ichiro's. IMO, Bonds is the best outfielder in the game, with Vlad second and Maggs third.

Sox Fest 2003
Ttwo things I'd like to comment regarding the Mike situation 1) My name's not Mike...then again, my dad's a damn Twins fan and my mom favors no teams at all...so maybe that's a reason why. 2) HSC...did you go with a pattern in naming your kids(as I've taken the hint that your name is Michelle)? Mike starts with 'M' and then has 'i' as the second letter. Some parents do that....like Roger Clemens has 4 kids and I think all their names start with the letter 'K' and I believe Maggs's kids all start with Magg, or atleast they start with 'M' anyways....some parents do that.

Sox Salaries Article
Well once Koch, Gordon, Rios, Buehrle get there money they'll be over last year's budget. Not really...I added numbers I figured they would make this year....I used Koch's arbtration number($5.9 mill), $1 mill for Gordon, $750,000 for Rios and $400,000 for Buehrle....so if the abitrator takes the Sox' arbitration number for Koch($4.25 mill), Gordon makes $750,000, Rios makes $500,000 and Buehrle makes $320,000 or so, that would bring us down to about $5.75 mill or so...I'd expect our budget cuts(if you want to call it that)to fall somewhere in between those two numbers. Maybe JR is hoping this season is successful before he opens the checkbook...taking into consideration how much the All-Star game will bring in along with the fact that more people will show up with a better product on the field...and then maybe our salary 'balloons' to $65 million! Regarding the Carlos debate....I'd agree, if we had a decent backup plan. As of right now, there is no plan B for LF if Carlos were to be traded.

What do you guys think?
Yeah right....he is not a strikeout kind of guy....he will get probably around 3-5 each game he starts....meaning atleast 30 balls will be hit around....how is that going to mix with our defense? If we want to sign a lefty...let it be Chuck Finley. He strikes out a few more hitters a game and is still a decent pitcher...he wouldn't be an innings eater, but we could probably get him for $5 mill or so. I think he's probably going to LA though. I still think we should sign Suppan, Baldwin and Wright....and then we know we have the best rotation we can put out there. And if we need bullpen help, we can keep the best of the 3, or use Munoz/Adkins/Diaz/someone else...maybe a Steve Reed as baggs suggested or maybe Mike Fetters...hell, I'd take Mike Jackson. He'd probably ask for $500,000 or so...I'd take that. And he would help us against the Twins...he knows their pitchers and knows what they throw, and he's a veteran who knows what the hell he's talking about. That'd be my move.

I hope he likes crowds of under 10,000 and a very s***ty team.
